my AMAZING krunch roll
Amber C.

i'm not sure what all the reviews about bad service are for, every time i've come in here, it's the same couple running the store, and they are so sweet and kind. my pickup order is always ready on time and they always include ginger and wasabi with my roll! their krunch roll is my favorite crunch roll i've had thus far! and pretty cheap price for sushi, especially in this area of socal! i will 100% keep coming back here to support these great folks and their business.

Nice local place in a strip mall. Friendly service. Delicious food that came out quick. Moderate prices. Lots to choose from. Limited seating. Plenty of parking.

I stopped here one night after an appointment in Orange. It was late and close to closing, so I was the only seated guest, but I noticed they get a lot of to-go orders. It was an older couple, I'm guessing it was the owners. They were friendly. Everything I had was fresh. I also ordered the hot tea, and the woman told me it was her own special blend. It was delicious and I drank the whole pot before leaving! Thank you for a great dinner!

This place is a gem! I've only been here twice in the last month and I've been impressed both times. When you arrive, you're greeted by a nice lady at the counter who takes your order. Both my boyfriend and I have gotten poke bowls and the fish is fresh! The serving size is also decent keeping me full for hours. This time around, the lady at the counter was kind by giving us complimentary miso soups! Can't go wrong with that. I'm excited to come back again! P.S. The restroom is located in the back behind the counter and through the kitchen.

Wednesday August 13, 2025 I visited KAI Sushi in Orange with my wife and our baby. It had been years since we been there. After months of not being able to eat sushi due to her pregnancy, my wife asked me to take her there. I remember the place had a great ambience, was clean and most important good food. We got there around 7:30pm, the place was empty, only the owner and a cook were there. We placed our order and waited at our table. About 20 min later a girl came in and placed an order for 1 single sushi roll and asked if she could eat it there, the owner of the restaurant said "no, we close soon" (service hours are from 10am to 9pm) It was only around 8pm. In my opinion she had plenty of time to eat 1 sushi roll before 9pm. Our food arrived at our table. At first glance it looked good, the taste was good but when we asked for hot souse the owner made a face and gave us just a tiny saucer for the 4 rolls we had ordered. That was something we were willing to overlook. We finish our food and I went up to the register to pay for my meal. My total for 4 rolls and 2 can sodas came up to $69.50. I pay $70. The owner with a very demanding tone as she game me my ¢50 change asked "you don't leave tip?". I said I'll leave it at the table. I only had $2 cash in my wallet so I asked my wife if she had any cash on her. She said she had a $10 in the car, I asked my wife to wait by the table. I placed the $2 on the table and stared to walk to exit and go to the car to get the other $10. Before I could set a foot outside I hear the lady saying to my wife in a very upset tone "only $2!! That's it $2?!? You pay $70 and only give $2" My wife looked at me as if asking for help. I said "excuse me? Why are you upset!" I never told her I was gonna go get more money from the car. "That all I have in cash, I'm sorry. But if you don't want them that's okay too". She extended her hand and said "here, you go now, never come back" as she handed back my $2. Now I understand why the place was so empty, when in the past was always busy. First, telling a customer that she can't eat there because they are closing soon, when she had more than one hour till closing time. Second, demanding a tip. I always tip and my intention was to do that, but I guess she didn't have the patience to wait and find out. As she requested I will never go back to that place. There's a lot of sushi restaurants better than KAI in OC, find one, be happy and stay away from KAI.

The pieces are so large it's hard to eat in one bite. At least for me. $36 UNI (SEA URCHIN): this is also pricey but is always one of my favorite bites! Comes with 2 pieces of sushi. Once the whole party was seated & our order was taken, we received our delicious ginger salad and miso soup quickly. When our chef arrived he was ready to put on a show! He was so fun, engaging and very genuine. All of the food was amazing. I got the filet mignon steak w/ fried rice and my husband gets the sumo steak. The filet mignon is definitely worth it but if you prefer more meat, the sumo steak is the way to go. The drinks are affordable and compared to other teppanyaki places, the food is affordable and absolutely worth it. They also offer a happy hour in the dining room only - does not include the teppanyaki grill area. Truly one of our favorite places!!

