Location: Plenty of parking as it is part of pretty large strip mall Typical deli-like decor with salads and dips behind a windowed counter Order: Koobideh / donner kebab platter - 13.99 Lamb platter - 16.99 Chicken platter - 14.99 Sides: pasta salad pickled veggies shirazi salad (diced onion, tomato and cucumber) Came with pita bread Pros: While the price might seem kinda high for a Mediterranean place, it's because there was so much food!! Each box was piled to the brim with buttery basmati rice, meat, and a deliciously blistered grilled plum tomato, and comes with 1 side each and bread. Honestly 2 boxes could have fed all three of us there. Meat -- particularly lamb and chicken breast -- were cooked up tender! The chicken kebab was well flavored with lemon and the lamb was seasoned well. I enjoyed all three meat platters very much. One of the best Persian places I've been to. Pleasant atmosphere, reasonable pricing, and high quality ingredients make Kabab Cafe a welcome addition to the area. Friends and I walked in to bright colors and to the sounds of appropriately ethnic music. A decent crowd filled the restaurant. We got in line, placed our orders, and waited a bit. A staffer brought our food out, and even helped us rearrange tables so we could sit together. How's that for service? Lunch was a treat. I enjoyed the joojeh with a shirazi side salad ($14), a delicious marriage of basmati rice and tasty meat. The shirazi was fresh - wish I had more - and I made full use of the included limes. My combo, while large, was a bit pricey, but you can take advantage of their dope lunch specials: $5 for various dishes, daily from 11 AM to 2 PM. Check them out! read more

I've had the chicken, lamb, & falafel here. Each of those was pretty good, albeit kinda dry. I'd recommend the falafel of the three. In a vacuum, the food is probably 3 stars. But there are 2 things that bump it up: the fact that you get a gargantuan amount of food & the lavash, which is easily the best I've ever had. Seriously, it's basically 3 meals for the price of 1 (2 if you're super hungry). And the bread is just incredible. It's slightly charred on the outside, but pillowy on the inside and it's probably the best thing since sliced bread (because it is sliced bread). In summary, the food is pretty ok, but the bread alone is worth it, I could eat it all day. read more

Today was my first time here and at the request of my Afghan husband I ordered lunch. We ordered two Combo #3's (joojeh and koobideh) platters with rice. I chose the yogurt and salad as my sides and 1 pink lemonade. Pros: the lady and gentleman at the counter were nice and friendly. I was very happy with their customer service skills. They also gave me extra lemon and some onion at my request without hesitation. Cons: PRICEY - $42 and change for two platters. Wow! Very expensive considering my husband and I frequent several afghan and Persian kabob restaurants. And usually spend around $30. TASTE: The food tasted okay. The koobideh (beef) was cooked well and it was juicy but the meat had a gamey taste to it. We didn't like it. The joojeh (chicken) was good and cooked well. The flavors were very basic and bland. The rice was soaked in oil. Now, typically the rice will have some butter melted on but this was not butter. It was oil and the deeper you got to the bottom of the container the more the rice was soaked in oil and the rice was very bland as well. For the price I was expecting perfectly seasoned fresh and quality meat with aromatic rice. NOPE, it was a mess from the oil to the bland old meat taste. I'm not from PA but I'm sure there's other Persian options available. I wouldn't spend money on the cheap quality of food. *** PLASTICWARE *** during this pandemic I expected the forks, spoons and knives to be placed in the bag by the employees. Wrong! They are unwrapped and stored in a container for the public to help themselves. In my opinion this is not sanitary and the owner needs to rethink this. I purposely grabbed what I needed and tried my best not to touch what I'm not taking but it was impossible. My hands touched the surrounding plasticware regardless. I didn't use them And threw them out because I'm sure the people before me had the same experience with this. I find this a hotspot for the spread of germs. Please please please invest in individually wrapped plasticware or have your employees place it in the bags with the order. Lastly, I asked for chutney and green chili's or jalapeño. This is a staple at Persian restaurants I've been to. The employee told me that Persians don't eat spice and that they don't carry those items. I said okay but was surprised. It's a shame because I can't be the only one who would like a little green or white chutney with my kabobs and Maybe a chili? In all honestly we won't return. We didn't like the food. read more

