Kala was one of 2 food trucks at the usher party at Segerstrom. They were offering poutine with chicken sausage, fish taco and vegetarian taco. I tried the poutine and fish taco. The initial servings were small and then they became bigger. They ran out of the fish tacos three quarters of the way. Both dishes were flavorful but nothing extraordinary. The theme of the party was Mardi Gras and so the food choices were a miss.
Really good food! Their burritos are bursting with flavor. You can't go wrong with anything they serve.
First time trying this food truck outside the Honda Center before an Anaheim Ducks versus Carolina Hurricanes hockey game. I ordered the protein bowl with carne asada which comes with pico de halló, Spanish rice, and pinto beans. I added guacamole for $2. The water at $5 was overpriced. Great portions, decent flavor, well-cooked non-fatty carne asada. Some crisp chips and medium salsa included. Very satisfying. The staff was friendly and quick.
I had a chance to try out Kala Truck when they were at the Anaheim Convention Center after being referred to them by my partner. From the menu, it looked like they had good variety of different items available. I ultimately decided to get the Surf and Turf bowl that I would share with my partner! The service was quick and easy, just like how a food truck should be. At the same time, the little interaction at the window to order was a pleasure because they had a great smile and attitude! After getting our order, I was excited to see what the hype was about from my partner who recommended me. After just 1 bite, I could tell Kala Truck was the real deal! The flavors and textures of the beans and rice with the veggies and asada and shrimp, with the melty cheese and distinct chimichurri sauce came together perfectly! The portions were generous and filling, as my partner and I were able to share one order. Definitely had a great experience eating at Kala Truck! If I had a chance to try them again, I'd definitely do it.
Ordered a Cali Burrito - Carne Asada for $9.50. It was disappointing because it was abnormally sour, too much lime and the meat was rough and over cooked.
Kala Truck was preparing Korean tacos for a weekday lunch at my work. They had a choice of chicken or beef Korean tacos, along with some fries. There was no mixing and matching and 3 tacos were provided with each order. Korean short rib tacos- Street size tacos were prepared with braised short rib, some sweet-sesame soy marinade, cabbage kimchi slaw, and scallions. All of this were served on soft corn shell tortillas. Unfortunately the braised beef was dry, and the marinade was a little muted in terms of flavor. The fries were the same size and shape of ones one might find at Mc Donald's however they weren't as crispy. Overall while the portion size was good, the tacos were disappointing taste wise.
Our daughter has been at our church's VBS this week and Kala Truck is her option for dinner. This is what Kala Truck served her for dinner, a cold hotdog and fries as she is Gluten Free. Sad they offer gf, but didn't have the respect for the kids to provide a gf bun. Hopefully they take more pride in the quality of the rest of their menu.
Another food truck to the office - And a mighty fine one at that! I ordered the Cali burrito and oh man was it a doozy. Classic Cali burrito with the carne asada, fries, and all the fixings. Fries were fluffy yet crisp on the outside, the protein was seasoned to perfection, and the condiments in the burrito all complemented each other so well. You'd think that a combination of all these things would leave you feeling greasy and disgusted, but it really was delicious, had all the flavor you could want yet didn't leave you feeling ashamed. The side salsas provided had a nice spicy, acidic kick that helps cut through the unctuousness. Definitely going back next time Kala Truck makes a stop at my office!
This truck was at 4675 MacArthur today and saved the day. My taco plate was hot, fresh rice and beans and it was seasoned very well. I've recommended it to my coworkers and would ditch a homemade lunch if I saw this downstairs again It was about $9 for this taco plate, very comparable pricing to a lot of places, the plate was very filling too

Everything we had was tasty, but overall it was a pretty frustrating experience. Several people who ordered after us received their food before we did. I understand that some dishes can take longer, but from what we could tell, our order wasn't anything that should have caused such a delay. The Cuban sandwich was delicious--but it felt more "Cuban-inspired" than authentic. From what I remember, a true Cuban sandwich is pressed, not just toasted. Unfortunately, the rest of our order had multiple issues. We ordered loaded fries with carne asada but were given chicken instead. We also ordered garlic fries, which they completely forgot, so we had to wait even longer. When we finally got the fries, they weren't even garlic--they were seasoned with Tajín. That was especially disappointing since my child doesn't like spicy or citrusy flavors. To top it off, the prices are on par with a full-service brick-and-mortar restaurant, so we expected much better accuracy and service. Overall, a really disappointing experience. read more

