It has been more than 15-years since my last visit to Arizona. While planing my trip, I was on the hunt for a stylist that would be able to handle thick Polynesian hair. After searching Instagram and Yelp for stylists in the Phoenix area, I stumbled upon Kami Sori salon's page. The name that was mentioned most was, Roger Montoya. It was then that I was able to research more about Roger and learn that he's experienced in styling ethnic hair. As soon as I booked Roger, in less than 24-hours my appointment was accepted and i was booked for Wednesday, November 6th, 2019 at 3pm. I had explained the type of hair I had, and he was willing to take on the challenge. I was excited and couldn't wait to see Roger. Upon arrival to Kami Sori, I was stoked and arrived at approximately 2:40pm, 20-minutes early. There was a stylist with a cheetah print apron sitting on the couch across from me swiping away at her phone, and she did not address when my husband and I entered their establishment. After waiting for about 15-minutes, I assumed there'd be a receptionist to check me in. I peeked around the corner a few times and an elder gentleman/stylist (Mr. iPad) saw me, but continued to play on his iPad--totally ignoring my presence. My husband filmed the whole ordeal after he noticed the lack of customer service. After a 20-minute wait, I was a little apprehensive about staying for my appointment and was ready to walk out. My family own hair and tanning salons in the Seattle area; we would not have allowed this type of behavior to happen, especially when consumer loyalty is what has kept us in business for more than 20 years. My husband and I then figured the stylists must work independently and only lease chairs--especially since customer service and protecting the Kami Sori reputation and name was obviously not a priority to some. Despite my apprehension, I peeked one last time around the corner and interrupted Mr. iPad and asked for Roger. I was so ready to cancel, but once Roger greeted me with his sweet personality and beautiful smile, I was willing to give it a try. I was so glad I did, because my visit with Roger was one to remember. Roger is hilarious and made me so comfy I forgot I was at a hair appointment. Once he poured me a glass of vino, it helped me forget what had occurred 20 minutes prior. I currently live more than 5,000 miles away from Arizona and am willing to fly in to Arizona just to see Roger. I get my hair colored every few months and have never laughed so much at any of my hair appointments. Roger is a breath of fresh air, and worked really fast. Another client of Roger's showed up while I was still in Roger's chair, so he had Liz help with blowdrying and straightening my hair. Let me tell you, Liz is super sweet and definitely knows how to handle ethnic hair. She moved to AZ from the east coast and the way she dried and flat ironed my hair was as if I went to a ethnic salon to get a press and curl. Liz even used her Dyson hairdryer on my hair, which I later purchased thanks to her recommendation. Thank you, Liz. If Roger is unavailable, I will definitely be seeking your services. :-) After my initial appointment with Roger, the color was a little darker than what I was used to. I exchanged a few texts with Roger, and he told me to come in at 11am on Saturday, November 9th to do what it takes to get my hair to what I would like, since I was leaving the country again on Monday, Nov. 11th. Saturday morning, I walked into the salon, and once again, Mr. iPad was still swiping away at his iPad and just looked up, saw me, then continued with his iPad without addressing me. Not even a minute after I walked in, a caucasian girl walks in, and Mr. iPad greets her with a smile and asks who she was there to see, then tells her to wait in the lobby for her stylist. Instead of having to interrupt Mr. iPad's time on his device, I texted Roger to let him know I was in the waiting area. Like the first visit, my time with Roger was amazing and so much fun. He is so knowledgable in so many things about life, our conversations are never boring. Roger balayaged a few highlights to frame my face, which I love and once the regrowth is in need for a touch up, I am planning my next trip to Arizona. For those of you reading, my 5-star review is for Roger and Liz, as they are two perfect reasons to visit Kami Sori. During my initial appointment with Mia, we had some miscommunication issues but long story short: Bc I had clip-in extensions in for the finished look, I wasn't sure what my actual hair looked like until later. When I realized I wasn't happy with the result, I reached out, and the salon was kind and understanding over text, quickly scheduling a follow-up. Unfortunately, the second appointment was very different. Mia seemed frustrated to see me, and her manner felt dismissive and harsh. As she began to go over what we planned last visit, she aggressively clapped her hands at each point she made. During the wash, the water was cold and splashing, my fragile hair was handled roughly, and the blow dryer was held on one spot to the point of discomfort. I did not speak up, I have anxiety and just wanted to get it done and leave. The front desk interaction also felt unprofessional, with eye-rolling and giggling comments on how I expressed concern about the color. I don't believe Mia is bad at hair -- my first appointment showed she has skill, but the way I was treated during the follow-up left me shocked and anxious. I'm sharing this so others are aware of the service experience I had, and I hope the salon takes this feedback seriously to ensure clients feel respected and cared for. read more

