He's honest, kind, and extremely fair. My check engine light had recently lit up, and instead of inventing problems, he gave me a free diagnostic (since I had a diagnostic done a year ago) and he simply reset the light--no upsells, no tricks. Harry is extremely responsive and genuinely cares about his clients. During a stressful moment, I broke down in tears in the office, and he came out, gave me a huge hug, and made me feel seen and supported. That kind of compassion is rare. This place has been reliable, honest, and fast. I have gone here over the year numerous times, each time he worked with my schedule, had me out in time to go pick up my kids from Daycare, found me the best prices, and always called me prior, to ensure I was okay with the cost. he saved me a lot of money, ( Nissan quoted me $750 to replace a mirror) he got me itselfone and helped me install it myself to save on money, I was confident it was something I could do myself and just wanted to have someone more capable to oversee. The mirror it self was less than $40. I highly recommend Cali Automotive especially if you're in a pinch he will be honest of what he can do for you. read more

I took my classic car to Harry at Cali automotive because of the positive yelp reviews I had seen. There were a number of things the vehicle needed so I gave him a budget of $1100 to fix what he could. He called to tell me everything he had found and when the work was done he gave me a bill for $1600. I was annoyed that he had blown my budget by $500 but it seemed like quality work and the car needed it so I payed him the $1600. I then took my second car to him because it was shutting off at highway speeds. He ended up charging me over 3.5 hours of labour to diagnose the problem and change the ignition module and coil, both of which are easily changed out with a couple of bolts and an electrical connector, replacing them both would have been a 15 minute maximum job. The worst part is he charged me $320 for the ignition module when a genuine OEM ignition module from the dealer is $120. I will not be going back to Cali Automotive and I suggest you don't either, unless your happy paying 3 times what a part is worth or hours of unnecessary labour. read more

Harry is a top-notch guy who really looks out for his customers. I wasn't even a customer before I contacted him a few weeks ago to diagnose issues with my old car, on its last legs. He looked it over at no charge, and was honest with his findings... it was not worth it to repair. Then, Harry went way above and beyond as I was desperately trying to find a reliable vehicle in my price range. He tipped me on one I had overlooked during my search, and also inspected it for free. My whole life, I've always worried about whether or not mechanics had been being honest with me about what was wrong with my vehicles. Kind of like IT issues, I have no idea what's going on and the knowledge expert could tell me I need to jump in a circle on one leg three times to fix the problem and I would gladly say yes and do so. I've taken me and my wife's vehicles to Harry for a few years now and in two separate instances, he's told me that the issues are actually not much to worry about and could be addressed at a later date. I never feel like Harry is over charging, or taking advantage of my lack of knowledge, for their own benefit. Cali Automotive was referred to my husband by a co-worker who has gone there for lots of things and had nothing but good things to say. Happy to report that my husband also had a good experience there. We were having an issue with the front bumper and fog light, and the mechanic brought my husband in with him so that he could show him exactly what was wrong. A piece did need to be replaced and he gave my husband several options, including the most economical, timely, practical, and equally as effective solution. I found Harry by using Yelp and Google Reviews and they are quite accurate. First time I went there, Harry was honest and upfront about what needed to be done to fix my car. The front bearing was worn out on my car and I had brought my own part, thinking it was coming from the driver's side. He did the work but it didn't solve the problem. He suggested getting a "known good" part from his supplier and installing that, which I agreed to but the sound was still there. He then suggested replacing the bearing on the passenger's side, "just for Sh**s and giggles" as he put it, didn't charge labour for it, and, voila!, the problem was solved. After that experience, he was "my guy" when it came to my car. I can't stress enough how friendly, helpful, and honest Harry is. No BS, no upsells, just what you need and nothing more. He gets to your car fast too. A couple of hours for my bearings and just a few days ago, a day for a major oil leak in my car. Can't say enough nice things about him. His prices are reasonable but it is his customer service that stands out. He clearly cares very much about his customers and is very honest. I was there this morning with a car that would hardly move off the lights because it snowed a lot last night and I had the spare tire on one of my drive wheels because of a flat last week. He moved the tires around so that a good tire was on my drive wheel. No charge! And it's not the first time that he has done something for me for nothing. I called and spoke to Harry about needing an inspection for my car that I've been trying to sell. He booked me in for 6pm, even though he closes at 5, since I couldn't make it in earlier. My GPS got all funky on me when I was trying to find the location, and I missed the shop a few times, so pay attention for the sign! He's located in a residential area (I think...). He let me know that the car wasn't worth an inspection (the car is very old, and this and that). He could have just done the inspection (to make money), and send me on my way. Instead, he let me know that it honestly isn't worth it. I really liked his honesty, and how friendly he was. The price was also good (had I got the inspection done). The only thing that confused me was he said he couldn't check my transmission, to see if anything is wrong with it. I thought that's something a mechanic checks? I don't know much about cars though, so I may be wrong! Overall, I would recommend this place. read more