These prices are outrageous for a food truck. California Burrito is $17 with tax. This is a food truck selling restaurant priced burritos without any of its amenities. I was hungry but there is no way I am going to be paying this much for street food. People paying this amount for a burrito is why we continue to have inflation. read more
I was in town for a trade show. This food truck was outside and I was hungry. Being from California but living out South has me missing some incredible California burritos. This place had them...and oh my goodness it was by far the best I've ever had. Maybe it was the added fact it's been literal years since my last California burrito...but I was blown away by the quality of this thing and the flavor just melting in my mouth. I am so happy this food truck was around and I got to experience their craft. Their Baja fish tacos were also incredibly delicious. Dying to go back and try to find these guys so I can have the same experience. read more

CARNITAS. LOADED. FRIES. It was loaded! We get a lot of food trucks near our workplace and it's usually more misses than hits; however, Kala Truck was a hit! The loaded fries was delicious and reasonably priced. Most of their menu items were 10-12$. At the time, they had 4 items on their menu, which I appreciate because it's not about the quantity. So, onto the fries- they were seasoned, which are my favorite because it stands up on its own. You can pick the fries below the bowl without the toppings and they're already super flavorful. They were pretty generous on the carnitas serving. I enjoyed how the carnitas are fried after it has been slow cooked because I prefer the fried, chewier texture. The toppings were drizzled sour cream and salsa verde with pico de gallo (has bits of jalapeños- yum). A side of house sauce, which is a creamy chipotle comes with the order. There were also salsa bottles on the truck you can assemble to take with you. The creamy avocado sauce was my favorite of the 3. I can't wait until this food truck rolls around our office again! read more
The truck came to my offices complex for the day. I got the california burrito. It was a good portion, more than I could eat. I got the pork carnitas in mine and it was very very tasty but also a little too salty. Also the fresh fries in it weren't as crispy as I'd like but overall it was a very tasty burrito and extremely filling. And the salsas were extra yummy. read more
I came here during my lunch break at the Commons in Irvine and the food was amazing. I was really surprised and I'm glad I selected this food truck. I got the protein bowl with chicken and added guacamole. The portion was more than enough the food was delicious. They were also quick to serve the food. My coworker got a burrito which came with chips and she loved it! Highly recommend, delicious! read more
Once up on a time there was a cool truck with good food creative good and cool guys. They liked to mixed and match Mexican and American food. (If you guys have read my reviews I'm not a bit fan of food trucks but for some reason, laziness mainly, I decided to try Kala) I ordered Tacos del patrón, the meat was very flavorful but unfortunately the quality of the meat is not as good as I thought it was going to be. Presentation was great, and service was very attentive. *****Yelp please we need half stars, in my opinion Kala is a solid 4.5 but as of now I only can give it 4 stars***** Why not 5? To me was a big deal the meat quality, maybe I became a meat quality snob, who knows. But I was told that the meat was going to be great and it wasn't. The amount of food for almost $12 was sad. I ordered the 2 taco combo with chips and salsa. There was barely any sauce on the tacos and the cheese was not even melted. The carne asada seemed like it was previously cooked then warmed up before serving. I would've been okay if this was like $6. They're smoking crack for charging this double the price!! read more
I wanna think I ate healthy - maybe I did, maybe I didn't, but it sure did feel like it! Delicious food and there were some definite healthy alternatives either way! So many tempting items that it was really hard to narrow it down. The cheery guy taking our orders was willing to work with me to just get a mix of a few things rather than the menued items. I ordered 2 of the recommended tacos; 1) Citrus Chicken Taco which had chopped mango, chunks of marinated chicken, onion and a habanero salsa 2) Patron Taco loaded with delicious cubes of steak, guacamole, lettuce, tomato and drizzled with a tomatillo salsa. Both of these served with beans and rice, however I did not want black beans so I opted for double rice. Rice was decent but nothing really to write home about. My friend landed on the Tamarind Chicken Wrap which was HUGE and shoved full of chicken and a citrus quinoa, flavored with a nice tamarindo sauce. She absolutely loved it and was willing to let me try a bite, delish! All in all, we really enjoyed our tasty and seemingly healthy dinners. If I had to complain, I would say that there wasn't nearly enough spice even though he told me which items were the spiciest. Portions were huge and really tasty, so there's not a complaint too much. A bit pricy but we are willing to pay extra for fresh and healthy choices. I also ordered a Watermelon Fresca which was not too sweet (or cold) but it washed down the tacos nicely. I'm going to be following this truck and next time it's in my 'hood I will absolutely try more items. This truck's a keeper. CHEERS!! read more
Trucks like these really put allot of brick and mortar joints to shame. Just plain delish take on Mexican classics w/ so cal twist. Never would I have guessed that quinoa would work in a surf and turf burrito ( el burrito) but it's toasty, nutty nature compliments well its fellow burrito ingredients. Grab a bite if you see them. You can thank me later. read more

