Every time I've been here I am amazed by the variety of stuff the sell. Several times I had to look for a part and went to all the competitors and they didn't have it because it was a old style fixture not used anymore but guess what Ace had it. It seems like a small store but they have a lot packed into that store of things that the others don't have especially when you are trying to fix a older home. The staff are awesome unlike the large hardware stores where you have to search for someone they are around and friendly to help you find what you are looking for. I'm still not totally convinced this is a hardware store. Seriously. Three times I've been here, every time I am amazed by how friendly and helpful everyone is! I think my average time in this store is about 5 minutes, no joke! I walk in and I'm immediately greeted and and offered help. Twice we found what I needed right away and I was out of there. Another time they didn't have it, so I didn't even go past the gal at the register, whom I had a pleasant brief conversation with. The only reason I'm not giving five stars yet is because I feel like I haven't had sufficient experience with the place. I mean, I hardly know what kind of selection they have since I've never really had the chance to browse around while hunting for a staff member to help me! That is a good thing, you understand. I don't mean for this to be all about the service. Obviously they have a pretty good selection of things if two out of three times I've gone they have had what I needed. Extremely easy to find someone to help you here because it's so small and they usually have several salespeople on the floor. Prices are more expensive than Lowes or Home Depot but this (and City Mill in Kaimuki) is more convenient so I don't mind paying a little more. The issues are their selection and their horrible return policy. It is very easy to let a few weeks go by before remembering to return something. At the 4 week mark, they will not accept a return (even if it's brand new, unopened, and you have the receipt), not even for credit or to exchange for something else. read more

Shopping for hardware has never been easier. All I needed to buy were two sprinkler heads for my mom's yard. Upon entering the store, I was greeted by Tyler, who asked if I needed any help. I told him what I needed and he walked me straight to the sprinkler heads. Viola. Now that is a great example of customer service that I never experience at Home Depot or City Mill. read more

Oh... and don't worry if you're not interested in the things Hardware stores sell... the end caps seem to have no laws that govern them? I'm not a DIY-fixer-upper by any means but I only ever come here as a favor to my grandfather & he sure is. He loves this place for everything from trash bags to lawn mower repairs & my guess is because next to City Mill a little further down Waialae Ave, this is the only home repair type store in Kaimuki area. I, personally, was very disappointed with the bluntness of the workers we encountered at our last visit. My grandpa recently had to drop off his lawn mower for repairs & the guy helping him consistently gave short answers & had that tone of voice that gave me the feeling of "I really rather not be here dealing with you right now but this is the bare minimum of politeness I'm gonna muster just so I can get through this & you can leave". I immediately picked up on this & was pretty shocked. I felt like even the female clerk that helped us at the other counter after for regular purchases was missing that genuine, caring aloha vibe that I've come to expect from every business I visit. My grandpa didn't seem to notice; maybe he did but he just doesn't care or is used to it because he comes here so often. Either way, I won't be coming back anytime soon unless he needs something & I'll stay in the car from now on. read more

Needed to get some aluminum soffit vents for my house....looked all over the internet and check out hardware stores in town....No one had them...then I called Kaimuki Ace Hardware and VOILA!!! Yes! They have them. Since my house is 3 stories high, it is very difficult to change them when they rust....We replaced them once when we got the house painted and I thought they were aluminum... but obviously they weren't because they rusted and then we found birds nesting in our ceiling! These aluminum vents are not supposed to rust. Before going there I called to find out if they even carried them. A young man answered and he was very nice and helpful and was able to get me all that I needed. He offered to set them aside so that I was sure to get what I needed. (I had previously called Home Depot and the guys there just grunt!) When I got there, Gerald ...he also helped me look for the nails to secure them. I love shopping at locally owned businesses...they are part of our neighborhood! read more

