I've been impressed with Sook Hi's work for over a decade. She always goes the extra mile. Once, I took my husband and his suit in for alterations. She could have altered the suit as requested but she immediately told us that we should buy a new one in a more current style. Lol! My whole family went to sook hi's for alterations for my wedding, which included two suit alterations, one dress hem, and an aloha shirt tailoring. The shop is cozy and no frills, but so conveniently located and has incredibly fast turnover. All of our pieces were finished within 2 weeks (mind you, her studio is packed with like-pieces) and finished within excellent quality. Her prices are incredibly fair, and she even hemmed a pair of dress pants for free while she waited for my brother to try on his suit jacket. You don't need a reservation, she takes walk-ins but if there's someone there already you might have to wait a couple minutes. You can call ahead if you want, but don't need to. Very fair pricing (in my opinion, not expensive at all). She hemmed two dresses for me for my elopement and was fast and professional, and did very quality work. Also, as a plus, she's just a really nice lady. Note: it's my understanding that she DOES NOT usually do wedding dresses or gowns. She only did mine because they are very simple and don't have layers or anything fancy. I'm eloping so my dresses are honestly more like regular dresses just in white. read more

I can't recommend Sook Hi's Alterations enough! Sook Hi is incredibly sweet and runs this small business all by herself. I recently needed the length of a bridesmaid dress hemmed, and she finished it in just one hour! She texted me to pick it up, and I was blown away by her speed and the quality of her work. One thing to note is that her hours can fluctuate since she's the only person running the business. Sometimes she stays late, and other times she leaves early, so I'd recommend calling ahead to make sure she's there. Her prices vary depending on the type of alteration, amount of fabric and difficulty but my friend compared her prices to another local spot for a dress alteration and Sook Hi's was more reasonably priced. Was nervous to get some things altered since it was my first time doing so but I had a dress, shorts, and a skirt that all needed shortening so I saw Suki's place on Google and decided to go to her for my alternation needs. There's a small, free parking lot in front of the building where her store is located that you can park in. Her store is on the second floor on the left. The process was super simple and Suki was super nice to work with. You go in and she asks what you have. Then you try each item on for her and show her what you want done and she pins it all up super quickly. Then she writes down the cost of everything and you pay upfront and she lets you know how long it'll take for all the items to get done. My shorts and skirt were pretty simple alterations and cost around $25 each. I had one item that was a little more work because the frilly hem had to be specially preserved and taken up and the back area had to be taken in. That special hem cost around $75 and it was $25 for taking in the back. If you pay with card there's an extra fee so if you want to avoid the fee you can just use cash. For all three items it took just a week and they were all done right on time! When your items are done Suki will text you and let you know that you can come in to get them. All of my alterations turned out perfectly and as expected! I will definitely be back for any future alterations! read more

Suki, the sole proprietor and tailor at Sook Hi's alteration, is a gem. She is competent, honest, helpful, responsive, professional, and cordial. She is honest in advising you when you do not need to alter part of a garment. She is helpful when you are undecided about what looks better and suggests an alteration for your consideration (with no pressure). She is responsive when you ask her if she could rush one part of the work and she tries to accommodate your request. I highly recommend her as your tailor. January 8 and 10 were my first experience with her. On the 8th, I brought her a navy blazer for possible shortening of the sleeve length and a new black blazer of the same style for finishing the cuffs; a pair of dress pants for letting out the waist and hips; and 7 casual pants for shortening of the legs. Since she was about to leave for a vacation starting January 11, she asked if I could wait until her return for her to complete the work. I asked her if she could sew on the buttons to finish the cuffs of the new black blazer, whose sleeve length she advised me was perfect, and leave the rest until her return. She agreed and said she would have the blazer ready on the 10th. I was uncomfortable with the navy blazer's sleeve length but wasn't sure what I should do. Using pins, she proposed shortening the sleeve by a certain amount. The proposed length looked much better and I welcomed her suggestion. The dress pants were too tight around the waist and hips. She advised me that they could be let out 1" (at most). The casual pants, all of the same style, were sold at a standard length, requiring the buyer to finish the hem with the shoes to be worn. She suggested an appropriate length. When I returned on the 10th to pick up the black blazer, to my surprise, she had completed the work on all 10 garments, despite my desire to spare her the rush before her vacation. That is responsive and more. It turns out that what she recommended regarding the navy blazer's sleeve length made the sleeve the same length as the new black blazer's and each sleeve now extends to the heel of my palm (the maximum appropriate sleeve length per Proper Cloth). Perfect. The dress slacks are now comfortable to wear and the 7 casual pants' hemlines are appropriate with the stitching 1" above the hemline as requested. Her professionalism and cordiality make her someone with whom it is easy to work. Having never met her before the 8th, she immediately put me at ease and made me comfortable in entrusting my blazers to her care. Having not used a tailor in decades, I cannot speak to the benefit-to-cost ratio of her work compared to other tailors'. Her prices seem reasonable to me--$20 to finish the hem of each pair of casual pants, $30 to sew four buttons on each sleeve of the new black blazer (an expensive Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Italian-made, wool blazer), $70 to shorten the length of and move the four buttons on the navy blazer (of the same brand, style, etc. as the black), and $30 to adjust the waist and hips of the dress slacks. Suki works extremely long days. She is blessed with an overabundance of work because of the conscientiousness she brings to her work and the many customers whom she has satisfied by it. I called first to see when i could drop it off and I'm glad I did because she was closing early the day I called (and she was heading out of town for a trip that weekend). After confirming with Suki, I stopped by her shop the next day and tried the dress on while she added some pins to the hem. She also helped me figure out how to tie the straps on the dress in a more flattering way. I left, expecting the dress to be done the next day, but to my surprise I received a text an hour later saying my dress was ready! I was still in the area so i was able to swing by and pick up the dress the same day: Amazing! The fee was quite reasonable considering the lightning fast turnaround and the double layers in the skirt of the dress. The length turned out perfectly, not too short and not too long.