What a wonderful experience we had with Hector and his team, celebrating my mother's birthday. It was a small gathering, and Kala just made it feel like a big event with their food. The appetizers were delicious, lobster/crab taquitos, ceviche tostadas, and fresh fruit. They also made a Mexican surf and turf, with tender meat and shrimp that were not too spicy. The kids also got hamburgers and fresh fries. I will definitely be hiring Kala for my next event. read more

The OC Wine Mart was hosting the Kala truck. I tried most of the menu, and its definitely comfort food. The food is tasty, but if you're looking for that "mexican kick" this may not be the truck to try. The food is fresh, good quality and tasty but I didn't find the food overly spicy. Their signature dish is the El Patron Taco, which could have the most kick of all the menu items. Their enchilada was delicious, but very difficult to eat if you're on the go. I suggested cutting it up, but that would ruin the presentation. My favorite was the Cochinita pork slider, very tender pork in a pretzel type bun. That'll be my go to item! The shrimp taco was excellent but didn't have the punch / kick I was waiting for... but still flavorful. I'm giving a 4 star for the quality of the food. They're a new truck so there will be plenty of changes and improvments. Good luck! read more

Quality service with great food and value for money! The food truck came around my apartment complex and I was excited to try the California Burrito. As many other food trucks tend to have smaller portions, I was happy to see it also came with a side of chips and salsa! The burrito itself was fresh and incredibly filling. Kala's workers were very friendly and efficient- I definitely recommend trying their food! read more
Awesome truck. Had the Patron tacos last and really enjoyed. Reads like gourmet, and tastes like it too. Also tried the Cajun shrimp tacos, which had a nice sauce on it. The shrimp were prepared perfect. The crispy chicken floutas look like they are next on my list. They ran out the last time I visited (a good sign). I will search them out. read more

I don't know if it was because I was starving, but I had such delicious chorizo tacos!! I thought I would be getting the sad two layers nachos: first layer amazing with all the delicious toppings, second layer plain chips. But there was enough toppings to be evenly distributed with all the chips. They were delicious and I'd be more than happy to try anything else on their menu. read more
I got the chicken flautas, they were good. They seemed to be a bit greasy but that happens when you have fried food then the chopped tomatoes on top seems random...I would think it would be more of a pico de gallo but it was still good! The lettuce on the bottom gets a bit wilted from the hot flautas but that is to be expected. Overall I would try this truck again and try something else on the menu. read more
Loaded Fries with carnitas were AMAZING. My foodie BFF and I thankfully took a chance on this truck when it came by our office in Irvine. We read the reviews and went in with high expectations...which were all met. We both ended up with the loaded fries with carnitas which were VERY loaded. They did not get stingy with any of the toppings or meat. GENEROUS comes to mind. Note for the lactose intolerant brethren: You can get it without the cheese but take a pill so you can at least enjoy the sour cream and maybe even ask for a side of their creamy chipotle sauce. But I found the dish was best with the guacamole salsa (which is self-serve on the front side of the truck). read more
I was in the taco mood on Saturday of Star Wars Celebration and saw the Kala truck..Im not sure what "Kala" means and asked my girlfriend who is Mexican who also had no clue, so I am going to assume it is the last name of the owner, or something... Any who, I saw they had three kinds of tacos on the menu but did not offer a sampler plate of each, so I asked if I could get one of each and the cashier had to call the boss to find out how to do that...no issue, but I did find it odd that no one would ever ask for one of each considering the tacos come in plates of three anywho, issue resolved and I got the fish, shrimp, and patron tacos for $11.50 Before i get into each taco, I am not sure which taco was just ridiculously spicy, but it kind of ruined the rest of the meal. I took a bit of one and my mouth was on fire, like chemical burn fire not the good sizzle fire of a nice pepper in a salsa The patron taco meat was not very tender, and not much there at all...all i tasted was watery guacamole dolloped on the whole taco The cajun shrimp taco was okay, the shrimp had good flavor but only 3 little shrimp? and the poblano sauce was somewhere underneath the slaw, so not much flavor and the last taco, the baja fish taco, again was lacking flavor with the chipotle cream sauce somewhere in there sorry to say, Kala was a big disappointment read more

Their fries are crispylicious!! I have a rule when food truck cant make their fries crispy and perfect then the rest is BS. Not Kala! Fries alone are phenomenal! So many times they've come by at work (Corp Plaza in Newport Beach) and my coworkers and I are always happy with the food we get! GOOD QUALITY FOOD and they always bring their A game to the table. I mean look at all the pics of our food! Photos don't lie. read more
