On this trip to Hanalei, I had to see what was new because it had been at least 7 years since I had been on island. My only complaint about the clothing line itself is that their spaghetti strap dresses do not contain a shelf bra, so if you are on the bigger chest side of the spectrum, this may be difficult unless you have a really good strapless bra. From the moment I walked in, I was met with some high-pressure sales which was a major turn off. I have tried on their dresses before, but they are just not flattering on my body type. I am not fond of strapless bras because they tend to smash large breasts, and are too hot to wear, especially in the humidity of Kauai. Their line is stunning, and they have beautiful shirts for men as well. The dresses come with pockets which is a plus, but their items are extremely pricey, at $239+ per dress. Once again, I left empty handed due to the high-pressure sales, high prices, and lack of shelf bra incorporated into their dresses. I therefore I opted to wear a beautiful and colorful spaghetti strap dress with pockets and a shelf bra from Marshalls for $29.99 and still looked stunning. There is a location in Kapa'a as well. Sure enough, Marta came right on over while we entertained ourselves with the adorable shop cat. I picked up a few tops for when my little is bigger as well as some adorable little summer dresses! I also got two beach cover up dresses and a facemask (you can never have too many these days) for myself. Items are definitely on the pricey side, but all the fabrics were hand painted by her husband Ambrose and sewn by Marta herself so I was not surprised given the work involved. The shopping bag and tissue paper had an adorable little illustration that I learned was created by her daughter when she was growing up. They've been in business since the early 80s so I loved that we could support an amazing local, family-owned business for our Kauai souvenirs! Extra bonus points because while the credit card reader was taking it's sweet time Ambrose stopped by the shop to give us fresh fruit from their garden (freshest mango I've ever had) and a hand painted fish watercolor!

I love textures and quality when it comes to clothes and that's why shopping when I'm on island is a must as they just have it sorted out! On the second Sunday each month there's an arts & craft fair with food vendors and live music. Hubby enjoyed going into the Ace Hardware store. Two places we did takeout - Sandwich Isle and Lotus Garden Thai and Chinese. There's an outdoor food court and nearby a public library and a bank. Heads up - avoid going to Foodland during dinner hour. Everyone has the same idea. Long times. We liked the poke. But the prepared food was primarily fried food. Ample outdoor parking.

After hubby and I checked out the Lighthouse in Kilauea, we were attracted to the Kong Lung Market shopping center because we saw the sign "Cake" and like moths to a flame, we had to stop to have a slice. We were bamboozled! There was no cake! No cookies! No coffee! No madelines! Not a pink box to be found! BUT it does appear to be a rather nice, upscale gift shop with nice people. Cake, you broke my icing-filled heart.
