    37. Chicken Tikka Masala
    TingJia L.

We've been on an Indian food binge recently and this is up there. We were very surprised as it is right in our neighborhood too! We got the chicken masala (always can tell if a restaurant is good by this dish)- which was delicious and moist! Also got the Mutter Paneer with almonds and peas. This was so great! We also had meat samosas to start- very interesting flavorful meat with a crisp and light pastry. We also got the Kabob Stop platter with an assortment of meats including chicken and beef. It was all delicious but a standout was the chicken. This place knows how to grill chicken. FIVE STARS. Will certainly reorder!

Malai Kofta, vegetarian. Great soft croquettes and ratio with flavorful sauce, instead of three jawbreaker-size balls in a sea of sauce.

Very glad I found this place! Excellent lamb curry and the malai kofta was delicious. I liked that the vegetable-cheese dumplings were more in a log shape than round, easy to break up with a fork and fit a nice bite along with sauce, and it was all flavorful. The rice was top notch too! Rice is usually an afterthought to me, but this rice had actual taste by itself and I think fennel and was perfect texture to carry sauce. The naan seemed very authentic but was a little too flaky with a smokey flavor for me, but the onion kulcha was great. I'll definitely be returning, I've heard good things about spiced chicken.

Chicken Tikka was amazing. Full of flavor and a good amount of heat. Chicken kati roll also great. Really friendly service.

I noted with some amusement that they sent new staff to serve me, and I figure that's fine, I'm closing in on 5000 Yelp reviews, I'm a veteran at this. I ordered slightly unconventionally, getting a spread of dumplings and a side of dal with some bread. The momos were delightful in texture. They way the were served with sauce in between them rather than on the side was a little unconventional, but the end result worked well. My dal was richly flavored, with a fresh tadka clearly evident on top. The bread wasn't quite enough to mop up the whole thing, but I don't mind just eating straight lentils from time to time with a spoon, so ultimately this meal was a winner. I would be more than happy to return.

It is the kind of place that you can smell tempting you from about a block away. Almost everything we had was amazing. The naan was filled with sauteed onions and I could have eaten the entire basket. The biryani dishes come in your own personal Le Creuset Dutch oven and are truly the size of a family meal. The mirch malai tikka is basically a deconstructed chicken tikka masala. It was excellent. The chicken was grilled with crispy edges and the sauce was complex and decadent. We also tried the goat curry, which was rich and delightful. Sadly, the plan rice that came with the meals was terrible. Like, it felt musty, almost? It did not smell or taste right and we did not eat it. Our waiter was great, attentive but no hovering, and was helpful with choosing the right spice level. Overall, a very good meal.

I had never tried Kumari in the past so I was excited to say something new and then learned upon sitting down that they offer buffet lunches on the weekends for about $18 all in. The service was really spectacular considering, and the tea was really delightful. Mango Lassi was too sweet. The space is quite large and they have seating on both sides of the restaurant. This is a no-frills restaurant and sometimes you have to grab silverware and napkins yourself but with two people working there and a restaurant full of people I thought the service was great. If you like a buffet, then I would very much recommend this place for you for Indian / Nepalese food.

Came back for a weekend to show my husband around and thought it would be a good idea to check this place out again after so many years. Maybe the chef has changed or maybe my 25 year old had low standards - but the food wasn't good at all. Everything tasted just.. sweet. However, chai is still good and kheer wasn't too bad either. Still giving it 3 stars for all the good memories associated with it.

We were given ample time to look over the menu (I hate being rushed!), and we ordered various things. I ordered the tandoor salmon, and WOW! The salmon was cooked perfectly and had an amazing flavor. It was brought out a hot plate, but I noticed they put a thin layer of veggies to avoid the salmon getting burnt or further cooking (such attention to detail!). The marinade was so yummy. I also ordered the mango juice, which was delicious and tasted like my favorite childhood mango juice box. The rest in my party ordered the chicken tikka appetizer, vegetable samosa (came with 2 pcs. which were the size of baseballs), garlic naan (they graciously gave us more on the house), and more. They also ordered the mango lassi and really enjoyed the taste and smoothness. They also gave us these fried veggie appetizers on the house, but I can't recall what they were called. Their portions were big and plenty. Overall, my party and I enjoyed our meal and I also appreciated that they gave us our checks separately, saving us all the hassle of splitting the check and zelle/venmo-ing the money afterwards. I was in Baltimore for 8 weeks and it's shame I visited Sakoon so late, because it was such a great experience. The next time I'm in Baltimore, I'll definitely be coming back. Thank you!
