The first thing you notice walking in - is the super cool, close-to-life size Silver Surfer! I need one of those in my house! Tons of comics, a small amount of Dungeons & Dragons books, and some Funko Pops and other figurines. I bought an Avengers comic collection. If you want books of comics from retro eras, you'll want to go here. They also have lots of games, as well as related merchandise. Prices are competitive. Great staff works here. All of their employees have been friendly and helpful. This is definitely something different, and I appreciate this. A fun place at University Mall. As others have noted - this is a pretty small store. It might be the smallest comic book store I've seen in the area. But - small is not necessarily a negative. They have a good selection of comics. They also have a small selection of D&D books and dice. I was just browsing and didn't have any questions or requests from the staff, but based on interactions with others, they know their stuff. This is not a surface-level, small store where they display a tiny collection. They have almost everything. I think that's the most important thing you need to know about this place. I did notice the retro consoles and games like the SNES are priced quite steeply here. They are rare to come by in Northern Virginia, so I'd expect that.

Their margins must be tight, as they open at 10 AM on Wednesday, and some titles are sold out by 11:30. So, they appear to be under ordering, so as not to have to potentially sit on stock. Not too long ago, they changed their policy where they wouldn't be ordering variant covers unless you specifically pre-ordered them. Sure, that's their prerogative, but many variants are open-order, not requiring any minimums on the part of the retailer, so it just seems...odd. The service...This is my biggest gripe. Often, I've gone into the store to find the cashier talking to a friend/acquaintance. A customer might want assistance, and the cashier is visibly annoyed that he has to stop his conversation to provide customer service. Then, once the customer checked out and left, the cashier would turn to his friend and say something like "That's the guy I was telling you about", with a laugh. So, they seem to joke about their customers - the people keeping them in business - and it just feels unprofessional. I've worked retail, so I get it, but those aren't conversations to gold loudly, as other customers are in the store. I mean, what are they saying about ME when I leave? This has happened more than once, while some of the other loud topics of discussion aren't always appropriate for "polite company". The most friendly employee, sadly, passed away recently, so we're left with the ones talking behind our backs.

Despite a huge sign proclaiming they sell Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Pokemon, they did not have anything substantial to offer and from the look of their old product, they don't carry much at all. Didn't feel like I was valued or helped much. The stairway leading up to it was filthy. COST: Average. Not inflated but not inexpensive either. No real bargains.

The shop was well organized and had so much more than just comics -- from building models to artwork by local artists. It also feels like a real community space, hosting events and meetups on different nights, which makes it even more special. My child absolutely fell in love with this place, and honestly, so did I.
