If i can give this business a negative star, i would. I started going to their Brewery District branch, 11431 104 Ave NW Edmonton, T5K 2S2, last year (2017) and had nothing but a bunch of negative experiences ever since.
First issue:
I bought a set of Nokian Winter tires November 2017. This was the set highly recommended by their staff. By the fourth week of December 2017, i started having flats on them. It started with one flat tire, which i replaced with my spare donut right away. A secone tire went flat a few days after and i just avoided driving my car at the time. Due to the holidays, i wasnt able to have them fixed until the first week of January. When i took them in to this store, they told me that its already down to 70% treads and theyll charge me based on pro rated prices, around 200 bucks. They also told me that the tires look like thevyve been driven on while flat. 30% tread gone in less than 2 months of regular driving?? Either they recommended a really shitty tire or theyre squeezing money off of me. I brought to them my concerns and they (the manager, Ryan Poltaruk/his full name and picture is posted on their wall) very aggressively said that since the tires look like theyve been driven on while flat (absolutely, no, they werent, i have a tire inflator kit in my car, and when the second one went flag, i immediately pulled over and re pumped it until i could drive it home and keep it there until i can take it in to get repaired) they could choose in fact not to honor the warranty and i should just be grateful that theyre not charging me for the full price of the tire they had to fix. Whatever. My word against theirs, and they have my car on jacks. Either pay and have it fixed, or they slap all the broken ass tires they sold me and take it somewhere else. I took out my wallet and very grudgingly paid the balance. This is the closest i have ever come to a hostage for ransom situation.
Second issue:
When i bought my winters from them, i also chose to have my all seasons stored in their warehouse. This issue popped up a week ago (Saturday, May 12th), when i went in for my appointment to have my winters switched to my all seasons. When i brought in my car, they told me that even though their systems shower that all 4 tires were delivered from their warehouse to their store, they only physically have 2 of them. They told me theyll give me a call Monday, May 14, to figure out how to proceed. It was almost end of business day on Monday and i havent gotten a call yet so i called them. I had to explain my situation twice to the person who answered the phone before transferring me to the manager, who told me that theyve been told that they cant find my tires and are deciding whether to keep looking for them or buy 2 new tires for me. These guys have been sitting on this info all day without letting me know.
So here i am, sitting in their waiting area, Saturday, May 19th waiting for them to install my all seasons. When i asked them in light of all the hassle and extra wear and tear on my winters they caused me, what they can do to keep me coming back as a repeat customer.
This is what they came up with:
-2 brand new tires free of charge (no shit sherlock, they should be free of charge since you guys lost my tires)
-free summer storage for my winters (no thanks, you guys lost my all seasons, can you imagine driving in a furious alberta snowstorm in all seasons because your tire store lost your winters??)
-5% discount on tire installation (golly gee, THANKS!)
I asked them: "you guys sold me a set of winters that went down to 70% treads in less than 2 months of driving, IN THE WINTER. Due to your guys' incompetence, i was forced to drive a full week in the hot Alberta summer, on roads that are more potholes than asphalt, with my winter tires. I cant imagine what that has done to my treads. Am i going to be compensated for that?"
Their reply? "Nope. What we gave you is all we can give you"
Edit:
-when they sold me my winters, part of their schpiel was 100% insurance that would cover things such as flat repairs. No mention whatsoever of their practice of pro rating.
-another employee named Ryan told me that to compensate me for my costs, they have brought down my fees down to 20 bucks overall. When i went to pay, another employee named Kaushal rang me up for 67.30 bucks and couldnt properly explained why is it so despite me being told that my bill was taken down to 20.
-i told them that i will not be storing my winters with them. I got in and my winters are NOT in the car. It took them 5 minutes of scratching their heads and figuring out who worked on my car before my tires were loaded. I also noticed that 2 of my hubcaps with my car's logo on it were missing. They said that they were missing on arrival. NOT TRUE. They were still there this morning when i did a walk around of my car to make sure i have enough space in the back for my winters. read more
