This place is always packed, yet it is still clean, at least comparing to Merit Kebab where I usually visits, and the servers are very friendly to us. Food is good. I have to say some dishes taste not quite fresh, but considering I was there at 12am, it is understandable. My cousin and her husband raved about this place but I found it to be strictly okay. Went here with the fam for brunch and got halwa puri, choley, and some chicken. It was okay. My boyfriend and I wanted to try something new since we were only in Texas for a short time. We went to King Kabob and we ordered #7 and #3. And an appetizer of eggplant with pita bread. One beef and one lamb shank. The waiter took our order and went in the back. He came back and said they don't have any lamb shanks. So I picked the lamb chops and he came back again and said they did not have any of the beef or chops that we ordered. We gave him one more chance and picked two kabob dishes that they did have. We noticed that one menu had one set of prices different from the other. We did not get a good feeling but we stayed since we were hungry. We got our meals before the appetizer. Prices here are very reasonable,the atmosphere is decent,service is average and food is worth a try although not the best. What was very dissapointing was the kababs. I tried the beef kabab. They didnt have to use so much of red food coloring in it. Usually for kababs you dont need to use food coloring.Also the kababs had more of a peppery taste to it which is not how it should be.Dont get me wrong it tasted fine but that is not how the kababs should taste. This place may as well be a truck stop - that's exactly what it looks and feels like inside. The bottom floor is normally crowded and loud, and it's very easy to get ignored. The top floor, where waiter service is available is a bit nicer but still in need of a serious change in ambiance. How's the food? Passable. We ordered Beef Bihari, Chicken Tikka, Beef Nihari, Chicken Biryani, Naan, and Gulab Jaman. Everything was excellent except for the Beef Nihari, which is a dish with gravy. My Pakastani friend said that it didn't taste as it was supposed to. My only complaint is that the green mint-jalapeno sauce on the table wasn't spicy enough, but I guess we could have ordered our dishes spicy. Will have to do that next time. Their bihari kabab tastes like the shish kebab (sheekh kabab for those seeking desi authenticity) that you find in North India. I am in love with this place, although the clientele can be sketchy (I had a guy eating here here stalk me back home). Two things make this place: Great tasting kabobs. You can tell the meat used is very high quality altho the place doesn't exactly look high end to say the least. I highly recommend the seekh kabab and the behari kabab. Emphasis is on the quality of the meat here. While the sauce and marinates are great, the meat isn't doused in it as similair joints are. Second, it's dirt cheap. I hardly venture out of Manhattan to eat so I'm used to getting ripped off for food but me and my friends threw it down with all sorts of kabobs and appetizers and it came out to $12.50 each. This is my favorite place in my neighborhood. I go here very often and am always pleased with what I order. I think it's very good value, especially if you compare it to other restaurants of its kind in Manhattan. The naan is always tasty, as is the daal. Their chicken dishes are all very yummy. It felt like they just prepare entrees through recipes on the back of packeted masalas. Absolutely zero sense toward achieving an authentic taste for any BBQ item. My experience at kebab king was absolutely horrendous. Let me start by saying that it deserves ZERO stars. Our waiter came to our table twenty minutes later from when we took our seat. He was rude and sloppy and we were given third class service just because we didnt look desi enough. It took forever for the food to show up. And when it did show up I was highly disappointed to see the chicken karahi and chicken makhni drowned in oil. The chicken makhni was okay, the serving size was ridiculous for a small bowl. And ugh dont get me started on the chicken karahi...it was horrible! It tasted more like korma then karahi. The 'parathas' were just fried rotis, nothing special about them. Everything was overspiced, my husband and I couldnt eat anything for the whole day after that horrible experience. Everything was just so heavy that our stomachs ached the whole day and we had indigestion problems for a prolonged time. Lastly if I wanted to be served in paper plates and cups I would go to a fast food place or better yet one of the halal carts on the roadside; not a family restaurant. A lot of hype for no reason people. If you want a sixty dollar tummy ache by the end of the day then kebab king will cater to your hearts desire.
