This place was cool. I can only speak to the ambiance as we came here on a whim during a bachelorette weekend. We were honestly just looking for a another place to keep the party going. The venue itself was really cool inside and it seemed that the folks there were all on the outside space seemed to really be enjoying their time and experience. The staff seemed cool and personable. Parking was easy enough, but we realize it wasn't crowded like it normally is that night. Food was decent and the hookah was a deal, $10. So here is where I had the issue... there was a service fee of 20% mind you there is 2 of us. We find out that the service fee is for all the staff and the waitress gets the remainder. Now what a min. I am not opposed to getting a cut but she gets the remainder?, leaving the customer to tip/service fee 30% to 40% that is crazy to me. That alone would deter me from going again. I was so excited to finally visit this place after seeing the long queues every time I passed by. I made a reservation right when they opened and got a spot in the empty parking lot with no extra charge. I decided to try the wings, which are my favorite thing to order at any restaurant. They were amazing! Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and full of flavor. The vibe here is awesome at night, with music, sparklers, and a lot of fun. Dope spot to visit if you're in Houston. We visited for brunch and it gave day party vibes. Service was super slow and they were out of most menu items, but maybe that was because of the time of day (a Sunday afternoon). My order was good but I don't have to order it again; there was hardly any crab meat in it. Wow! So I'm going to jump right in here! The midday line here on a Friday was insane (and could have totally been better managed), but we waited and I'm glad we did. Our server, Rebecca, was really kind and attentive (but appeared to be overwhelmed with the amount of tables). Now onto the food! My loaded mac and cheese with brisket was so sad. The brisket was more of the consistency of a well done, cubed steak with fatty pieces intermingled (hard eye roll), and the macaroni and cheese had a velvetta meets Kraft singles vibe that I didn't enjoy. But moving swiftly along, I would do just about anything for the hubs' 3-meat, loaded baked potato. That thing was divine. I nibble on his and got mad. Headed here for brunch with my wife and enjoyed the experience for the most part. Our waiter Desira was helpful, friendly, and attentive. Making sure we had our food and drinks even when the place was packed and crowded. DJ started off slow but got better as the day went on. Believe most people needed to eat before getting too lit. Food was good as well! Brisket was a bit salty but overall tasted good. Just be mindful to order your food sooner than later as the kitchen will get backed up. Definitely suggest making reservations. Even for just two people. Or else you'll be waiting in that line for a good minute. If you're getting section, make sure it's big enough. Noticed a group book a small spot and had too many people so some had to sit inside. Also paying $20 for valet just to park my own car is stupid...make it make sense. ‍ Also be mindful that some guest bring their kids. Like high schoolers to babies. Man....LISTEN! Kamp was an entire vibe. I'm from Maryland and we don't have many places like this, but I definitely wished me did! Nothing but good old-fashioned SAFE, drama and violence-free fun. What more can you ask for. When we pulled into the parking lot of Kamp, there was a line of cars and a line to get into the venue. We valeted our rental and stood in the line for a good hour and a half. While in line, the lady standing at the front desk came to us and offered us an outside table. There was a minimum price for the table, but unlike other venues, that price included our food and drinks and as long as we met the minimum, we were good. It was four people in our party, so we decided to order the large drink pictured.....the name of the drink escapes me. We also had a few other drinks on top of the one pictured. Let's just say, we were lit leaving Kamp. The drinks were reasonably priced and strong. The food was absolutely AMAZING!! Literally everything we had was so good. Everything was seasoned well, fresh and very filling. Unfortunately, there were a few items that they didn't have, such as crawfish and oxtails, but that's just gives us a reason to come back to Kamp during our next trip to Houston. I don't even know where to start with how awful my experience at Kamp was. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that customer service was NOT a priority. The staff seemed completely uninterested in helping anyone, and it took forever just to get acknowledged, let alone seated. The wait time for food and drinks was ridiculous, and when they finally arrived, they were either cold, wrong, or both. The drinks were overpriced and weak, and the food tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. To top it off, the music was so loud that it was impossible to have a conversation, but I guess that's one way to distract from the terrible service. I've been to plenty of spots in Houston, and this is easily one of the worst. If you enjoy being ignored, overpaying for mediocre food, and leaving with a headache, then by all means, give Kamp a try. This establishment is a very popular young black people hangout spot/day party on weekends. I dined during Houston's Restaurant Week for brunch. The music is a good mix of old and new school and not too loud. Everyone is dressed like they're going to a party so keep that in mind if you want to blend in. Now to the food ... what I had wasn't worth the hype. Hearing grits, oxtails and seafood makes me excited but I was quickly disappointed. There was 1 actual lump of crab meat and the sweet potatoes were from the frozen bag. I tasted no cheese in the cheese grits, my 1 oxtail (in the menu it's plural) had the same fat & meat ratio. Thursday nights at Kamp have me in a chokehold!!! 