Stop looking for a mechanic. Harry is your guy. Let me tell you a story. I called him at 8:30am to ask if he could look at my truck that wouldn't start - said sure, no problem, bring it by. Had the truck towed to the shop by 10:00, where he proceeded to lift the hood and diagnose the problem. I asked if I could stay and learn a thing or two (because I'm a bit truck-dumb), and he proceeded to razz me good-naturedly because I didn't know what size engine I had. After some tinkering he figured it was the starter, and explained in layman's terms what the problem was. (He even put it right on the bill that he didn't charge me for the diagnosis because I helped.) He immediately got on the horn and ordered the part that was needed, saying the cheaper of the two quoted prices would do just fine. I left to get coffee but realized I didn't leave the key with him. Got back to the shop 20 minutes later and the new part had already been delivered. (From what I could hear from his phone convo, he has a great relationship with his supplier.) After showing me the starter and explaining the warranty I headed for home, only to get a call 45 minutes later to say he was all done. The truck was in and out of his shop in under two hours, and he even gave the thing a once-over, free of charge. Unbelievable. It was probably a function of the part being easy to get a hold of and the fact that he only had one other car in the shop - BUT. Harry is a total sweetheart, and if you can deal with a little verbal sparring, I swear to you, you'll be in good hands with him. read more

I had a bad day on Family day, I slipped on black ice and landed on my back and hurt my head, then I noticed my car's back right wheel was flat, my headlight was busted a few days before but didn't get the chance to install the bulb as it was too cold outside and it was very difficult to reach the back of the headlight. I phoned several shops but all of them were closed for the holidays. Until i came across Cali's while browsing through Yelp. I gave em a call, attached the donut on my car and was there 20 minutes later. I didn't expect to be treated better than just a customer, Harry was very sincere, honest and very helpful and treated me like a very good friend. He patched my tire for a few bucks and even offered to attach the new headlight I bought in Canadian Tire a few days back for free. The customer service in this shop is top notch. Not having a good experience with the dealerships, I decided to try an independant shop and I couldn't be more satisfied with Harry at Cali Automotive. I am seriously confused as to why this place has had nothing but 5 star reviews... maybe I'm being a bit of a skeptic, but seems unwarranted given the experience I had there today. I went to Cali Automotive to get an estimate on the repair cost to fix the front suspension on my '97 Volvo. The person who "helped" me (I'm assuming it was Harry who everyone speaks so highly of), was extremely short with me, on the verge of being outright rude. When I told him that I had taken my car somewhere else and thought the estimate I got from them sounded a bit high, he basically cut me off saying, and I quote, "I've got 25 other cars I'm taking care of right now, I don't have time for this". Which is fine, but maybe don't have on your website "feel free to stop in as we look forward to meeting you". As I must've looked confused or taken aback by his curtness, he then asked how much the quote was, without asking me anything else about the car or the problem, and said "yeah, just go there, it's a good deal" while walking away from me with his thumb up. Went to Canadian Tire because I was at my wits end, and they quoted and fixed it for $200 less than I was quoted. Maybe Harry was just having a bad day, but it's not an excuse to treat me like garbage. I left kind of in shock as I was expecting this place to be like the holy grail of mechanic shops or something, due to the insanely good reviews. I will of course never return there, and will never recommend this place to anyone. I've never felt the need to write a bad review for any service I've received anywhere. But I felt it necessary to write this perhaps to caution other (young women?) visiting the shop for the 1st time to lower their expectations a bit. read more

I had my SUV repaired there yesterday and had a great experience, all around. My interaction started here on Yelp as I was looking for a competent mechanic to fix my brakes. I called the shop to ask a few questions, but unfortunately I got a machine. It took overnight for them to return the call and I had almost given up on using them, but decided to give them a chance anyway, and I am glad i did. When I finally spoke with them, I described the problem and he gave me what turned out to be a reasonably accurate estimate. He also said bring it in any morning and we'll have it fixed by the end of the day - this is a phrase I am fond of hearing from mechanics because I find it is not often true. However, I dropped off at 9am and picked up by 4pm (1/2h earlier than told!) and once all the dust settled yesterday, I went home with a car with 4 shiny new brakes. Honest and Friendly Mechanic. This is what mechanic shops used to be like in the 50 or 60's, not a big corporation increasing the profit margin but Harry is like the friendly guy down the street that happens to know everything about cars. He is an honest mechanic that gives a fair price and does a reliable job. I heard of him from a friend and we have been to him a few times now, and have always been pleased. He will let you watch him work, will teach you a little bit about cars and will tell you about his family and restoration cars while doing it! My parents were thinking of selling their low Kilometers 2005 Ford Focus because they got a high estimate for repairs at the Dealership they normally went to.The estimate was close to the value of their car and were thinking of buying something newer.I told them I would try and find a good honest mechanic other than a Dealership and get another inspection first and go from there. I did some research online and found Cali Automotive and read the reviews. The reviews were all very positive and with the okay from my parents I booked them an appointment for an inspection. Harry's inspection opened my Parents eyes to the cost savings and the unnecessary work the Dealership was trying to sell them. When they got their estimate for repairs, they could not believe the difference in cost and got the work done.Harry from Cali Automotive was super with my parents and they will be going back when and if their car has troubles.