I am not the kinda woman that loves the hair salon, coloring my hair or anything of the sort...Roger changed my mind forever. He is an incredible hair stylist and works magic with color. I had a 'friend' color my hair, and it turned a horrible shade of orange on my dark brunette hair...I was in tears requesting an appointment, and he squeezed me in ASAP to fix my color. He turned a disaster into a beautiful pink/fuchsia that I love. If you want a stylist you'll have forever, he's the one- honest, talented, engaging, and genuine. So happy I found him!! I have waited a few days to write this review until the shock wore off. After a lot of research and reviews I chose Roger Montoya and was excited about the potential of someone who could deal with long curly hair. His reviews are amazing.... After many days of living with it, friends and family commenting, some crying and a little depression about my hair I have decided to write this review even though I don't want to hurt Roger. But I feel like as a well paid professional he should be doing a much better job than this. Franky, this is the worst haircut I've ever received in my entire life. He thinned my hair so much that I have nothing left. After 15 years of growing it out it looks stringy and thin and I am devastated. He chopped up my bangs and I had to come home and attempt to straighten them. I will have to wear a headband for a few months until my bangs grow out. I reached out to Kami Sori as a recommendation from my girlfriend, and I'm so glad I did. You get to choose your stylist based on what you want done, and I did some thorough research that led me to Jessica Shroeder. I have very strong grey hairs that grow way too fast and are a constant bother. My hair is also extremely thick, and not made for this Arizona heat. Naturally, I wanted a dye and a cut and Jessica is now my go-to. She's super friendly, patient and really cares about delivering the look you are going for within what's right for your type of hair. I went on a hunt for a single grey hair after my first time seeing her and couldn't find one. I also got compliments on my hair cut, a month after she did it. My hair has never looked better. Have been searching for a new salon since my old stylist moved away. Kami Sori was a great find! My new stylist Stephanie took great care of me. The salon is in a trendy revamped industrial building with a cool restaurant and vintage furniture store (separate) downstairs from the salon. They are building a "mom and pop" coffee shop in the building too. Kami Sori Salon in itself is designed well and fits right into the entire buildings hipster vibe. Most importantly my stylist Stephanie knew what she was doing. She's probably the best stylist I've come across in the valley and my hair is not easy to do! I came to Kami Sori because I followed Roger Montoya here. (I would literally follow him to Siberia to do my hair!) He's so exceptional at what he does and definitely a color genius! Holy-schmoly I struck gold when I decided to have my hair done while in town for business! This is a really cool salon with a great vibe and talented hair stylists. I saw Carley, who is amazing! She listened while I explained how my hair had gone from over-highlighted to over-lowlit (is that a word?) and was now a tragic brown/orange. We talked about the different options and I decided on a Blonde balayage. Again, she was amazing. I have a lot of hair, and Carley took the time necessary to really address my problem and the result is beautiful! Haha, no, from what I have heard and seen everyone she works with (Eric, Emily B, Roxanne) at Kami Sori is really great as well. I've only gotten the opportunity to have her do my hair and stuck with her. From day 1, she's been so accommodating and I've never been disappointed with my hair (and I'm extremely picky, even though I don't even know what I want most of the time. I know it doesn't make sense). I've went from teal to blue to cool blondes and have received so many compliments. Keep in mind that I have the darkest of dark black hair. She is so skilled at what she does, it's truly an art. I have been in to Kami Sori a few times now over the past year and a half, initially to see Jessica for a color correction and she is now my go-to for cut and color. The salon is nice and centrally located, easy to get to, but for me it's all about that one person! Jessica is very talented and I have let her try something a little different each time and I'm never disappointed. I like to change it up a little bit with color but all within the natural looking range and she is great with color. She is also easy to talk to and wants your honesty. Okay where do I start ? 