The owner welcomed us and told us that he would let us have access to the specials even though they are restricted to specific days of the week. My crony took advantage of this. Only that it was all a lie. He charged us full price for it. However, he did give us a free baklava. It still sucked that he flat out lied to us though. Had a wonderful experience at this mediterranean hidden gem in Tempe! Kalos is a build your own mediterranean grill offering build your own bowls, wraps, and plates. All of the food is super authentic and the spot is owned by an immigrant family. The service was wonderful, they were very passionate about their food and it showed! Everyone was so friendly. Perfect spot to grab a quick easy, reasonably priced, authentic mediterranean meal! Inside is very casual. I built my own bowl with beef shawarma and the shawarma was perfectly cooked and seasoned. This meat was recommended to me and I see why! I also tried the sampler platter with all of their goodness piled into a massive tray. I'm a fan of this fast casual establishment. I didn't really know this complex existed but on my way to try Dirty Dough next door, I saw this place and decided to give it a try since I needed to find something for lunch (although some would argue that eating cookies is lunch itself). Kalos Grill had a promotion on the window with for lunch specials for $6. While they had several appealing options on their menu, I opted for a gyro pita. If the gyro is good, you know the place is good, am I right?! I appreciated the fact that we could see our order being made and the transparency of their ingredients and the assembling of my order. The owner came walked in the middle of my experience at this establishment and he was so nice. He greeted me, made sure I was taken care of and ensured that I was being charged the right amount for my order. I was accidentally overcharged but he made sure I got the difference back. He also said bye on my way out. That interaction alone made me like the place without even taking a bite of the pita. The gyro pita was fabulous and I'm not just saying that because Kalos had great customer service. The gyro was tasty and they gave me a hefty amount of meat. It was flavorful and I liked the additional veggies to really balance out the sandwich. The pita texture was great and it had a great bread to filling ratio. The gyro was filling and I didn't feel hungry until hours later. I've written before about small family run businesses. But some don't live up to their hype, Kalos Grill on the other hand is exceptional. My coworker Cam and I were headed next door for the Tuesday Chicken special, but stopped here instead. Both of us are glad we did. First, a word about the owner, Peter. He is an amazing ambassador for his business. As we walked in, he greeted us warmly and asked if this was our first visit. Since it was, he brought over samples of Steak, saffron flavored rice and chicken. He's incredible fun guy who came to The Valley to attend GCU. He kept coming over offering us other food items to enjoy. Wow! Suffice it to say our meal was incredible. I ordered a Gyro ($6.95) and Cam the Steak. He skipped his Keto fast to order the steak after trying it. Yes, it was that good! See photos. My order was less than $9, including a soda. Great new place. RIP FlameBroiler! I eat as close to whole food plant based as I can so this place really met my needs. I'm glad I used Yelp to find my way to their counter. My Rice bowl with veggies and hummus was delicious. This review is based on an Ubereats delivery. I ordered the meat shawarma but I think I actually got the filet mignon as it was all beef and so tender. Hubby had the gyros plate and reluctantly shared with me! The gyro meat is very not dry and very flavorful. The saffron rice was well seasoned an perfect texture. However, the vegetables was just reheated frozen vegetables with a dab of butter and salt. The cilantro jalapeño hummus was very flavorful, much better than the roasted pepper hummus. We got a deal where we got a free order of hummus if we spend over $20. So we got the plain hummus and it was decent. A bit lighter on garlic and tahini, may have been slightly watered down. The pita was probably just store bought, nothing to rave about but came warm, wrapped in tin foil. Overall, great solid food. I will definitely order from Kalos again! read more

After telling James, the owner, about the hard and dry Al Pastor I wrote about in my first 3 star review on 12/17/20, he said he removed Al Pastor right away from his menu, because he found his employees (like college age kids) did not take the care to grill the expensive cuts of pork that he chooses to purchase, so that it isn't overcooked. Indeed Al Pastor is no longer on the backlit menu board. Kalos Grill has the best gyros I ever had in my life! I found other restaurants' gyros, like Green Corner in Mesa, was always dried out, because the restaurant keeps it on the heat source turning and turning while all the juices drip out and moisture in the meat dissipates. Well smart James puts small amounts of freshly shaved gyros in a covered steamer, so the meat stays moist, soft, and hot. When supply gets low, he shaves more, so the steam doesn't blanch out the flavor. James told me he buys the best quality gyros he can get. Then the freshly made jalapeno and cilantro hummus is so addictive, I could eat a whole big bowl with a spoon in no time, like you would eat a bowl oatmeal. But it is expensive for a small container. Everything tastes so good. Salad is so fresh, the dressing is sooooo "homemade". You can taste the fresh herbs in the salad. I had chicken wings here, too, pretty good. They let me pick only the flats and fry to order for me. I eat here with a Local Flavor 50% off voucher that I buy when LF has 25% off sales and I usually order the same thing: One pound of gyros for $15, and $5 worth of the jalapeno and cilantro hummus. I have a class in the industrial area near Kalos Grill every Monday at 7 pm, so I come here to eat, before I go to class. James had to cut back