3.5/5 Stars - Nice Experience, But Some Service and Timing Issues…read more We visited Tabi-Ji Teppanyaki for my husband's birthday and had an overall decent experience, though there were a few things that would make us think twice before returning. We chose the dining room seating rather than the teppanyaki tables. The staff did offer us the teppanyaki experience, but since we don't eat red meat or chicken from certain places and weren't sure how the food preparation process worked with mixed ingredients, we opted for a regular table instead. One downside was the seating arrangement. We were seated away from most of the other guests, and it often felt like the staff forgot we were there. Our original host/server was attentive and friendly, but once they were busy with other tasks, it became difficult to get assistance. It was also not busy for a Tuesday evening. We found ourselves waiting for long periods or having to wave someone down, which wasn't ideal, especially for a birthday dinner. As for the food: * Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll (4/5): Fresh, good quality fish, and a generous portion. A solid sushi roll. * Garlic Edamame (4/5): Flavorful and exactly what you'd expect from a good appetizer. * Lobster Duo with Miso Soup, Salad, and Fried Rice (3/5): Unfortunately, the lobster was quite chewy and seemed overcooked. The miso soup and fried rice were both enjoyable and helped make up for it. * Unagi Donburi (4/5): My husband's meal came with white rice, miso soup, salad, and fried rice. It was his first time trying eel, and he really enjoyed the soft texture and flavor. He said he'd definitely order it again. Our biggest disappointment was the timing of the food. The Unagi Donburi arrived significantly later than everything else. By the time it came out, we had already eaten most of the appetizers and other dishes and were pretty full. It's unfortunate because it seemed like a dish that would have been much better enjoyed fresh, but we ended up taking most of it home. Overall, the food ranged from good to very good, and being able to reserve through Resy and use our Amex dining benefit definitely helped offset the cost. However, considering the price point, we expected more attentive service and better pacing of the meal.

The fish here is really high quality, and each piece melted in your mouth with how fresh and buttery they were. My favorites were the bluefin tuna, scallop, cherry salmon, and black cod. This is such a steal, especially considering how the omakase already comes with a piece of bluefin nigiri, but you can still choose to get more bluefin in your roll. My only criticism would be that they can go a little heavy on the wasabi sometimes, but that's more of a personal preference since I prefer to eat sushi without wasabi at all. We came at around 6:30 on a Thursday and got seated right away. Our server was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is located in a strip mall, and parking was plentiful and easy. Kaarage: Would not order this again, it was probabably the thing we enjoyed the least from what we ordered. More like chicken nuggets and less like a classic Kaarage. Sushi Burrito: I always look for interesting things on the menu and got this. It tasted quite good but was also very "fusion" in the way it was plated and tasted. In soy paper with a large heaping of artificial crab. Softshell Crab: The best I've had in a long time, so well cooked and not oily. Shoutout to our server for holding it down and waiting on all the tables herself and to the sushi chefs because all of the nigiri's had an amazing fish to rice ratio and the fish were all evenly cut. The pepper salmon nigiri, regular salmon nigiri, yellowtail on the yellowtail roll were all incredibly buttery and extremely fresh and soft. Garlic shrimp was also pleasantly great. Individual Japanese Hot Pots Each person gets their own hot pot with pre-portioned ingredients. You can choose between sukiyaki and miso broth, as well as beef or pork. The portions aren't huge, but the noodles have a great texture and don't get mushy easily. I also like the balance of meat and vegetables. It's so nice to enjoy something warm after eating sashimi! I had two pots all to myself. My favorite combination was spicy miso broth with beef. Great Appetizers The menu isn't overly extensive, but we tried quite a few appetizers, including baked mussels, shrimp tempura, fried squid, and grilled salmon collar. We liked these so much that we ordered them more than once! Rice-Free Rolls If you're a fan of fresh fish, don't miss their rice-free rolls! Without the rice, you get to enjoy even more of the fish. Each order comes with four pieces, making it easy to try different varieties without feeling too full. Fresh, High-Quality Sashimi The fish quality really stood out to me. You can tell from the sashimi that they take freshness seriously. Make sure to order it early, though, because each person is only allowed to order it once. AYCE That Feels Like a Regular Japanese Restaurant Even though this is an all-you-can-eat restaurant, the menu is manageable rather than overwhelming. The dishes feel thoughtfully prepared, and the presentation and quality remind me more of ordering à la carte at a Japanese restaurant than eating at a typical AYCE spot. Pricing * $29.99 lunch, Monday-Friday before 4 PM * $39.99 dinner and weekends * Kids under 30 inches (76 cm) eat free I especially appreciate that weekday lunch is available until 4 PM, later than the usual 3 PM cutoff at many restaurants. Located in Orange, it's also a convenient drive from Santa Ana, Tustin, and Irvine. My friend and I were seated immediately at a booth table for a Sunday around 7pm. We shared Gloria's Special Roll, Medusa Roll, Nemo roll, and miso soup. The chefs made them fresh behind the open concept counter and were expertly rolled. I loved the arrangement of the Medusa Roll as a circle. It had white fish tempura on the inside -- something I had never heard of before! This roll was my favorite because it balanced so well with the jalapeño, avocado, spicy mayo, seared tuna, fried onion and garlic ponzu. My friend had never tried soy paper before so we ordered Gloria's Special Roll which had a punchier flavor due to the sauce and onions (not spicy). Inside it comes with tuna, shrimp tempura, and avocado in soy paper. It was topped with yellowtail, salmon, jalapeño, fresh red onion, and ceviche sauce! We both loved the Nemo roll as well, which came with spicy shrimp & crab and avocado on the inside. It was topped with salmon, eel sauce, chili oil, creamy sauce, masago, and green onion. I will say that each roll was on the pricier end, ranging from $20-22 each.
