It's so colorful with emphasis on purple and blue. I felt like I was inside of one of those adult bingo places, as if the place could transform into a game room or club at night. Super cute! It did take a while to get our food, but I will say that the shrimp ceviche was DELECTABLE and our tacos were delicious! The shrimp tacos were my fav! They have a station where you can dress them. I am a fan of Kalaveras, this is the 4th location I have dined at. I ordered Aquachilies which was a mini seafood tower, garnished with sliced cucumbers, pickled red onion, orange slices, and fresh squeezed lemon juice. They menu has a good selection of beef, poultry, pork and seafood, plus a children's menu. They have unique specialty cocktails, I usually order a mini flight so I can taste more than one concoction (*:*)... They dial up the entertainment with a DJ, band, or karaoke nights. The restaurant, literally turns into a night club atmosphere. It is VERY loud, so have an early dinner and enjoy happy hour prices if you want a quieter meal. On this occasion, I was here to celebrate a birthday. The servers went ALL-OUT by singing, blowing whistles, banging a drum and lighting up a shooting sparkler. It was super fun for all of us. I feel they have been very clever at making a name for themselves with their menu, decor and entertainment. Every location is literally "covered" in artistic murals and graphics. I truly appreciate the extra effort to bring art into the establishment. It gives local artists an opportunity to showcase their talents. This is my favorite location!! The staff go above and beyond...especially the GM, Celiany, Amanda & Willy. They welcomed me and my friends for my birthday celebration which I will never forget! Stopped by during happy hour for a dear friend's birthday celebration and had a great experience! Vivid, vibrant cantina vibes with a Dia de Los Muertos theme, lively music, homemade syrups for their drinks, and an eclectic mix of dishes on their menu! They have a generous happy hour menu weekdays from 3-7pm and the chicken taquitos were a big hit with our party. We also tried the buffalo wings and they were pretty decent except that the sauce was a tad watery for my liking. Everyone loved their drinks - Sex on the Beach, Cucumber Margarita Slushie, Pomegranate Marg - all fresh, beautiful, and delicious! Off the regular menu we sampled cheese quesadillas and esquite which were both excellent. And they even have a couple of intriguing (and very unexpected!) sushi rolls - so I couldn't resist trying their Dragon Roll - which has crab, jalapeño, cream cheese, and cucumber inside and comes fried with spicy mayo and teriyaki on top - it also comes with a couple of pieces of shrimp tempura on the side. The roll is absolutely ENORMOUS!! It could easily feed two (if not three) people! I couldn't believe how huge it was - it was good but a tad bland so I'm not sure I'd get it again unless I was sharing with people. The shrimp tempura it came with was excellent though and the shrimp inside was very large. The vibes are seriously cute - such vibrant colors and I loved all the wall art and decor. The space is wide open, they have live music and even had salsa dancing on our visit! There's table and bar seating and it's a good marriage of hometown bar vs dance club vibes. This place was such a vibe! Great food and music, the service was great in the fact they were fast despite it being crazy packed for Cinco De Mayo. They were all energetic, they had dancers and a drag queen there haha. It was such a blast. Food and alcoholic drinks were amazing! Came to Kalaveras for lunch with some coworkers on a Wednesday. The place was pretty empty, but it's a LARGE dining room area with a full bar. There were TV screens everywhere bumping Bad Bunny type of music. Felt like a club. Totally a vibe. Cheese Quesadillas - Delicious!!! The cheese was cheesin!! The only thing that could've been improved was having a crispier tortilla. I also would've loved it if there was more guac and salsa in the little cups they provide for your quesadilla. You could also add meat for an additional charge La Güera - Such a divine cocktail! Looks super fruity but it actually had a nice balance. Very tropical tasting. Visited this location for the first time. Great welcoming into the party zone. It's a large room filled with tables, bar and open dance floor with live music and special events throughout the week. Great place to celebrate a friends Birthday! They go all out here. I will make one suggestion, maybe have the whistle person not blowing right next to customers ears. Everything else was spectacular and really made for a great night of celebration. All the staff here are amazingly wonderful and really take good care of their guests. Situated in the NoHo Arts District, this fast casual Mexican Restaurant will captivate you with its festive décor, vibrant artwork, tempting libations, and creative menu options. House made syrups are