I was in town for a trade show. This food truck was outside and I was hungry. Being from California but living out South has me missing some incredible California burritos. This place had them...and oh my goodness it was by far the best I've ever had. Everything we had was tasty, but overall it was a pretty frustrating experience. Several people who ordered after us received their food before we did. I understand that some dishes can take longer, but from what we could tell, our order wasn't anything that should have caused such a delay. The Cuban sandwich was delicious--but it felt more "Cuban-inspired" than authentic. From what I remember, a true Cuban sandwich is pressed, not just toasted. Unfortunately, the rest of our order had multiple issues. We ordered loaded fries with carne asada but were given chicken instead. We also ordered garlic fries, which they completely forgot, so we had to wait even longer. When we finally got the fries, they weren't even garlic--they were seasoned with Tajín. That was especially disappointing since my child doesn't like spicy or citrusy flavors. The initial servings were small and then they became bigger. They ran out of the fish tacos three quarters of the way. Both dishes were flavorful but nothing extraordinary. The Kala Truck has reliably delicious Mexican-inspired food options in north OC (which, outside of Santa Ana and Anaheim, are really hard to find). Literally everything on their menu is filling, super tasty, and the portions are quite generous. Their quesadillas and burritos (Cali burrito is my favorite) are just as good as anything you'd get in LA. I came across their food via my work which regularly needs food vendors for special events, and the Kala Truck is now known as a surefire crowd-pleaser. We hired The Kala Truck for our building's annual Christmas party this year and it was amazing! The food was fresh and delicious. The service was superb. The truck came on time and Hector communicated with us throughout the event. We had Protein Bowls, Vegan Bowls, The Cali Burrito and The Cuban Sandwich as our menu. First time trying this food truck outside the Honda Center before an Anaheim Ducks versus Carolina Hurricanes hockey game. I had a chance to try out Kala Truck when they were at the Anaheim Convention Center after being referred to them by my partner. From the menu, it looked like they had good variety of different items available. I ultimately decided to get the Surf and Turf bowl that I would share with my partner! The service was quick and easy, just like how a food truck should be. At the same time, the little interaction at the window to order was a pleasure because they had a great smile and attitude! After getting our order, I was excited to see what the hype was about from my partner who recommended me. After just 1 bite, I could tell Kala Truck was the real deal! Another food truck to the office - And a mighty fine one at that! I ordered the Cali burrito and oh man was it a doozy. Classic Cali burrito with the carne asada, fries, and all the fixings. Fries were fluffy yet crisp on the outside, the protein was seasoned to perfection, and the condiments in the burrito all complemented each other so well. You'd think that a combination of all these things would leave you feeling greasy and disgusted, but it really was delicious, had all the flavor you could want yet didn't leave you feeling ashamed. There was no mixing and matching and 3 tacos were provided with each order. Korean short rib tacos- Street size tacos were prepared with braised short rib, some sweet-sesame soy marinade, cabbage kimchi slaw, and scallions. All of this were served on soft corn shell tortillas. Unfortunately the braised beef was dry, and the marinade was a little muted in terms of flavor. After spending a few hours wandering around Wonder-Con, my stomach and I were ready to browse the selection of food trucks that were available. I walked down the row of selections and settled on Kala, after looking over the menu and hearing someone suggest that the protein bowl was tasty. I ended up getting the loaded fries with al pastor chicken and added beans & guac. It did NOT disappoint. The chicken was so tender and flavorful, the toppings were plentiful and fresh and the fries were still crisp beneath them; you can just tell they put a lot of love into their food. I'm now an advocate for al pastor chicken being served everywhere. I also loved the tangy chipotle sauce that was drizzled on top, it served as a nice compliment to everything and tied the flavors together. Definitely make sure to splurge on the extra $1.50 to add guac, it's delicious and very necessary. (The beans are an optional pro move but I highly recommend you opt for them as well.) It was a satisfying and hearty meal, but so good that I was still tempted to buy another one after I was finished. I really hope I