Service wasn't super fast but food was worth the wait. Ordered the baklava sampler and here's where the star droppage occurred. Yes, I know droppage isn't a real word but you get the idea. I will state for the record that I consider myself a little bit of a "baklava elitist". It's one of my favorite desserts and I eat it everywhere it's offered. These were simply ok. I wouldn't turn into down if offered again but I would drive out of my way just for the baklava. So...in summary, try this place, as long as you're not in a hurry. Really a 3.5 star review, but rounding up, because that is how I roll. The place is clean and modern and matches much of Gunbarrel road. In that it lacks character and maybe authenticity. But the place was mostly clean, and the food was tasty and a good value. More of a fast food middle eastern... not the mom-and-pop places I am used to. Details. Looking at vegan or vegetarian options, we noted that this place had a vegetarian sampler plate, so awesome. Unfortunately for us it had two items with cheese. We ordered the fallafel wrap and a veggie kabob with a side salad, no feta, and hummus. We also ordered a side dish of babaganoush. I was in no hurry, but I did note it took a while to cook... which is fine. But it makes me wonder how they handle the drive through? Is that only for called in orders? Because waiting 20 minutes in the drive thru lane seems like it would not work. The veggie kabob was very good. On a small pile of grilled lettuce. The hummus was fine. Nothing to write home about, but okay. The salad was served with a dressing that has feta in it, so that was a fail for me (not holding it against them... it is my eating quirk after all). The tahini sauce was also a let down, as it seemed to be made around a yoghurt base, not a simple ground sesame seed, olive oil, and seasoning. The tahini was almost like the Tzasiki. So all of this would have worked well for a vegetarian, not as well for a vegan. But then if I knew better, I would have ordered the rice and hummus with the veggie kabob and been good. Next time! The babaganoush was VERY good. Some of the best I have had. The bread they serve with it was interesting. I have never seen anything like it. Not a Pita... and not a Tandoor style I am used to. More like a donut without sugar. It was good though. But who does not like donuts? The falafel wrap was good. Huge. I dislike the traffic on gunbarrel and turning left into this parking lot is risky at certain times of the day. Service was fine. I never know if I should tip for a place like this. I order and pay at the counter. I bus my own table. I get my own drink. So just not sure... feel like a dick leaving a dollar. But feel silly leaving much more when I did much of the service work. The beef kabob was tender and well prepared and not over cooked. The kufta kabob was crunchy and really satisfying. Come to a five but was just missing something. Wow! In from out of town. Wanted delivery, ordered and had delivered with GrubHub. I was hesitant to order because the delivery charge was so high, but glad I did, it was so worth it. I ordered the stuffed grape leaves and the gyro plate with 3 sides; Basmati rise, Greek salad and hummus and cans with pita bread. I came here with my mother-in-law while in town for some biz. My mom-in-law loved her beef schwarma!! My veggie sampler was good. The falafel wasn't the best I've had but I would order it again. I usually don't like baba ganoush, but I actually didn't mind theirs!! Grape leaves and hummus: not the best, but definitely worth a return trip. Why I gave this 3 stars instead of 4--for a casual quick Mediterranean place, the food was SLOW. This could be because I'm a northerner in a southern town and things do move at a different pace here, but the wait was a bit ridiculous. But if you have the time, it's worth the stop. read more

This has become our favorite lunch place. My wife loves gyros and love falafel and this is why we started coming. She has always said the gyro wrap provided an ample amount of succulent marinated meat for any appetite. I usually order the falafel wrap, but the last time I mistakenly ordered the gyro wrap with falafel balls on the side. I am glad I did! The gyro came wrapped in a large pita bursting with meat. I could not pick up the wrap and wound up eating it with a fork. This is now going to be my standard order. After 35 minutes of waiting on our food and watching others be served, I asked if they had forgotten to put our order in. The manager said it's because we ordered chicken kabobs and it takes a while. A couple that had came in 20 minutes after us ordered the exact same thing that we had, except they already had their food. I understand that you never want to let the customer know that their order was forgotten, but to so obviously lie was silly. 50 minutes after ordering, we finally received our food. The sides were cold, and our chicken was still cold and pink in the middle. There was no offer of a discount or anything for the 50 minute wait and extremely undercooked food. read more