Been going there for years, but ONLY when I'm in a hurry and on the clock. Overpriced... I would never use this place unless my customer is paying the bill. The main thing I like about Ace Kaimuki is the location is convenient and rarely do I have to wait in line. Also, the hired help is generally helpful and polite (the owners... not so much). The workers used to follow you around the store like you were wearing prison stripes or something, but maybe they recognize me now. Otherwise, the place is OVERPRICED with a limited selection. Half the time I go there they don't have what I need and I wind up wasting my time and going to City Mill anyhow. Last, but not least, irritating return policy. Even unopened items with receipt, you'll guarantee have to jump through hoops and deal with the owners, who I find to be a bit on the snooty side. read more

Best service out of all hardware stores on island. You go to Ace for the service - and for me, service still matter. I recently went to Ace with a checklist of 10 items - not expecting to find all 10 - especially keys, certain batteries, plumbing item, electrical and other stuff. The employee greeted me and he walked me to each one of the items - all of which they had - I had no idea that they duplicate keys. I was out of there in 10 minutes. Great customer service. I had a problem with nut-grass. I tried everything. I spoke to Wes at Ace-Kaimuki. He got me the exact product and applicator I needed to finally tackle this project. He also helps me with many other projects. I especially like this store because it is one of the last "hardware" stores that knows the value of customer service. they have all the products you need for that "do it yourself" project at good prices. This little hardware store has outstanding customer service. I have never walked in the store without a rep approaching me promptly. They know their stock well. It doesn't get five stars because the stock is limited - I come here a lot, and a few times and either they don't have what I want at all, or it's sold out. Also, their hours are fairly limited. But compared to the City Mill just a couple of blocks away, the customer service is much more helpful, so it's now the first place I stop. read more

I stopped by Ace Hardware in need of some plastidip spray for a project I'm working on. Finding the location was very easy because I just so happened to be in the area anyway and they have an unobstructed location right off Waialae Ave. with their own parking lot in front. +1 for parking. As soon as I walked into the store, I was greeted with hellos and was approached by a very friendly staff member asking if there was anything I needed help with. I usually turn down this offer because I like to check out a place when I'm there, but I was in a bit of a rush, so I asked her for guidance to the Plastidip. She knew exactly where it was and was knowledgeable about the product (she was able to tell me about her boyfriend's experience working with the material). I made my selection, checked out in front (no line) and was on my way. All in all a very positive and quick trip to the hardware store. read more

Awesome customer service. I had to get my car key (with the chip) replaced and they were super helpful and friendly. I actually wanted to get two keys because I was down to my spare but they were out of stock. They took my number down and said they would call when they got more in. Went to ace hardware to buy a flapper for my company toilet. I was a little uneasy because altough my dads a plumber I'm a girl and know very little about toilets, only that the toilet kept running and I needed a new flapper. I went to ace and asked a gentleman for help, which he recommended a universal flapper for 4 dollars and sorta told me how to put in on. I've received excellent service every time I've come here on a home repair project. In the past year, I've fixed my own toilet a couple times, replaced fittings under my kitchen sink, and changed led lightbulbs in my ceiling fixture. I should add that I do not know anything about home repair and am doing most of these things for the first time. I do a little research before I go to the store, but I'm still never quite sure what to buy. The staff always helps me and they've always had on hand exactly what I needed. Then the cashiers are ready and waiting to ring up the order. Today there was one person in line ahead of me and the second cashier took my order so I didn't have to wait even one minute. On the way out the door one of the staff guys who helped me, took a few minutes to give me more information about my purchase. Wonderful shopping experience. Honestly - do people need 82 choices of dirt in 16 different size options from on to metric ton? No! Do you understand why Lowes + Home Depot both decided to build back to back to back with City Mill down by Iwile? I don't know either. It really does seem that the days of True Value and Ace small stores are over. I was really surprized when Ace opened in Kaimuki and remodeled while I was living there. I remember as a kid going with my dad to Ace to buy just 3 lbs of grass seed. We didn't need 5 metric tons of grass and they had just what was needed. Here Ace still has it seems just the basics but that is really all you need- home repair this or that and the 1 thing that will just go on doing the trick this time really is the just what you need anyway- there is no need for a mile long isle of stuff in a big box when 1 is all you were going to buy. And then for the really big special needs they were already willing to order for it to be brought in - which seems more and more the norm now at big boxes too that they run out of the stuff you need but got plenty of stuff you don't - Ace really does have that that is used up most and is in demand- has to be done that way - small store people cant learn 50 million items - just the ones that people need the most and they they go and buy a soda too and go home happy. Any who- pople at this Ace in Kaimuki really do seem to want to be helpful and willing to help you out- I live in an apartment and really I only need the 1 or 2 things I came looking for- I don't need a grand tour of a building I can't furnish. I prefer Ace Hardware over City Mill any day. The people working there are always very helpful and knowledgeable about the products they sell unlike their competitors. I only wish the store was bigger so they could carry more items. Also, their prices are usually very reasonable especially if you're able to catch them during their big monthly sales. But aside from that, they usually have instore specials. I made sure to apply for an Ace rewards card online because I got 1000 free points from doing that. We're in the middle of painting our place so we'll need all the hardware help, savings, and incentives we can get. read more

