I was in search of a new seamstress to do some pants alterations. Whether I'm fat or skinny,…read moreunfortunately for me since I've vertically challenged, whenever I purchase a new pair of pants, I will need some kinda alterations done to the pants leg. For the last 5 years I've been going to the Sheridan Laundry Center to get my pants altered, as my Yelp buddy - Bruddah Peter Y. was da one who hooked me up with a great tip on that place (I used to pay $10 bucks per pants). Unfortunately for me, since Covid-19 happened towards the end of 2019, and businesses having to pause & shut down briefly in 2020, I noticed that the nice Korean lady who used to do all my alterations work at Sheridan Laundry Center had her work hours cut. I guess some business never fully recovered from the Covid-19 pandemic, and although most places have learned to live with the new "normal" - sadly, the alterations dept. at Sheridan Laundry Center is no more (insert SAD Panda Face here). While searching on Yelp for a new place to get pants alterations, I came across a wonderful review written by my Yelp buddy - Bruddah Craig T. of this business called - "Silk Boutique". Where is Silk Boutique located???? If you know where the First Hawaiian Bank in Makiki is, this little alteration shop is just across the street going ewa, just a few doors down from Auntie Pasto's. I found street parking & walked up to the door. A lady who was working there opened the door & greeted me. I asked the nice lady - "how much was it to alter my Michael Kors pants, and another special lined pants" I had purchased? She in turned told me $12 smackaz per pants. Shoots! I told here.........went to put on my pants so that she could mark it off for alterations. Upon paying my $24.00 cash for 2 pair of pants, she in turn told me to come back on Friday, a really fast 2 day turn around!!! Awesome-sauce!!! Picked up my pants, and I could clearly see that the workmanship was steller! No complaints at all! I think I found my new place to get my pants altered!!!

tl;dr: fast, quality work at very reasonable prices…read more Took some pants to Jin for hemming and a shirt that just didn't fit quite right in the arms. I put on the pants for her, she measured out/confirmed where I wanted them to hit on me (just off the floor), and pinned them. Great - I didn't expect any issues with a simple hem on pants. It was $15 for a very nice double hem in similar style to the original. Then, we got to the shirt. She questioned my request to make the armholes just a little bigger (they were a little tight and constricting on a sleeveless blouse, but I had kept the shirt bc the bigger size was too big everywhere else, and it was on sale so I figured I could have the armholes adjusted). I explained this best I could to her, and she pointed out that the right armhole was actually ok. She was worried that she shouldn't make them much bigger. Then, we both looked at the left armhole, and it was quite snug. She said, let's look at it when you take it off. She compared the two, and indeed, the left opening was not the same as the right. So, we agreed that she should make the left the same as the right. I figured this strange request would be pricier than a routine-type request, but it was only $5! She filled out the slip, and told me I could pick them up the very next day! I expected at least a week wait, if not more. I was able to catch her right before she took her lunch the next day to get my pants and shirt. Both look great. I will definitely be back as I tend to have a lot of alterations done on my clothes.

I don't recommend parking in the lot in this building, Harbor Village, because it is very narrow, not well lit, and dirty. She is open till 6pm Monday to Saturday and 3pm Sundays. Beware this area in Chinatown is similar to skid row or Tenderloin area in San Francisco with lots of homeless as the River of Mission and City's Public Housing is nearby.