First time at kabob-sters. Initially walking in the smell of the restaurant was less than pleasant. Smells of dirty cleaning water. The tables stunk and we're greasy. Ordered our food. The customer service was great. Welcoming with smiles and cheerful attitudes. Food is made fresh to order. We ordered the gyro wrap with rice and french fries. I haven't had a decent gyro since I went to Chicago. This place however, has a decent gyro. Best in town thus far. The sauce was somewhat bland than what I'd like but still edible. I finally remembered about this place! Yay! I had no idea what to expect other than kabobs. The menu is pretty big as far as middle Eastern food goes. I ordered a lunch combo: beef kabob, hummus, tabouli salad. I thought it was a great value and amount of food. This is where my only complaint is, the wait was quite long. So that gave me plenty of time to take in my surroundings. Tv in the corner, tables set up like a cafeteria. Neat mural on the wall ahead and bright colors. Banquet seating along one wall with bright cushions. Clean. Hooray my food arrived! The tabouli is wonderfully fresh. I was very interested that it was heavy on the veggies and the grain was more of a compliment to the veggies. This tells me it is authentic, truly middle eastern food. And I will add... I have tried to make this a dozen times and I can't get anywhere close to the flavor. Yum. The hummus was perfect. I am a hummus purist and like just traditional hummus, this was perfect. I did think I needed a couple more pita or less hummus. The ratio was off! The kabob was my least favorite. The flavor was great, the meat was just on the tough side. I like my steak pretty rare, so it was probably more a matter of personal preference than anything. I will definitely be back. "You have to try Kabob-ster" said my friend, "alright" I agreed. A few days later I grabbed my co-writer and off we went. Located on one of the most annoyingly busy roads in Chattanooga in a shopping center without signalized ingress, there could not have been a clearer omen had Damien himself been standing out front. However, being dedicated to our cause we of course ignored this and walked inside. Arriving at the register we met our panicked looking host, order taker, cashier, server, busboy person. Apparently the computer systems were down and it was causing some stress. Having been in the industry we understood and were patient. That soon started to wane. Drink choices that day were, well they were water. The soft drink dispenser had joined the computer system in some sort of AWOL pact. First order: gyro...simple. Second order: chicken kabob with 3 side choices special. When inquiring as to what the side choices were we were excited to find out there were three. So basically the special was kabob and everything we have. After waiting a time sufficient that we debated walking out, our food arrived: a gyro and a gyro. At this point we were both laughing uncontrollably at the experience. I excused myself past the other two soon to be unlucky customers trying to obtain food and placed my plate on the counter, announcing "not what I ordered" and returned to the table for more laughter. Shortly thereafter the 'chef' arrived apologetically with a chicken kabob and the plate I had left on the counter. We did each receive a small piece of mystery dessert as a consolation prize. After picking over my jerky kabob, enjoying the cold "all we have for you" sides, and offering apologies to my co-writer for having driven there, both of us threw all but a few missing bites in the garbage and left. The atmosphere and any other review criteria were lost as part of our PTSD. I'm not saying everyday runs like this at Kabob-ster, we're just saying we're never going to find out. read more

This was just a disappointing meal. Terrible. We went on Friday night 5/22/15 at 7pm and should have realized this was a poor choice early on. The 3 young men working didn't know what they were doing. After debating for several minutes over how to ring up our Turkish tea, they tell us they don't have any tea. We grabbed our food to go and got home before we realized that instead of baba ganoush we got hummus (which wasn't very good). Our falafel appetizer was cold and old and stale. The balls were actually mushy. They tasted like they'd been prepared days before and then nuked before serving. My kebob feast had mediocre meat, an unremarkable salad, and stale crusty bread. The real horror, though, was the old rice. Why would you ruin a plate of saffron rice but "augmenting" it with shredded iceberg lettuce? I know basmati and saffron aren't cheap, but please just give me a smaller serving rather than bulking it up to double volume with cheap cold lettuce. Yuck! The final indignity was the gyro sandwich. One of the pieces of meat had gone sour and rancid but was served anyway. The entire sandwich was ruined by the flavor and odor. It may have been an off night. I have a lot of experience with middle eastern cuisine; I love to eat and cook it, and this place was a truly terrible example of it. Maybe it's better when the owners are there for quality control, but I'm never going back to find out. read more

