I came here one time when I was vacationing in Manila. My family went to visit relatives and I was left alone to my devices...so I decided to walk around the Town Center. And along the way, I found this little spot with a name that reminded me of someone I'd rather forget! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! In spite of that, I decided to go in and try the place. And I was not disappointed! The service is great and fast. And the staff are quite well versed with the menu. I was still a little full from breakfast at home, so I decided to have something light...grilled cheese rolls and a hot chocolate. And they were superb! And priced within anyone's reach! Sweet Bella, as you could probably guess from the name, is known for its sweets and desserts. Their…read morespecialties are macarons and cakes of different flavors. They don't want to be pigeonholed as just a dessert place however, so they recently had a marketing thrust focusing on their more savory concoctions. Their beef salpicao covered in garlic is really good. The beef is nicely cooked and the oil is just right. They are proud of their truffle pasta, whose aroma alone is enough to make you turn your head and take notice. What I don't like about Sweet Bella is that their furniture is kind of dated. I know that furniture is expensive and you can't replace it on a whim, but all it takes is one quick look to see that the chairs and tables are old, with some even peeling. A little diligence regarding this would be better in my book.

You can get your cakes or gelato right after your tasty pasta treat! Talk about heaven. I was on a very special date when I went here the first time. My boyfriend introduced me to his family. Okay, enough about me. TMI. Now, if you haven't been here (and if there's a branch near you) I suggest you go ahead and try their gelato and cakes. Of course there are a lot of bakeries selling awesome cakes, but Cara Mia's is something else. I suggest you try their Sea Salted Caramel Crunch, it's made of light chiffon, mocha and some caramel crunch on top. It only costs Php 95 for a slice, and a whole cake costs Php 695. Not bad eh?

Tous Les Jours is definitely one of my favorite bakeries. Not only is it cheap, but it also provides good-tasting products that you won't find anywhere else in the market. I am totally in love with their Macarons. You can buy a piece for only 28 pesos. It has a crunchy exterior, but the filling is light, soft, and chewy. They have five different flavors, which are chocolate, vanilla, mango, strawberry, and even green tea (I have yet to taste a green-tea flavored macaron). They also sell my favorite soda, which is Lotte Chilsung Cider. It is a carbonated lemon-lime soft drink that tastes just like Sprite, but so much better. I can't explain its taste; you just have to try it for yourself. Whenever I need to buy cakes for a special occasion, this is also one of my go-to places. You should definitely check this out!

Given the humongous number of bakeries out there that make this stuff it's kinda hard to find someone with an ensaymada that stands out from the crowd. There's this one particular ensaymada though that does and deserves special mention. It's really good so it Must be Mom's. I stumbled upon this place when I was near broke and found myself only capable of buying a piece of ensaymada from their stall. I did not regret that purchase. Their ensaymada is so soft that if my teeth were conscious they would've fallen asleep from the softness. It's just a normal ensaymada done really well. It's soft and has a tremendous amount of flavor. Try it for yourself so you get what I mean.

It's still very relatable, humble even. I love that the prices haven't been erratically affected by inflation, nor did it stop the owner from decreasing the quality of its pastries. Anyone who lives in the area I'm sure has bought one of their cakes at least once. My favorite here is the Aggy's Choco Moist Caramel cake. It's best for days when you want to fill your belly with chocolate and get slightly buzzed from all the sugar. They have great customized cakes too, perfect for birthday parties and other occasions. Come in the morning so you can get everything new and freshly-baked!

Aggy's Marshmallow Brownie has been a favorite dessert ever since my early childhood. The combo of…read morechewy marshmallow top and fudge-y chocolate brownie was love at first bite, so receiving one would always be a treat. And when my sister and I were still young enough for kiddie birthday parties, our cakes would come from here and the decorations would always make us and our friends go "WOOOOW". Now my little brother gets to enjoy that as well. Amazing how this tiny cake shop can produce such good pastries, and with incredible consistency over the years that the people of the south have come to rely on.