used in cocktails, and their margaritas are made from scratch. A group of us came here to celebrate our favorite Yelp Social Butterfly, Te-See B's birthday. We were there for Happy Hour, which is from 3 - 7 pm and features $10 drink specials and $7.99 appetizers. I opted for one of their handcrafted margaritas - El Chupacabras (tequila, lime, & Hibiscus flower syrup). It was pretty and delicious. Bartender Willy was friendly, personable, & entertaining. Later in the evening I had the house Margarita (Kalavera). It was also tasty. Some friends ordered food from the Happy Hour menu and others from the regular menu. The selections included: Buffalo Spicy Wings, Chicken Taquitos, Cheese Quesadilla, Esquite, Aguachile, Dragon Roll, & Culichi Roll. The serving size of each dish was generous, especially the rolls, which could easily feed 2 or 3 people. I had a slice of the Dragon Roll. It was huge! Crab, jalapeño, cream cheese, and cucumber wrapped in seaweed, coated in tempura batter, and fried. It was drizzled with spicy mayo & teriyaki sauce and came with two pieces of shrimp tempura nuggets on the side. It was delicious and one slice was filling. I also had a bit of the Esquite - roasted corn tossed in garlic aioli, cotija, & chili powder and some of the Cheese Quesadilla. Both were quite good. Shout out to our server Celly. She was an absolute doll and checked on us regularly to see if we wanted to order additional items. I left before the live music and salsa dancing started but we all had a fun time celebrating our Birthday Queen. This is now my third Kalaveras experience but each one has been a different location. The first two experiences have been great. When I learned there will be one in my local area I was pretty hyped about it. Knowing it was going to replace Big Wangs wasn't exactly my ideal since I never really enjoyed coming to Big Wangs. The interior layout was just meh and the vibe just didn't sit with me very well. Now that Kalaveras has taken over, I still have the same vibe as the previous restaurant. Although the interior looks different I just can't shake it. This experience was different. I was finally able to try a couple of items from the full menu. (past experiences was AYCE brunch and limited menu brunch) I enjoyed the nachos and aguachiles. Honestly, I would like to come back and check out other entree items another time. There wasn't many people during my visit so the service was pretty good! Our server was very attentive on how we were enjoying our food and getting us another round of drinks. Skip this location. We've been to the Pasadena one and it was fun for a group, the food was good, the drinks were strong. Each of those things was exactly the opposite at North Hollywood. We had an evening reservation for dinner. We were seated in the middle of the room, which was absolutely roaring with everyone else's chatter and loud music. The ceilings are high and the din just echoed - it's like sitting in a warehouse of noise. The drinks we ordered were tiny, weak, and sugary, so we skipped dinner there and went across the street to the Federal (RIP). We thought we'd try it again for brunch, thinking that if we sat on the patio, it'd be quieter. Upon checking in for our reservation, we were informed the only brunch option was a buffet, with bottomless mimosas if we wanted that. We grudgingly stayed, but we shouldn't have. The mimosas were thick, warm, and weak. The buffet was underwhelming. Taco station, a variety of meats, various dishes (like a tray of tamales), fruit, waffles, desserts - but nothing outstanding or even "pretty good". We slopped together a few plates, but it wasn't worth what we paid. Service wasn't great. The patio was hot. I'd come back to Big Wangs and their "C" rating from the health department (the predecessor in this space) before I'd try this Kalaveras again. read more

Really wanted to like this place with all the hype online but I was not impressed. The service was good and staff are really helpful and friendly but the food. *sigh* the food was awful. The chips that were brought out with the guac were so stale that we ended up just leaving the entire basket of chips. My rice and beans tasted like they were from a can. The enchilada I ordered that were supposed to just be cheese was basically a brick of unmelted cheese with canned sauce. My friend also ordered some nachos that she let me try and neither of us ate it. I am so disappointed because I was expecting to eat some really good Mexican food in LA but was highly disappointed. The cocktails were good though with actual fresh fruit it seemed like. So maybe skip dinner and come for drinks. My friend said she also asked if they did anything special for bdays but they said no only if she paid. Now I get it, you're a business. I'm giving this place only 2 stars because apparently the owners of the spot show up with their creepy friends and these friends go around harassing their female patrons. It's so weird