This place caught my attention while watching a couple feature this restaurant on a YouTube short.(DevourpowerTV) The owner Hash is such an Awesome gentleman, he was very patient in explaining all the differences and nuances between the kababs. We had a delightful culinary afghan experience that offered a rich tapestry of spices, flavors and textures. One standout dish is the mantoo dumplings, filled with seasoned chicken meat and topped with a savory garlic white yogurt and a tomato-based sauce with chick peas. We ordered the chicken and beef kofta platters and the 3 chapli platter. The food has a mix of savory and mild spices making it a perfect dish for all palate types. Hash said If you want it spicy they definitely can light your taste buds on fire. They have a private lot so parking is not an issue. There is no server to take your order. Just place your order at the counter and find a table, they will bring it over. When you're finished, clean up after yourself and throw out your trash in the designated area. NOTE: There is a 20% service charge added to your bill when dining in with a party of 3 or more people. It's posted on the front cover of the menu. I know times are tough, but a little steep when there really is not a server taking care of you as we know it. It's definitely worth the hype and the price. I'm looking forward to return real soon.

Delicious Afghani food with yummy kebabs and aromatic rice, I definitely cannot wait to come back and try everything else on the menu. This is a good substitute to Persian food or anything Middle Eastern that you're craving.

Was doing a pickup around the corner and after the truck was loaded, decided to get some lunch... had never been to much of Long Island and had no idea there was such a big south Asian population! There was a ton of options but o chose Kandahar grill. Never had afghan food so I figured I'd give it a try. Was pleasantly surprised... the kofta was spiced perfectly and chicken was equally delicious! Definitely making this place a regular stop when I'm in the area!

For dinner with the family I'm going to give this place four stars easily service was good. We got seated. Immediately. Tables were clean so we're the dishes and things we had two appetizers. One was some dumplings with yogurt sauce on top and the other was a pancake of fried pancake with a potato filling they were both excellent & came out quickly And then I had the chicken & beef kofta which came with rice and salad. It was delicious, nicely seasoned and tender. There were 3 side sauces on the table. Servings were more than we could eat so we got the box and took some home. Wait staff was good asked if we wanted sauces to go with our boxes. Definitely going to go back. Seating is comfortable place is clean. You can eat in or take out from the Kandahar Grill you won't miss if you go her

Came here for date night for an early dinner. When we came in around 6p, there was plenty of seating, but within 30 minutes of sitting, the place was packed for dinner. The takeout counter was constantly busy with orders and we quickly found out why! This mom-n-pop Afghani restaurant in Hicksville, seasons and grills their meats to perfection. The bf and I were starving so we ordered the Mixed Kabab Platter which comes with 1 Chicken tikka, 1 Lamb tikka, 1 Chicken Kofta, 1 Beef Kofta and 2 lamb chops over a massive plate of rice. It was plenty for the two of us and even had some left over to go. The servers were very attentive and respectful. So happy we randomly stumbled upon this super local spot while we were running errands out in Long Island. I hope to bring my family here next time!

unassuming afghan food ! looks like a family run business and new ! we came from Queens to try this place while shopping In the area. Very pleased with the quality of food, taste, and prices! had leftovers which was devoured by my kids as soon as they came home. the appetizers..mantoo and Sambosa were perfect fresh and delicious. everything chicken was amazingly marinated and soft. The rice was fragrant and melted in your mouth. absolutely recommend and will be back!