can catch Kala again sometime when I'm in Anaheim. So, onto the fries- they were seasoned, which are my favorite because it stands up on its own. You can pick the fries below the bowl without the toppings and they're already super flavorful. They were pretty generous on the carnitas serving. I enjoyed how the carnitas are fried after it has been slow cooked because I prefer the fried, chewier texture. The toppings were drizzled sour cream and salsa verde with pico de gallo (has bits of jalapeños- yum). A side of house sauce, which is a creamy chipotle comes with the order. There were also salsa bottles on the truck you can assemble to take with you. The creamy avocado sauce was my favorite of the 3. I eat from this food truck every time I go to a Ducks Game (I have also had them at the NAMM Show). They are incredible! I, personally, get their Cali Burrito. I have had grilled chicken, carne asada, and carnitas, and they are all fabulous. You get a huge burrito, the fries have a yummy seasoning, the meat is cooked perfectly, and the secret sauce is absolutely delicious! I have gotten the Cali Burrito a handful of times now, and I have never had a bad burrito. My wife has had a wider variety of food, from the Chicken Quesadilla to the Surf & Turf Bowl, and she has never had a bad meal either. The service is also wonderful. What a wonderful experience we had with Hector and his team, celebrating my mother's birthday. It was a small gathering, and Kala just made it feel like a big event with their food. The appetizers were delicious, lobster/crab taquitos, ceviche tostadas, and fresh fruit. They also made a Mexican surf and turf, with tender meat and shrimp that were not too spicy. I wanna think I ate healthy - maybe I did, maybe I didn't, but it sure did feel like it! Delicious food and there were some definite healthy alternatives either way! So many tempting items that it was really hard to narrow it down. The cheery guy taking our orders was willing to work with me to just get a mix of a few things rather than the menued items. I ordered 2 of the recommended tacos; 1) Citrus Chicken Taco which had chopped mango, chunks of marinated chicken, onion and a habanero salsa 2) Patron Taco loaded with delicious cubes of steak, guacamole, lettuce, tomato and drizzled with a tomatillo salsa. Both of these served with beans and rice, however I did not want black beans so I opted for double rice. Rice was decent but nothing really to write home about. My friend landed on the Tamarind Chicken Wrap which was HUGE and shoved full of chicken and a citrus quinoa, flavored with a nice tamarindo sauce. She absolutely loved it and was willing to let me try a bite, delish! All in all, we really enjoyed our tasty and seemingly healthy dinners. If I had to complain, I would say that there wasn't nearly enough spice even though he told me which items were the spiciest. Portions were huge and really tasty, so there's not a complaint too much. A bit pricy but we are willing to pay extra for fresh and healthy choices. I also ordered a Watermelon Fresca which was not too sweet (or cold) but it washed down the tacos nicely. Loaded Fries with carnitas were AMAZING. My foodie BFF and I thankfully took a chance on this truck when it came by our office in Irvine. We read the reviews and went in with high expectations...which were all met. We both ended up with the loaded fries with carnitas which were VERY loaded. They did not get stingy with any of the toppings or meat. GENEROUS comes to mind. Note for the lactose intolerant brethren: You can get it without the cheese but take a pill so you can at least enjoy the sour cream and maybe even ask for a side of their creamy chipotle sauce. The OC Wine Mart was hosting the Kala truck. I tried most of the menu, and its definitely comfort food. The food is tasty, but if you're looking for that "mexican kick" this may not be the truck to try. The food is fresh, good quality and tasty but I didn't find the food overly spicy. Their signature dish is the El Patron Taco, which could have the most kick of all the menu items. Their enchilada was delicious, but very difficult to eat if you're on the go. I suggested cutting it up, but that would ruin the presentation. My favorite was the Cochinita pork slider, very tender pork in a pretzel type bun. That'll be my go to item! The shrimp taco was excellent but didn't have the punch / kick I was waiting for... but still flavorful. I'm giving a 4 star for the quality of the food. I thought I would be getting the sad two layers nachos: first layer amazing with all the delicious toppings, second layer plain chips. I'm not sure if they were layered when prepared, but the meat and sauce was able to make it past the top of the bowl and into at least the mid section of fries, so I know I'm getting my money's worth. 彡彡彡彡 Employees are super nice and very accommodating.