2 words: Ali Galvez I live in Orange County, Ca but visit my family in Phoenix often. I am on a flight as I'm typing this. I'm heading to London for a 11-13 hours work day so let's see how this hair style fares on this flight. It's been 4 years this month that I've been going to Ali (and hopefully many more years to come!) I used to see her at a salon in Ahwatukee but followed her to Kami Sori when she made the move. Kami Sori is in a really trendy area with a bunch of new restaurants and places to hang out. Love the area. Ali has always been attentive and professional- definitely not pushy with style and color choices like other stylists can be. She does an amazing job of getting to know you and getting a feel for what you really want. She is excellent at what she does and always has great style advice and seems to be up to date on all things hair-related. I really can't say it enough. I found this salon on Yelp when I spontaneously decided I wanted to chop off most of my hair. On a whim, I scheduled a same day appointment with Stephanie Raskin and it was one of the best spontaneous decisions ever! I have always had really long hair but I decided I was going to go short so that I could donate my hair to an organization that makes wigs for children. I explained this to Stephanie and she was very receptive to my idea and how I wanted my short hair to look after she cut off the hair that I would be donating. I was extremely nervous at first but her light-heartedness and confidence put me at ease. I absolutely love the work she did for my hair and she even taught me how to curl my hair on my own so I could replicate the look at home. After my go-to hair dresser moved across the valley to a much higher priced salon, it took me over 6 months to find a new salon! I hopped on Yelp (of course) to find a salon that can accommodate to my picky needs. Kami Sori salon was close to my home, had great reviews, and quality work to look at. I came in to see Jessica for a hair cut and color. My hair was seriously botched up from all the times I had try to do it on my own. Jessica assured me it's not going to be a big deal and not as bad as I thought it would be. The overall process took about 3 hours and was roughly $200 for 2 bowls of color, a toner, and a haircut, and a tip. Jessica took her time to hear my needs and offer suggestions. While she did offer product suggestions, she was never too pushy about making purchases. The salon was beautiful and clean. It's up on the second floor of a mini strip mall. There wasn't much parking spots but I was able to park on the property for free. This definitely won't be my last time at this salon! read more

Love, love, love my cut and color by Dario!! This is the 2nd time I've seen Dario and certainly won't be my last!! My first cut and color lasted FOREVER - great as a working mom that barely has time to sleep! This last time, Dario did a great job blending low lights and highlights back in to provide some very modern, but natural contrast. We did a paint/balayage effect for more natural roots that will be easy to maintain. He added back in some layers to bring back some volume and life and also advised me on the best way to style when wearing straight or naturally wavy. I've always struggled with my waves, but the cut gave new bounce to them without sacrificing the length of my hair. Just stopped in to get a hair cut after doing a quick search on Yelp. As I entered I was greeted by not just one person, but four lovely ladies (Roxanne, Emily Claire, Emily and Jordana). Let me just say this made a gentleman feel special. The decor is ultra modern (which I totally love), well kept and has probably the most comfortable seats I've had the pleasure of being styled in. The clientele I noticed is really diverse and family oriented having noticed mothers getting styled along with their adorable well mannered children whom were also being styled probably for there upcoming summer vacations. Before I digress... Too late! I saw Eric Tuvale who took me as a walk-in right after styling a young women. I can't say anything but brilliant comments. He styled me up with a fashionable side part pompadour (that's what he called it - I call it a hybrid John F. Kennedy) and I feel and look like a million bucks. If I didn't know any better I'd name Eric as the best men's hair stylist in Phoenix. However I can also comment that the girl he styled before me walked out of the salon glowing and radiant - so I must note he is versatile. Cheers to you guys! Jessica is amazing! I went in with a terrible hair color from trying to do it myself. It was brassy and patchy. (Bad decision, I know) but she was able to work with I had and make it look beautiful. I came here for a color correction with Jessica S and I'm so happy with how it came out! After a couple bad color outcomes at other salons--first way too dark, then way too light and streaky--I had all but given up on achieving a natural looking color again. After reading all the good reviews, I decided to come here and give coloring it one more try. In one quick appointment, Jessica was able to correct my streaky blonde/orangey highlights and give me the balayage look I had originally wanted.
