Few things smell as good as bread baking in the morning. That's why neighborhood bakeries are always a pleasure to walk by. Having a Pan de Sal monster ( she can eat about 6 in a row) for a daughter keeps me on the look out for good ones, and this morning, I saw a new Kambal Pandesal outlet near our place. It had that neighborhood bakery smell -- but I know it's a chain, as these things have been everywhere lately. Anyway, i walked in and saw the rows of freshly baked bread on the shelves -- plain, with cheese, with sweet coconut, and so on. I went for the plain ones and got a couple of cheese ones and brought them home. They were soft and warm -- just the right balance between fluffy and dense, which i like. Well, it passed the Pan de Sal monster test! She loved it! The cheese ones were all right, there was a very thin slice of processed cheddar in each one, but at least the bread was good so i'm complaining. Try their stuff out next time you spot one in your neighborhood. read more
