I always come to Linh's for pant hemming. I'm short and don't have a sewing machine anymore, but even when I did, Linh's still did a better job. The hems are clean, consistent, and exactly how I want them every time. Helpful tip: if you already know your inseam (and it's accurate), checkout goes much faster. Turnaround is quick too. My alterations are usually ready within a couple of days. I've been in when they're busy with things like prom dress alterations, so they clearly handle a wide range of alterations. Parking can be tricky, but I've been lucky so far, knock on wood. Will definitely keep coming back. read more

I was quite lucky to have someone in my family who was very good at working the sewing machine. I wish I had more interest in truly learning it when I was younger because it's a very useful skill! Especially since overall craftsmanship isn't the same as before. Linh's Alterations was highly recommended, so let's give it a try! I knew where this place was as it has been at the same location along Ke'eaumoku St, between Kinau and Beretania and next to Mai Lan Vietnamese restaurant for decades! There's dedicated parking stalls on the side of the building, in the same lot as the Texaco gas station. Look for the Keeaumoku Pawn / Linh's Alteration sign. It's the same place! But it's definitely more so an alteration place than pawn shop. My wife has been here several times for repairs and alterations. This time I needed repairs! One of my newer Aloha Shirts had a seam splitting after just two washes, and it was all sold out at stores and online, so I wasn't able to exchange! The inside was clean and spacious. Linh was very friendly, nice, and an excellent listener. She definitely has very sharp eyes. Also, she is quite efficient! My shirt was finished in just a couple of days. Shirt was clean, neatly folded, and stitched very nicely. It was $15 plus tax, which was definitely reasonable. It wasn't a big area and it might've been a "simple" fix. Overall, I was happy with my shirt and the whole process, and will definitely bring any clothes that need repairs or alterations to Linh's! I came here because of all the good reviews but I was shocked by the price I was quoted to do some alterations on a romper. $130!!!!!!!!! To hem the bottoms and make the top 2 straps shorter. I went to my usual tailor on Liliha street and she did the same alterations for $27. She even went above and beyond and opened up 1 shoulder strap with hooks to make it easier to get in/ out of. This shop is a rip off. The lady is nice tho. read more

I went to Linhs to alter my wedding dress after reading positive reviews. I wanted somewhere fast and affordable that could do some alterations - at first I was thinking to just do a simple length alteration but I ended up adding extra design and a bustle. It did add a level of complexity to the project and thought the pricing was fair. Linh did a good job listening to my needs and because my fabric was really soft and dainty, she suggested certain things that would work best. I went in for two fittings - and she did the job in two phases. It took around two weeks to complete. I added some ruching to my dress which I am super happy with as it gave the dress extra detail that I was looking for. She also hemmed my moms dress which was pretty straightforward. I am excited to wear my dress! Thank you Linh! Tip: Make an appointment to visit as she is very busy and the shop is small! I was planning to walk in but if you happen to come when she is busy, you'll have to wait. It's best to call ahead and reserve a time so she can give you her full attention. I have a dry-fit t-shirt for a sports team and both arm hems came undone and they repaired it seamlessly! I kept putting it off afraid of what I experienced elsewhere, and finally brought it to Linh's on Keeaumoku & prayed for the best. So how panicked should I be if I got my wedding dress 3 weeks before my wedding? Ha ha ha!!!! I was very very picky on a dress, I know I didn't want a traditional white dress - I wanted a black dress. And none of the shops here were able to accommodate me, and if they could they told me from start to finish it would be over a year. So, I ordered my dress online with an international company. I know, I know .... Gotta trust right? Anywho, I had sent in my measurements when I placed my order. But, when I finally got it - the dress was a little bigger ... either I measured wrong or I lost weight from the STRESS!!! I panicked and started looking for someone who could alter the dress in the short time frame I had. No one could!!!! I was crying!! Until my girlfriend told me about Linh's .. she takes her dresses to her to get them fixed. I called and made an appointment with her. Crossed my fingers that she could do it in time. When I got there I was so nervous, not knowing what to expect. They had me go into the dressing room and put the dress on. Linh's reaction to the dress - I wasn't expecting that. She literally gushed over it. She said it was her first black wedding dress. She did her magic with her pins and adjusted everything!!! It looked amazing!!! Then she asked when I needed it done by .... I told her in 2 1/2 weeks ... I was so scared she was going to say that she couldn't do it. But!!!! She agreed to do it as a rush and I had to pay extra for that (which I had no problem with). I don't remember how much I paid for everything (it wasn't cheap) but I have no regrets. I feel like this business could benefit a lot from updating how they organize their tailor jobs. I came in nearly 3x more than what they quoted for my fittings, and I still felt as though some of my requests were not fulfilled. I came in to alter my wedding dress, but it appears she was confusing my dress with another customers wedding dress. At one point, she brought the seams of my dress in when I specifically came in to get my dress taken out. As the professional, I trusted her opinion and recommendations with what needed to be done with my dress, but on my wedding day, nearly all the alterations she made were falling apart. I received a classic bustle and a new hook at the end of my zipper, both of which broke easily. The day of my final fitting, I felt 10x less confident in my dress than when I came in. She added thick breast pads and failed to hem my dress to the right length. And even with the breast pads, the breast section of my wedding dress was still baggy. My original request was to take the breast section in, and bring the rest of the dress out to fit my proportions. After voicing my concerns, she fixed the breast section of my dress, but still did not hem my dress and I ended up constantly tripping and falling on my wedding day, which was exactly what I was concerned about (mind you I brought my dress in more than two months prior to the MONTH of my wedding--not even the wedding day) I'm sure Linh is a great seamstress, but this business needs to improve their organization. My wedding dress was supposed to be the one thing in my wedding planning that I wasn't supposed to be stressed about but for whatever reason, it became the biggest stressor leading up to my big day as it was my own confidence and appearance that was being messed with. I still hate what was done to my dress and my wedding photos are a constant reminder of how I looked. read more

