Today I decided to do something different. Wanted a little barbecue, so I googled a spot and this was close. $30 for a pound of beef ribs. The flavor amazing, but to leave the membrane on made it a very chewy experience. I have read a few reviews on the Dino ribs and brisket that were good. First off, where can you come have a meal with some calm elevator music playing?! Answer: Kafi BBQ! The owner greeted us and he and his staff walked us through all the menu options. The Dino Rib is on ANOTHER LEVEL and a must try. Amazing crust and meat fell off that big bone. We tried all the sides and loved everything but the Mac n cheese. Saw a review on this place to had to try it when I visited Texas. BBQ flavor and quality was really excellent! Service was great ! They could give you some more onions and pickles but the brisket, Dino ribs and sausage were exceptionally good. Definitely trying some more things the next time I'm in town. Saw them in D Magazine and had to come and check them out. Here are my thoughts: Fries: simple execution, obviously made in house as they were very fresh - good! Cornbread: amazing! a little spicy, perfectly dense and overall a standout. Mac and cheese: the only let down of the meal - not cheesy at all- very light flavor. However, noodles were cooked well. Sausage: we tried both jalapeño and Iraqi - both delicious! Brisket: 100/10. We ordered a pound of fatty and it was incredible. Very rich, moist and a great crust. Will order again and again. Burnt Ends: we got a sample as this is not on the menu yet but these were wonderful. Coated in a berry glaze these were perfectly sweet and paired well with jalapeños. Banana pudding: just get it- it's incredible. Lastly, the little slaw they include in the plate is great. Very refreshing and each element is pickled in a different brine. I had 1/2 lb of the Wagu Brisket, with cornbread and banana pudding. Buns, Cole Slaw, pickles, jalapeno and red onion relish were included with the brisket. It was tasty and soft - I was able to cut the pieces with a plastic fork. The banana pudding was good too. I wanted to try the back ribs too but they had run out. I had to wait 10 minutes in the line for my turn when I visited at 1pm on a Saturday but seating was sufficient. read more

Finally had some halal TX style bbq after such a long time & it was delicious! When you walk into the restaurant, straight off the bat you can tell the hard work and passion that was poured into the place. The owner and chef is really passionate about his food and what he does. We tried a tray that had a little bit of everything - a rib, brisket, some jalapeño sausage, Iraqi sausage, Mac and cheese, beans, creamed corn, coleslaw, pickles, pickled onions, and jalapenos. We also got the desserts - basbousa and banana pudding afterwards. First off, wow! All the meats were super tender and juicy. Our top favorite was the rib, soo juicy, tender, with the smoked flavor coming through! Our favorite sides were the Mac and cheese and coleslaw. Eat it warm! When we walked in at 9:30 pm, the place was empty and they were cleaning up but they said they could serve us. We ordered the wagyu brisket, wagyu Dino ribs, elote corn, and cardamom banana pudding and took it back to the hotel to enjoy, along with some fries, Hawaiian bread, and bbq sauce. It totally hit the spot and the Dino meat just fell off the bone, sooo tender! Brisket was really good with the bread and bbq sauce as a sandwich! The elote corn was ok, not the best I've had. We enjoyed the banana pudding the next day and the cardamom is noticeable but subtle, would pair really nicely with coffee! The guy said lamb was not gamy and sold it as one of the best meat there and honestly it had such a bad smell to it...it was the worst meat in there. I have tried Texas bbq all over the world and this bbq was hands down the best. And the best thing about this place is that it is halal. Not only that, but somehow the service was even more amazing than the food. The staff and the owner were so nice and welcoming. They make you feel at home. I have tried Texas bbq in California, Arizona, Texas, and even Dubai. This place has the best food and the best service. The restaurant looks so clean and everything is set up so well. You can tell that this place takes a lot of pride in their bbq and more importantly the way they make their customers feel. We had the pomegranate molasses burnt ends and that was easily the best taste of Texas bbq I have ever had in my life. I would never think that taste combination would work and surprisingly it was incredible. Dino ribs and brisket were great. The brisket at Fikscue in Northern California were slightly better but the Dino ribs were basically the same as Fikscue and the meat was falling off the bones so easily! Let me not forget to mention, THE BRISKET AND DINO RIBS ARE WAGYU!!! The sides here are the best I've had anywhere. Elote, Mac n cheese, beef tallow fries, and brisket empanadas were the best sides I've ever had. My only regret is not trying the cornbread! Typing all of this has my mouth watering. The brisket was phenomenal. They had run out of Dino ribs. The back ribs and sausages were ok. In my opinion the Iraqi sausage was salty, but I think that's the Iraqi style. The service was friendly and informative. They are very busy and there was a 30 minute queue to order but once it's your turn, it's quick to assemble the order. I came in the second day they opened. I'm always excited to try new food as a foodie. We got the brisket, beans, corn, cornbread and elote/corn. The staff were super kind and friendly. Even though you could tell they were under a lot of pressure because the line was out the door; they all still managed to smile and were kind when explaining things to us. (Please bare with me as I use the he word seasoning a lot because I'm not sure how else to explain the unique flavor) Now for the important part: Brisket was not dried or soaked in seasoning/sauce. There was a different kind of seasoning but it was bad at all! It didn't over whelm the brisket and the briskets were tender and not super fatty. Sides: they were all still very "Texan" like. The Mac and cheese had a lot of cheesy flavor without being dry or an extensive about of cheese in it. It creamy and didn't feel like I had to struggle to eat it due to the excessive amount of cheese. Corn reminded me of elote. Some were calling it that as well. You could taste the lime and some seasoning. I don't know if cheese was in it but I didn't taste it or see it.(I know sometimes you can really notice it.) Cornbread was not dried at all. It was moist and you could taste/know it's still cornbread. There was jalapeños in the cornbread, not a lot but enough to give it a hint/kick of it. Sausage: it was good, 100% different than what I'm use to. Not bad at all though. I'm not a huge fan of sausage but want to try all I could. Beans: I saved this for last because I don't really like beans. You can tell it's bbq beans, there was a bbq taste but it's not like it was sitting in bbq sauce. I think if you like bbq and trying new foods you should stop by and give it a try. read more

I've been to Kafi BBQ twice. I needed to make sure I wasn't tripping unfairly about the food. Both times were in the afternoon, takeout on Friday. The customer service was pleasant. Although the clean cut guy up front at register looked almost like he was uncomfortable talking to me both times, the young black guy and the guy with the long hair and glasses were super sweet both times. 1ST TIME spent $108. 2ND TIME spent $70 something. The waygu smoked brisket was delicious! The waygu beef rib was bloody. Reheated it at home and it was good, but won't buy that again. Brisket empanada had so much potential. It was fried perfectly, but not much flavor. They must not be using wagyu smoked brisket in them, but just plain cooked brisket because it was almost tasteless and not seasoned at all. The cornbread was good, but not worth $5 a piece (not better than Cattleack). The Texas twinkies were good (not better than Hutchins). The banana pudding was good. All and all this place is worth trying at least once. Just be ready to spend more than usual for bbq. I'll be back when someone posts that they seasoned those empanadas. read more