I live close to downtown and it is easier for me to go to City Mill or Home Depot. So why do I go to Ace Hardware? Because the two big stores don't carry those hard to find bathroom accessories such as wall mounts for hand held showers. Recently, the big box store had no shower hoses available. City Mill only carries the small 5 ft. hoses. Twice both big stores were out of water supply lines in the size that I needed, but not Ace Hardware. Had a Coupon for 50% off one item. Found a wear ever pan set with no barcode price on the rack or a price on the case. Asked a helper what the cost was and he radioed and it was $29.95 just under the cost. There is a limit of $30.00 for the one item. Get to the front register and the man says it is an in store special. Not!!! I have a video of them with no price tags on their stuff . At the register they said I needed a rewards card. Not happy with this store. I got the discount on a HDMI junction that I really don't need. Next discount and I am going to Kaneohe ace, grabbing the flyer and then head to lowes or Home Depot to price match. Ace probably likes that anyway. Really didn't need. The pans either. read more

I have no idea how this place is still open. It's seems like every time I've gone in there, I've left, without the item I need, and with less time than I started with. And, if I do find what I need there it costs 30% more than the same item at City Mill down the street, which is already 30% higher than Home Depot, which is already about 2x mainland pricing. I've been going to this Ace Hardware store for over 20 years. Since I live in the Kaimuki area, this was my go to store and I would be there several times a week to get items I needed for any number of projects. In the past several years their attitude has gone through a drastic change and now I only go there if I am pressed for time and absolutely have to. It's one thing to ask a customer if they need help finding something when they walk into the store. It's an entirely different thing when you tell them no thanks, you know what you need, but then they follow you around the store like they think you are going steal something and keep asking just what it is you are looking for. I know I am not the only one who has noticed this, several of my neighbors have said the exact same thing. A piece of advice, if I come into your store and say I know what I am looking for and want to look around, please just leave me be to do my shopping. If you do that, chances are I will end up purchasing more than just what I initially came for, and will be a repeat customer. If your people are continually pestering me and watching me suspiciously, more than likely I will just leave and go down the street to City Mill, or I will quickly buy only what I came for and leave as quickly as I can. As I said up top, this used to be my go to hardware store, not I only go there out of desperation or if I am in a rush. After all City Mill is only 2 minutes down the road. read more

Normally the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would say that today was a little bit of an exception. The gal behind the register was a little helpful but I felt like I was bothering her with my questions. Unfortunately the other associate turned to her for answers. She seemed a little unhappy. I also mentioned to the other associate that I had received the last flyer in the mail AFTER the sale date, just to let them know. She didn't seem to care one bit about that. The reaction I would have expected was along the lines of, Oh really? I'll let management know... or something like that.. because if I got it late that means others probably did as well.. oh well... Took my Dad's old Kawasaki string trimmer that hadn't been run in about 10 years and Ace's mechanic got it running like brand new! They now are a Stihl dealer and you can be sure that I'll bring my chainsaw and brush cutter here for a much needed service! read more
