Do not come here for surfboard rentals. Here are three reasons why:…read more 1. **Higher Prices**: This is not the cheapest place to rent surfboards. My family and I initially wanted to rent from a different shop, but they close early in the afternoon. So, we ended up at Backdoor Surf instead. I recommend going to Hanalei Surfboard Rentals instead; it's cheaper, and they offer both half-day and full-day options. You can check them out at [Hanalei Surfboard Rentals](https://hanaleisurfboardrentals.com/). I'm not affiliated with them; I just had a really good experience, and they loaded the boards onto our car quickly. 2. **Long Wait Times and Attitude**: At Backdoor Surf, they spend a long time inspecting the boards and handling paperwork, but that's not the worst part. One of the store associates, David, was quite rude while loading the boards onto our car. My mother asked me to watch him so I could learn how to put the boards back on the car rack when we returned. I told her I already knew how to do it, and David interjected, "Then why don't you do it?" He had a poor attitude while loading the boards, despite us paying over $80 for two surfboards and one paddleboard. Another associate, Kira, told us that David would load the boards and he still gave us an attitude, and it took him about 20-30 minutes to do it. 3. **Poor Customer Service**: Kira started rambling about her personal problems during our visit, while David provided terrible service and only acted friendly when we returned the boards. **Summary**: Choose another rental place if you prefer to be treated professionally by those you are paying and if you value timely service.

On my first trip to Kauai, my friends took me to this quant shopping center in Hanalei. We parked…read morein the parking lot at the base of the Hanalei Mountains and the view took my breath away. While my friends went into their favorite vintage shop, the Yellowfish Trading Company, I walked the grounds and just took in the magic of these mountains and surrounding valley. Lush, green, clouds, flowers - heaven! Unlike most shopping centers, Hanalei Center is comprised of separate little shops, many in historical buildings that have been refurbished. It's a mix of shops offering something for everyone: clothes, surfer gear, shoes, jewelry, chocolates, art, bars, and several restaurants. Most are locally owned and sell items that are locally produced. You must stop at Chocolate Hanalei, a tiny chocolatier that has the most amazing chocolates! All handmade and many include fruit from the region. My favorites are the dark chocolate covered mango and dark chocolate covered baby bananas. Delicious! We also stopped at the bar that was featured in Deliverence and had Mai Tais. A must stop. This shopping center is geared to tourists, and I was a tourist, so I totally enjoyed it! I loved walking from shop to shop, appreciating all the flowers and foliage along the way. Sampling food and drinks, buying treasures, it is so quaint and charming!

I love the Tropical Tantrum clothing line, and I really wish I could find the perfect dress for…read moremyself because their clothing is so beautiful. On this trip to Hanalei, I had to see what was new because it had been at least 7 years since I had been on island. My only complaint about the clothing line itself is that their spaghetti strap dresses do not contain a shelf bra, so if you are on the bigger chest side of the spectrum, this may be difficult unless you have a really good strapless bra. From the moment I walked in, I was met with some high-pressure sales which was a major turn off. I have tried on their dresses before, but they are just not flattering on my body type. I am not fond of strapless bras because they tend to smash large breasts, and are too hot to wear, especially in the humidity of Kauai. Their line is stunning, and they have beautiful shirts for men as well. The dresses come with pockets which is a plus, but their items are extremely pricey, at $239+ per dress. Once again, I left empty handed due to the high-pressure sales, high prices, and lack of shelf bra incorporated into their dresses. I therefore I opted to wear a beautiful and colorful spaghetti strap dress with pockets and a shelf bra from Marshalls for $29.99 and still looked stunning. There is a location in Kapa'a as well. Beautiful clothing and 100% worth looking at.
