I've taken multiple clothing pieces to Lucy for the past few years and I will continue to do so. Clothing that ranges from dresses, denim, blouses, rompers, to skirts. Her quality of work is great and her prices are reasonable. Especially with her quick turnaround on timing, she is very efficient. I value her honesty and transparency when it comes to whether or not she can complete the task. On my last visit, I decided to take my wedding dress in because it needed some major hemming. My dress is made of 100% silk organza, which is a very delicate fabric. Lucy was honest with me that her machine may not be equipped to handle this type of fabric but after assessing the material and my ask, she let me know that she felt she could take it on. I was very relieved and she assured me that she would not say she could do a job if she had any hesitation she couldn't. I had gone in to see her about two months before my wedding date and she asked when I would need the dress by. Since I was planning to lose more weight, she asked that I return to see her for measurements a few weeks before the date. She was kind enough to take down my contact information in the case an emergency comes up and she needs to reach me to help me do the dress earlier (i.e. if she has to take an unplanned trip or any situation where she'd be off island). This definitely wasn't an expectation I had, but I was truly grateful to her for this reassurance... especially since this was a very important event to me. Lucy thinks and plans ahead and really cares about the work she does for her clients and she takes the time to listen to what you're asking for. I had been taking my clothes for the past several years to Kailua Sewing, a small shop on Uluniu, near where I live. Unfortunately, they closed on the last 6 months, so I found Designer Alterations in Kaneohe on Yelp and called them. It's a one person shop (like Kailua Sewing), so if she's busy, she can't answer and you can't leave a message, so just have to call back. They're located next door to Bun Mi, a great little Vietnamese Street Food shop in Kaneohe. There is a small parking lot with about twenty stalls, so it's convenient, but it can get fairly busy at times. I had three shorts that needed work; two of them needed stitches repaired near our in the zipper, and one needed a new button. You need to take the clothes there so she can look at it to give you a cost, then you decide if you want to have it done. If not, there's no cost, but if you do, then you pay up front (in cash) and leave them there with a date for pickup. My shorts took a week to complete, and when I picked them up, they were perfect! The seams were fixed, and she found and sewed on a button, matching the color of the shorts. It cost about $12, including the button, and I'm happy with the results. I guess from now on, I'll just have to drive a bit further over to Kaneohe anytime I need sewing work done on my clothes. read more

Literally the sweetest soul. I always come here to get my pants hemmed. I came in with 2 brand new pairs of pants with the tags still on. She recommended I take them home to wash and dry to get the initial shrink. Thank goodness she did bc one of the pants actually shrunk enough so I no longer needed to hem them. She mentioned people came in and didn't take her advice, hemmed the brand new pants, washed and dried and found the hem to be too short. There's no going back once it's hemmed, take her advice. Literally down the road, about a 5 minute drive, it couldn't have been more convenient. Though I don't live on the windward side, I have been coming here since I started working nearby. The service is so lovely and the prices are really terrific. Cash only upon drop-off, I think, so don't forget to stop by the ATM on the way over. I'm short and stocky and need to have all of my pants altered. They do so well here, never a mistake made. I also have had way more complicated alterations done here. I had the seam and waist released from a couple of pairs of dress slacks after I gained weight and it was so nice to still be able to get use from those. More recently, I have also had suit coats adjusted -- the length as well as the sleeves. With the complicated lining and stitching, those are surely not easy adjustments to make but my clothes always looks like it was purchased this way after the alterations are done. I have seen lots of prom and wedding dresses come in and out of the shop too so I assume the word is out that things get done well here. I 100% recommend this spot! read more

Words cannot describe how thankful I am for Lucy and her amazing alterations! Lucy came to rescue after I had been dealing with a stressful experience working with another alterations shop. I had already spent hundreds of dollars on alterations and had to visit multiple times, but still felt that the dress wasn't fitting right just 3 weeks before my wedding day. It was much too loose and the bustle on my wedding dress was heavy and hung off to the side, pulling the entire dress down. I cannot recommend this place enough! I brought a dress into Lucy on a Thursday (August 2022) that I needed shortened by the following week. I walked in without an appointment and she was able to see me immediately. She had one dressing room and had me come out to the lobby once dressed to apply pins in front of a big mirror. I took a few inches off my dress and asked her to make it touch the floor without dragging. She delivered! (See pictures) The total cost was $50 and she actually had it done early! (5 days) The turnaround time is 1 week and she is cash only. I had originally brought in 2 dresses for alteration, but she was very upfront that she would not be able to alter one due to the material and way it was sewn. I really appreciated the honesty and that she was upfront about it. The building she's in seems a little sketchy from the outside, but you won't regret coming here! Promise!Thank you Lucy! Lucy is so wonderful & I would highly recommend visiting her for your alteration needs! I brought in a jumpsuit with pant legs that were too long on me and the torso was a bit loose.
