Excellent Menu, friendly staff and delicious food. Haven't had the chance to try everything they offer, but their Burger is a must.

I got the tikka combo which involves skewered lamb and chicken over rice. There's some hummus, a big piece of bread, and a salad involved. Overall, I thought everything could have been more flavorful. While I'm a sauce man, if a place doesn't beg me to ask for sauce or add more, I'm pretty impressed. Further, the lamb was kind of tough. Perhaps, some of the other items could be better. They seem to have some nice baked good options. I guess the $ is competitive, but for $20+ for an entree and soda... Service: order at the register. Not too much conversation involved. Maybe about 4 tables available to dine in.

They are located inside a Mediterranean market. We ordered from the bakery, but, paid over in the market. I got their beef shawarma sandwich, while my coworkers went with the chicken. It took a few minutes before our sandwiches were done. The sandwich was big and a very good value for the price they charge. The problem I had was with the meat as it was very gristly. The beef was marinated well, and came with tomatoes and onions. They were okay. I can't complain much as the price was very reasonable.

This takes me to the Arden-Arcade neighborhood of Sacramento where I had the opportunity to check out "Tolo Market & Restaurant". Located directly on Marconi Ave. and adjacent to busy Fulton Ave., this place has been doing double duty by being a small dedicated store (specializing in unique perishable goods for purchase) as well as a full-on Afghan-fusion menu. Considering they opened in early-2020 (while making it through the pandemic), I will say that this place survived the worst of the worst. I ended up dining here solo and arrived during the afternoon of Sunday 6/29/2025 at around 2:45pm. Since this wasn't a busy area which neighbors a Domino's Pizza and a dental office (which was closed), I parked directly outside of the business. Upon entry, there were no customers at the time but two employees (one of which I believe was the owner). Additionally, the market area had a ton of unique spices, sauces, and many other food items that are for sale. As for the menu itself (which also goes by "Madar Afghan-Food & Bakery", it was quite eclectic as their influence on the Persian/Halal dishes was quite apparent. Here, you will see a variety of samosa dishes, Bolani, kebabs, Naanwich, Halal fries, and unique desserts. Since this was my first time, I ended up going with a fan favorite, their "Chapli Burger". This was an interesting twist on a burger which uses spiced Pakistani meat complete with green chutney, herbed yogurt, lettuce and tomatoes on a soft sesame seed bun. I ordered the combo which included a side of their "Baked Masala Fries" and a refreshingly delicious "Salaam Cola" (which is no sugar for the carb-conscious). The entire time it took for them to prepare my burger & fries only took about 9 minutes. As shown in the photos I provided, the burger itself had a wonderful presentation. The meat was tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection which utilizes subtle hints of Pakistani spices. The yogurt dressing provided a cool refreshing balance while the tomatoes were cool and crunchy. My fries also had a very crispy and well seasoned taste while the cola was delicious and hit the spot on a somewhat warm summer day. All in all, "Tolo Market & Restaurant" exceeded my expectations. Don't let the no-frills look of this place fool you because they really put out some excellent flavor in the place. The service was amazing while the prices of their entire menu was very reasonable. Best of all, they have very decent hours being opened for business Sun-Thu from 9am-9pm and Fri-Sat from 9am-10pm. With that said and done, I am giving this place a perfect five-star rating.

When I was here, there was a young man at the register who also made the food. Daughter got a chicken kebab which she enjoyed and I got some sort of "burger." It was supposed to come with an egg to boot. I got the order to go. The order took quite a bit of time which gave me the opportunity to see the interesting grocery store items: various loose leaf teas, spices, refrigerated gulab jamun, it was all very fascinating. Once home, unwrapping my "burger" it was more like a huge wrap with a type of flatbread consisting mostly of fries and salad mix with a few pieces of chicken. No egg to speak of. I ended up throwing out 80% of it. Maybe there was a language barrier? In any case I don't think I'll be returning.

This restaurant is a study in old school dining experience. It reminiscent of family owned restaurants with the older generation creating a homey atmospshere. The furniture is comfy and broken in. When you walk in, you feel immediately welcomed by the staff. There is nothing pretentious about this place at all. For an appetizer, we got the Bademjoon- an eggplant dip served with naan. To make it vegan, asked for the kashk on the side. The dip by itself was good, but with the hashk, it took it the whole new level. They also gave us an oil and mint dressing, which was phenomenal. For my main course I chose to have the beef Koobideh with rice, salad and a roasted tomato. I could eat those roasted tomatoes all day long. My friend shared a secret with me- cut roasted tomato, mix it in with the basmati rice and top with sumac. What an amazing combination? Throughout our meal, staff would pass by and see how we were doing. Not intrusive, it didn't feel like a server asking you if you need anything. All in all my meals here have been great. If it was a little bit closer to home, I would probably go more often. Parking is a little touch and go sometimes there's parking and sometimes there isn't. The lot is very small.