I appreciate the quality and quickness provided. I went in with 8 pairs of pants all needing to be hemmed at least 3", and they were able to do it within a week. We also had a pair of men's trousers that needed pocket repair. Those were completed and I can't even see where they were damaged. Linh is the best!! Came to her a few times for minor alterations on pants and they came out great. More recently I came to her for my wedding dress and am beyond happy with her work and all she did for me! I scheduled a fitting with her and went over all the things I wanted done: hem, tightening of the straps and bust area, wrist loop for my train, and adding a slit. When she called saying it was ready (which was quicker than I thought!) I came back to try it on and realized I also wanted to adjust the shape of the dress to be a bit more fitted on the hips/butt area making more of a mermaid shape. Even though we were cutting it pretty close to the wedding day, she assured me that she was able to do it and just wanted me to be happy with it. The end result was perfection! They even took out a small stain (thanks to my niece lol) on my dress. My dress was perfect thanks to Linh! She's very professional, super sweet and very attention to detail! read more

Let's begin with first impressions. I don't know who of the married couple decided on exterior/interior design but it gave me an idea the detailed service I was to receive. They are up front about any risks or disclaimers regarding what could happen to certain materials and the time the work will take. Now we talk about the Seamstress who was even more fascinating than the stores interior. When she stepped out to greet me she donned crystal studded slip ons ,Peggy Bundy would envy. Her custom made mask also had crystals on it. I almost died when she got her pin tray as it was on a 3 ft stand and guess ..... Covered in the same stones as her Slip ons. Everything about this mom pop shop is everything I remember as a kid when we had more Tailors and Seamstresses. I've had alterations done here ranging from hemming jumpsuits to taking in blazers. They've always been on the pricier side but I was always satisfied with their work and I'm willing to pay for quality. Recently, I brought in two very simple sheath dresses for straight, non complicated hemming. I was shocked to hear I would be charged $40 per dress and it would take two weeks to complete. If I wanted them back one week sooner, I'd have to pay an additional $20.00 per dress. Wow. That is a lot of money and time for something so simple. I guess they sensed my uncertainty and offered a 10% discount. That made me feel like they just threw out $40 to see if I'd bite and pay it. Still, $36 is too much for a cheap dress from Nordstrom rack. I was then told they're busy because it's prom season. February is not prom season in Hawaii. If you have expensive clothing items like a ball gown or business suit which requires precise tailoring, I would say this place is worth a try. However, for simple hems ... this place is a straight up rip off. I don't like writing negative reviews but this really one got me! read more