because this "friend" of the owner was walking around with an iPad almost as to trick paying customers to think he works there. After harassing my table TWO different times, we asked the bartender if he worked there and she confirmed he does not. Which was also concerning since the staff seemed to see we were uncomfortable, but looks they have their hands tied and couldn't say anything to him to leave us alone. No one helped us. Look, I like this place alright. I come here every other week. They make a decent drink and their lunch specials (although they've gotten worse in the last few months) are still pretty good. BUT... I went in here with my girlfriend on CINCO DE MAYO, and the situation was awful. The music was alarmingly loud. Like, loud enough to the point where the hostess had to YELL to talk to us. Then, once we got sat, we asked what cinco specials they had and the Waitress, hi again had to YELL over the music, said they didn't have any cinco specials. None. At all. On top of THAT, she told us that "because it was a holiday" they also removed their normal specials. No Margarita Monday. No happy hour. How ridiculous is that? We promptly got up, left, and went to El Tejano, which has pretty great cinco specials and music set at a level where you could actually hear people talk. I mean, shoot, we went to CanTiki after, a freaking TIKI BAR, and THEY had cinco specials. I get that Kalaveras thinks they're the hot new kid on the block... but getting rid of drinking specials, on a drinking holiday, is not a good way to make a positive impact with the community. We had a mediocre time here. Our expectations were high, while the experience lacked severely. 1st problem, the service was lacking. The waitress kept talking with her co workers and manager, rather than checking in on us. Which we had to flag several times to get her to come once. 2) the manager started toggeling with the control for the tv's. We were watching a football game, when he brilliantly changed it to the baseball game in the middle of a play. He wanted to watch baseball, and he decided to change it regardless if that guest were glued to the tv. He did notice we were into the game, because we made eye contact and still decided it was a good idea to change it. Seeing that the game sucked, since they were losing, he decided to change it back, when he saw that and noticed we were annoyed. By then the mood was off. 3) half the food was eh. Some plates were delicious and some just lacked flavor, like the ceviche, the pasta and a taco plate. 4) now to the worst part. The place thinks that paying a 18% service charge on top of the tip, is ok. I've paid the service charge before, I don't have a doblen with that, but not at all close to that percentage. We googled it and at the time it was 5% to 15% Mind you this was during the day, and it was my hubby and I, with our three children. We were never informed the service charge would be that amount prior to ordering, for anyone wondering. read more

Sunday Funday!! I'll take some bottomless mimosas please... Well when they remember to refill them lol... which eventually they did and then some... Weekends are busy as can be at Kalaveras - North Hollywood. This sultry chain of easy Mexican meets Latin American cuisine, culture and quality is definitely doing it's thing! I've had great service here, amazing drinks and of course tacos!! I haven't been able to make it out...yet for their weekday lunch specials (11 AM - 2 PM), but have been lucky enough the experience so good food, good music and many of the Kalaveras "Tripulación"/Crew in action. Love watching old nostalgic videos of Selena (Quintanilla) that always seem to pop up as well as her classics, not mention mucha musica de artistas increíbles... From Gloria Estefan, Menudo, Los Tigres del Norte, Bad Bunny, the list goes on. It's such a colorful and vibrant place... nods to dia de los muertos, festivals, street art and modern South American, Mexican and Latin culture. I'm grateful with it's nuance take on it's style that it also translates to their menu via plant-based options. I've had all three vegan taco options, the soyrizo being a favorite, but no duermas en el mushroom y camote vegano or the yum yum sides (beans, rice, sweet potato fries, regular fries, side salad, etc. I believe they can do veggie bowls, pepita salad, and do do potato taquitos as well. I haven't tried but would recommend asking or customizing as needed for any dairy sensitivity or preferences as well. Unfortunately for me the brunch menu doesn't have an plan out vegan option (but does some vegetarian ones). It is possible to get creative with their avocado toast or torta however. Try the Margarita flights or better yet... A pitcher!! And get happy off happier hour because the drinks are richer!! You can find some parking on the street or in the shared lot behind Kalaveras with neighboring businesses and local housing. High recommend para los Domingos y Taco Martes!!