Everything was also packed up and presented so nicely. My mom picked it up and she said that an employee helped and brought everything to her car. She even said the employee kept the meal for 6 and the meal for 4 separate. The cover for the tray with fries was poked with holes so that it wouldn't get soggy. Talk about a simple afterthought! The meals came with with different types of kabobs (2 different chicken ones, and two different beef ones), Chicken Shawarma, Israeli salad, hummus, fries, babaghanoush, two different kinds of rice and pita bread. We also had falafel. Let me tell you....everything was so delicious. I wasn't even hungry after my first plate but I still helped myself to more. Everyone in my family throughly enjoyed. You order on the sidewalk via a kiosk and choose your protein (chicken, beef, or mixed), served as a wrap, sandwich, or in a box. I got the chicken box and of the three available sides (salad, yellow rice, fries) chose the rice and sides. The most delicious garlic cream sauce is drizzled over everything, though you can get extra sauce for $1 if you want more than just a drizzle. You can also get some spicy sauce for the same price, which does not come standard with the box. I didn't try the spicy stuff, but I would next time. The rice and the crunchy, shoestring-style spiced fries were great, but of course the biggest star of the box was the ridiculously tender chicken. It reminded me of halal street meat, but it's maybe even juicier and more succulent. Minor notes: The chicken was slightly, just slightly, over salted. Don't wait too long to eat the fries, which lose their luster pretty fast (as fries tend to do).

My food was ready in less than 10 minutes of ordering it. When I ordered, it wasn't busy. The quality of the meat stood out to me--it tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and overall pretty good for the price point. The fries, however, were forgettable. The portion felt small, though that didn't bother me as much as the flavor. They had a curry-turmeric style seasoning that just didn't land for me. Instead of being crispy, the fries were limp and dry, which took away from the experience. I did not try signature sauce, which costs extra, and even the ketchup didn't add much to the flavor profile.

We had already looked on the menu online and knew what we wanted to order. However, they gave us a pre-fix menu and stated that we could only order from the Mother's Day menu. It was 1 appetizer, 1 entree, soda or tea for $55 per person. If you look at the regular menu prices, this exceeds what it cost for 1 entree and 1 appetizer. We got the cheese rolls, liver, & mixed appetizer which were all shareable portions. After we were done with appetizers, it took over an hour to get our entrees. The waiter checked in and it seemed that he never gave the kitchen our orders or completely forgot about them because the food was luke warm. We got the lamb chops, chicken shish, & branzino. The chicken and tender and juicy. The branzino was light and flaky. Everything was well seasoned and the rice & salad were also tasty. The lamb chops were over cooked and a bit dry. Overall, I would say don't come here on a day you know will be busy. You may not get to order the dishes you want, experience poor service, and deal with an overpriced menu. For $55, they should have included a baklava for dessert or something.

I thought the chicken was seasoned and flavorful. But by far, the best part was the white sauce. I would pair it with the mango lassi and it was such a great explosion of flavors - both savory and sweet. I will say they ask whether you're okay with onions and raisins in your platter. I liked them but I know raisins might not be what most people prefer to add to their rice. Service was fast. You can either order at the front table or at your seat. They got the food in a reasonable amount of time. The place looks small from the outside, but when you walk in, there's a back room worth of 30 people worth of seating. It's extremely cozy inside. There's also a parking lot right next to the restaurant and also across the street. The lot right next door is kinda small though, so you might need to loop around. Parking shouldn't be a problem and you can get a really good stop if you're lucky.

I really enjoyed my meal overall, I would say the apps and mains were both delicious but I would give an edge to the mains. The food: Borani Banjan- This was the highlight app for me with some freshly made Afghai Naan. Man this was so good and a must order. The eggplant was cooked perfectly. Bamia- This was like a stewed Okra and I loved this dish, the okra was cooked down but the flavor was so damn good. Mantu- This was a nice delicate dumpling, it was made well but because of the cumin I couldn't help think it reminded me of Tex Mex food. Aushuk- This was OK, it was kinda strange because there was this fermented flavor to it that kinda bothered me. Chicken Afghani Kabab- I am shocked to say this but the chicken was my favorite protein. It was perfection, it was perfectly juicy with a nice smokey outer char, this was amazing. Uzbeki Qabuli Pulao- This was a braised lamb shank and was no teeth required tender. It so incredibly delicate and so delicious. Salmon- Fat slabs of salmon cooked to perfection with a nice outer smokey char. So good. Lamb Kabab- This was fine but not as exciting as the above. The lamb was chewier than I was hoping but the flavor was nice. Beef Kofta- It was like a ground meat patty. It was ok, it was a bit chewy and a bit dry but it was alright. The two I want to try on my next visit is the shrimp and the lamb chops, can't wait for a second visit.