on his hours because all the thousands of workers in this industrial area, now work from home. I saw James turn away people who arrived at 6:30 on Monday (I only come Mondays due to my class nearby). Before Covid, James said seven employees at the counter could not keep up with the business, and they worked sooo hard! Now it's like I am the only one there at 6 pm Monday nights. James is good to me, treats me like family! I don't have any family. So I hope you go eat here often, and support this business. Yum ! I really enjoyed my Philly Cheesesteak Pita and my girlfriend went for the Gyro Fries which were BOMB.COM (sauces also) Service was something to be questioned on the day I was in though. Masks were present, but workers did not wear gloves behind the counter and beyond into the kitchen (yikes). In addition to this we had to repeat our order 4 separate times (twice after paying), field inhospitable service staff, and ultimately missing a few extra sauces we asked for in the order. Oh man really good, fresh food for the prices. What a value! I came by to try one of their happy hour rice bowls for only $5. I got the falafel bowl and it was fantastic, and a steal at the price paid. Quality healthy fresh made REAL food at that price is honestly super rare. Even crappy fast food is way more expensive than that these days. The falafel was crisp yet really moist and perfectly fried/cooked. Veggies tasted fresh and rice was really good. I wish I could put a zero star for the absolute disgusting costumer service that my husband and I got this morning from the miserable old lady behind the counter. We ordered breakfast sandwiches and the way she was training the young girl was my first red flag with how reckless her attitude was to her own fellow employee. Nevertheless, we get our breakfast sandwiches and I go to pay and still go to give a tip (preferably for the new girl not the other nasty employee). I accidentally hit the zeros too much and charged a 20$ tip instead of a 2$ tip. I told the lady and asked her to cancel that and refund me so I can tip them the correct amount. She began to argue with my husband and I that she cannot do that because it's already been processed. We informed her kindly that she could, to which she scoffed and then canceled it within 30 seconds of actually trying. Then proceeded to tell us "you need to pay attention next time I can't keep doing this for you." Interesting, because this was my first and absolute last time in that establishment. I really hate leaving bad reviews for small businesses, but I want to be honest. I rely heavily on Yelp reviews and I want to point out a couple of things for this place that other patrons should consider. The veggies for the rice bowls are no doubt in my mind from frozen bag from Costco. How do I know? I hate carrots and I see the culprits in my bowl, and Costco bag makes it extra disgusting for me by adding yellow ones (imposter of imposters). Anyway, my problem with this are as follows: -Broccoli, cauliflower and carrots are cheapest produce to buy and quickest to prepare -If this business is choosing cost and convenience factors for such insignificant things such as veggies, where else are they cutting corners? Growing up in New York City, I'm so blessed and grateful to have been exposed to a plethora of cuisine from different cultures (not to mention thanks to my own pro chef for a Grandma) which led me to develop an early affinity for GYROs! I'd pass a tiny corner restaurant no bigger than some people's walk-in closets, but there it was front and center, this juicy rotating hunk of lamb, sweating flavor down every side, ready to slice and load into a fluffy pita blanket. The classic is always adorned with lettuce, red onion, tomato and that absolutely perfect accompaniment of creamy tzatziki that adds even more flavor and freshness to the rich, slightly gamey flavor of the lamb. I just finished my 6th annual flight attendant training and was lucky enough to hit it off with a fellow fa I'd never met, and she invited me to lunch so we got to escape the boring lunch truck that usually comes to our center. As soon as I saw the amazing photos and prices for everything from falafel to hummus and gyros I knew I wanted that tried and true memory of all the classic gyros I'd enjoyed before... and Kalos did not disappoint! The friendliest service and one of the tastiest Mediterranean food spots around. Just in time for Happy Hour (5$ bowls 2pm-5pm), Sarah hooked it up w the recommendations and did not disappoint. It's my birthday today and we ordered for delivery through Grub Hub. The mozzarella sticks when I bit into them had literally no cheese. The gyro meat was a little crusty and overfilled. The pita bread was crusty and old. The cauliflower in the picture is going bad (you can see the white and the grey looking photo). This was just all the way around messy and it seems like whoever is in the kitchen has ZERO pride or integrity in their line of work. Hire a better head chef, this was disgusting and looked and tasted like a group of young kids tried cooking for the first time and failed. Either the restaurant is selectively making bad food for certain customers OR the people leaving good reviews have never had a decent meal in their life. We spoke to Eva who offered us free food and we declined. Get your act together people and take some pride in your work! How this has over 4 stars I'll never know. Ordered a wrap and was increasingly disgusted as each step of the food was prepared until the coup de grâce when the worker wrong me up before finishing the food, manhandled every element of the POS station, back front side, then went back to shoving the same gloved hands in all the ingredients and wrapping up the wrap. When I used to work over near Kalos, a few friends (co-workers) and I would venture there at least once a week. The service was great and the food was top notch. I've been on a keto way of eating and they were more than accommodating with my needs. I'd order a bowl of just gyro meat with some feta and it was delicious!