50 cent wings and $5 drinks ??? What more could you ask for ? I ordered the Hot Honey Wings with a side of Fries. The Hot Honey Wings were 10/10. I dream about them . The Fries were 10/10. Well seasoned!!! I've also tried the Hot Lemon Pepper they were a 8.5/10 but a nice take on the lemon pepper considering that's not a favorite flavor of mine. I also tried the loaded baked potato with brisket. I'd rate it a 7/10, good! But nothing spectacular. Kamp is a great place to hangout with friends. Great music, good food, and just overall VIBES! I came here recently on a trip to Houston with a party of 16. We had to get two separate sections-- They initially told us we only had one section -- 1 section for 16 people..there's literally no way 16 ppl can sit in one section and eat and drink. It's.a "lit brunch" kind of atmosphere. Your not sitting down too long but to eat. However we had to pay a deposit for our section(s). We ended up being accommodated into two sections next to each other. They split the money we used to hold the table in half and it went towards our purchases- food alcohol etc. (NOT HOOKAH) Disclaimers; ***Houston heat is not that of Atlanta - drink water !!! We were doing just fine until the moment it was time to leave, we stood up for one last twerk it out; and that heat BEAT OUR ASS**** They had a special for a bottle of champagne for $35 so we got either 5 or 7 bottles or each table. It comes with carafes of juice. The DJ was lit ! He had an awesome variety of artist- genres and combination of 80s 90s early 2000's and current. Service was good as well. We ordered and got our food right away. I WISH i was able to taste their other menu-- the brunch menu was okay... but not my favorite - i wasn't too excited about the variety of options either. Me being the food connoisseur i am tasted everyone's food - i had the crab cake BLT extra sauce on the side and a smoked sausage - IT HIT Catfish and grits-- I don't care for my food to touch but the fish was seasoned well. The oxtails which I couldn't get a picture of were big and tender. -- They let us use one card for each table ; or they split the tab evenly ( no itemizing ) 6 ways per table. we chose to use one card each table. They automatically add gratuity-- i always advise to tip your server (with the amount of money we spent the gratuity definitely sufficed) Next time i visit i'll be back strictly for the other menu options LOL. The lunch/dinner menu holds way more options and a lot of seafood Overall i would definitely visit again. So myself and a large group (11 total) came to Kamp on Saturday for their day party. We had a section which was booked in advance. This was secured with a $250 deposit. We were told that we have to spend a minimum of $500 during our time (5-9pm) and the $250 would be deducted from that. We weren't told about the gratuity (20%) but it was to be expected and it was $9.10 per person. Their bottle prices were extremely expensive. And wouldn't have lasted for our group thus we were glad the money could be spent on food and bar drinks. Cons: - Their bathroom could've been cleaner. I had to press the toilet I wanted to use with my foot 5 times just to get it to flush - They were out of almost every frozen drink we wanted to order or were considering ordering (so instead I got tequila lemonades & a shot) - My wings were supposed to be whole wings but they were wingettes instead but I do believe the amount equaled out (I'm assuming this was due to the chicken wing shortage) Pros: - I loved that we had the option of the outdoor section because the weather was perfect. And we didn't have to worry about being on top of people inside - The wings I had and the fries were so good. I don't think anyone complained about their food. Came to kamp during my birthday weekend since it was highly recommended. The parking lot was packed at 4pm but we were able to park with away. We got the wings, and the boudin balls. The wings weren't good at all but the boudin was. The drinks weren't anything to rave about. I think people really go for the atmosphere. The music, open space, vibe and freedom. She was very pleasant and helpful with the menu when she did come to the table. The hubby and I were disappointed in the food. As you can see the crab cake was a bland as it looks, the green beans had a strange taste and the blackened catfish needed some additional blackening. First of all this must have been the place to be on the night we went! The line of cars waiting to find a parking place was ridiculously long. This is a cute spot for grownup drinks and food. What a fun idea...the whole camp thing was fun and cute. I ordered the lemon pepper wings and a plate of oysters and both were tasty and so was my margarita! The DJ was fun and kept the place lively. The negatives...not enough parking to accommodate the number of patrons visiting. Not enough outside seating. Came here on a Sunday and no one told me Houston treats a Sunday brunch like a Friday night! It was so fun and the music was loud. It was a club like atmosphere and there was an indoor part which you could drink and have some food. We sat inside for an hour and then made our way outside because it looked like everyone was having a great time. I sat down in an area and was told if I wanted to sit down in that area I would have to pay $200. There was no place else to sit so I declined the seat. It was very fun and lively but I truly felt like the staff wasn't nice or professional. I understand that it was busy but they were quick to dismiss us once we stated we didn't want to spend money inside to sit down to have our drinks and then the $200 price to even sit outside was a bit ridiculous. read more