I can't believe I hadn't written a review for Linh yet!! I had my wedding dress altered here for my wedding. It was a trumpet styled dress and was too big and too long. I am AMAZED by the job Linh did since there is beading and embellishments ALL over the body of the dress and had a ruffled organza bottom. I had a few tailors turn me away due to the complexity of the dress to alter. I was worried about the dress and fittings since it would not be simple to redo the width and length if the dress didn't fit a week before the wedding. She had to redo a LOT of beading and embellishments once it was tailored down and shorten the ruffles which I can't even understand how that was all done. Linh did an ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL job and you can't tell it was tailored! She was very communicative about the schedule of the fittings and it all worked out perfectly. Chose to go here after researching alterations places because it was closer to me and they had "same day alterations" which I was looking for. I have only needed same day once before but that was when I lived on the mainland and there were no issues with same day service. I went into Linh's shop on Keeaumoku as soon as they opened to give myself more time. When I asked them for same day service, they let out a huge sigh and actually scolded me, telling me I need more time. If that's the case don't advertise same day alterations. That's false advertisement. And all I needed was a simple hem. I haven't gone back here and I never will. They were extremely rude. I found someone else not too far, and although her prices are a little more, she is much kinder and more personable than these people. read more

I brought my grandmother's 50 year old mu'u mu'u to Linh's to be altered so that I could wear it to a friends special Luau. I am 5'8 and slim and my grandmother was at least 2-3 x my size, not big but just bigger than me so I was swimming in the mu'u when I brought it in! She did an absolutely fantastic job creating a one of a kind dress that I will treasure forever! This vintage material was beautiful, bright, colorful and one of a kind that I have never seen before. Very great place to get your things tailored or if you just want something thats broken fixed. I've had things tailored and sewed back due to loose threads. May be a little pricey but as they people who know what they're doing and excel at a high level comes with a price. They do share parking with the gas station next door so park there and feel free to walk over. Absolutely wonderful!! I really appreciate that she was so honest and so knowledgeable!! She did my non-traditional wedding dress and even though I just went in for a hem, she made a suggestion that made it a lot better. There was something in the hem making it stiffer (I guess it's common for longer gowns with trains). she talked me into removing it and hemming the layers separately. I was skeptical but she was right! First off, this cut the price in half, and I was so impressed with her honesty to talk me into a cheaper service. But way more importantly, it made the dress have more movement and a better look. It was a huge improvement. It was so gorgeous and the stitch work was very fine. I absolutely LOOOVVVEEED the result. When I first bought the dress, I had been a little unsure about it, but after the hem work I couldn't be happier. I wish a had a before/after photo. Appointments are a breeze when made online, they're all in 1 hour time increments & you get a confirmation email almost immediately after. Showed up for our appointment & Met Linh, she's extremely friendly & KNOWS HER STUFF. She knows what looks good & will alter your clothes accordingly. We brought my husband's tux and a few suits (for our wedding) here & they all needed a lot of work. She was able to rush it for us & did a seamless job! Came here to get my wedding dress altered. Brought it in 2 mo before wedding for a quote and was told that it was too early to start alterations and to bring it back THREE WEEKS before the wedding day. Okay, so I come back when she told me to. She talked me into letting her put in a corset back. Big mistake! The satin ribbon she created made the back look like a wad of bubblegum on my light tulle skirt. She told me to come back one week before the wedding, no other fittings, and then she had to delay it to three days before the wedding, and guess what... It still didn't fit correctly, and she blamed it on ME for "gaining weight" (I hadn't). I felt overwhelmed and teared up, wasn't throwing a fit or anything, just felt a little sad. She lectured me and told me I was being a bad daughter to my mom. She told me I needed to watch what I ate and lose weight to become "beautiful" for my wedding (again, I hadn't changed in only 3 weeks). And then she acted like she was going to do me such a favor by fixing my dress in the next day. UM. Excuse me??? SO MANY RED FLAGS. Take your business somewhere else and save yourself the trauma. read more