Kabobster is one of the best goddamned food I've had. My friend took me there about a month or two ago and I've been back multiple times ever since. The staff is polite (shoutout to the Asian dude that always fixes our food). The food is fresh and is always made to order AND it taste good. In terms of what to order, I would recommend the lunch combo they have. You get to pick one main entree and a side. That comes with a drink and I think it'll round you up to around $8-9. I usually get the beef shawarma wrap with a side of fries. The wrap is packed with beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. The tabouli salad is also very delicious and refreshing along side with the oily fries. I'm so happy this place was introduced to me. Thanks Ari! Really yummy, fresh food. The first time we tried this place, it was late in the evening and we had just moved here and were unfamiliar with the hours and locations of places serving this type of food. Yelp came to the rescue and sent us here. When we called, they were only open for another 15 minutes but went ahead and took our order and had it ready for takeout (even though by that time they had technically closed). They went above and beyond for us and the food was fresh and tasty! Our subsequent visits have yielded similarly good food and friendly service. read more

Loved it! We went on Mother's Day. I wanted to try something new and we ALL wanted to avoid the long lines and crowds. My husband an I had the kabob feast with a grape leaf appetizer. This is fast casual. You can get your own drink. The food quality is very high. Your falafel pita sandwhich will have those nice pickled vegetable pieces in them, the way that it is supposed to be. Turnip is it? Yes. Those are supposed to be in there, and at Kabobster they are. My usual order will be the falafel sandwhich and baba ganoush. This is the best baba ganoush I have had. I like a little baba ganoush on my sandwhich. I like the kind of pickles they used to garnish the baba ganoush. The baklava is better than what I tried in New York, and my favorite one is the birds nest with pistachios. I like green tea with unsweetened tea in it here. I feel like I went out to eat, after eating here, and that is a rare feeling for me. I think that the prices and portions are about right for what they are serving. There is an authentic flavor to their food. They should do well. There are plenty of choices for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. There is no other restaurant of the same cuisine that comes close to the quality level of their food. The decor is fine. 1/14/14 I like getting two Veggie Wraps, but this time I had a little bit of leftovers. I like 1 pistachio birds nest to end my meal. The soda fountain was good. A+ okay all around. We really want the option of going here. We both agree that we liked it better than Penn Station East Coast subs, which is where we ate the day before. It is clearly better than NYPD, for us, as vegetarians. Very consistently good food of a very high quality. Provinos and Kabobster are close rivals for me. Sometimes I would pick one. This is absolutely one of my favorite places in town. I've always loved food from other cultures, and my boyfriend grew up in the Middle East and recommended this restaurant. So..... We went and I fell in love. He's in Lebanon for the summer so I will be going at least every other week. Love it there and I can practice my Arabic with our favorite cashier! Not a real what you would call fan of middle eastern food, but from what I have experienced, this was definitely the best bang for the buck. First things first... just because I gave this place 5 stars, does not mean it is a 5 star restaurant. It is located inside of a strip mall. So do not go here expecting anything more than cleanliness and good food. Which was my experience, and the food was the best middle eastern food that I have ever eaten for the price; hence the 5 stars. I tried the gyro, falafel and spring rolls. Was not a fan of the spring rolls, but I had never had this kind before and really don't know what to compare them to. The falafel was great. Crunchy, tender, tasty, just great in every way. The gyro... omg was it great! Just the bread alone was heavenly. The meat was so tender flavorful and a good amount. The sauce was a nice addition but not something that really made any improvement to the gyro because it carried itself. Yes, I said it, but maybe that's a negative on the sauce and not a positive on the gyro? Take it how you want, I'm not sure either haha. Went here today, got the baba ganoush starter with the Kabob-ster feast and mango juice. Bread for the baba ganoush was nice and fresh and tasted amazing. The feast was amazing, the blend of spices was great and the variety of food was good. The only thing I was slightly disappointed with was the lack of seasoning in the rice but I ate it with the hummus and it was still very good. Can't wait to come back again read more