Today I had my worst experience at this place. We ordered koobideh and combo 4 with chicken and beef filet. The koobideh was ok but the combo 4 filet did not smell or taste good. It smelled like meat that was left out of the fridge for a long time before being cooked/grilled. We told the server and she spoke to guy inside the kitchen who came out and smelled the plate and told us that they made a mistake and this was actually lamb and not beef filet because they were cooking lamb and beef next to each other and they gave us the lamb by mistake...I know how the beef and the lamb smell and this was not definitely lamb. On top of that we were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. He told us he will make another plate with beef filet. When he brought the second plate it still smelled the same as the first time. At this point I realized they are insisting on feeding us rotten food. We did not eat it and we left the restaurant to try another place in the area...this will probably be the last time I come to this place. Instead of throwing rotten food they're feeding it to customers...very disappointed! read more

I was craving for some gyros one day and decided to try this place. Great food but keep in mind portions are very generous! So come with a big stomach or you'll have leftovers. The food is good. I was dissapointed with the lady at the counter. My card didn't work at the card machine the first time and i went back and asked her to try again. She muttered that she doesn't have time to check out every customer's card and just sounded extremely rude. The payment did go through by the way. We ordered the family plate and it was HUGE and delicious. Also came with a massive plate of rice and 6 side dishes. It was enough food to feed at least 6 hungry people. It ended up being a great deal, coming in at about $12 per person. Love this little place! Been there 3 times now and have not been disappointed. I love their lamb platter. Meat is juicy and cooked perfectly (i.e. Not overcooked, grilled on the outside with a touch of pink in the middle). I always order the red eggplant side dish (I won't even try to name it I will botch the spelling). It is served warm with some to-die-for pita bread (who does not like freshly baked warm bread?!). There are multiple other side dishes to order. I tried the chicken as well and again, cooked to perfection, not dry at all. The place is small but I have not had to wait long for a table so far. The staff is super friendly. If I have to "complain" about anything I would say it is on the pricey side but the food is so worth it I am happy to overlook that detail. I love picking up a quick to-go sandwich at Kabob Cafe. I get a craving for it at least once a month, and I am very fortunate this shopping center is not too far for me. My husband originally found this place when he was on his own one night for dinner and could not wait to take me back or pick me up something. The two main sandwiches I order are either the falafel sandwich or the doner (chicken) sandwich. Both are extremely plentiful and come with a choice of a side salad (veggie, tzatziki, etc. but hummus is extra $). I usually go for the tzatziki because it is my favorite to put on my sandwich. Falafels are my favorite here but since I eat late a lot of nights sometimes the are out, or unfortunately their frier was recently broken. However, the doner sandwich is a great second choice. Very flavorful and the chicken has never been dry the few times I have ordered. Would definitely recommend this place if you are hankering a great pita sandwich. read more

I drove by and read a sign conveying the very sad news that the father of the owners recently passed away. They will reopen on October 18th and I can't wait to get back to support them again. When I hear KEBABS in a place where I wouldn't normally expect to hear kebabs I normally become curious (& excited at the same time) This was the case while doing some last minute Christmas shopping in rural PA. Thee were a ton of options in the massive strip mall, but the Kebab Cafe was the most uncommon and why I skipped right in. They have a pretty big menu for such a small BYOB. I went for the Joojeh platter which included TWO MASSIVE marinated chicken kebabs, a MOUND of basmati rice, a whole lavash and two grilled tomato halves. But wait there's MORE! It also came with the choice of one side salad and boy do they have OPTIONS! I went with the Shirazi salad which was a blend of perfectly marinated and diced cucumbers, tomatoes and onions. The AMOUNT OF FOOD you get for the price ($9.99 for the Platter) makes NO SENSE AT ALL! It's such a STEAL! I had to pack up half of the meal because it's enough for two and there's no way I could've finished it all. The service was GREAT as well from the cashier / counter girl to the chef who hand delivers your food. What a slam dunk of a place in this area! Food is excellent!! Way better then you could expect. Got a mixed kabob , beef , chicken Rice, pita salad. All great especially the meats. The restaurant is impeccably clean . I like that. The service was very chatty. That's ok too. It's in a strange location at Gateway shopping center. It's a strip mall. My only complaint is the price. $20 seems high for a kabob platter. They have less expensive options but combo it really good. They have a$5 lunch special but I can't seem to figure it out . $7 for a falafel sandwich. read more

Can't ask for better Persian/Mediterranean Food! I've been a happy customer of Kabab Cafe, in the Gateway Shopping Center in Wayne PA, for about 10 years. The food is fresh, flavorful and authentic. The service is excellent, and the owner (Mou) and his wife are onsite every day providing excellent food and service; I've never met harder working people dedicated to providing excellent food for a fair price. As the son of an Iranian Armenian, this food activates my middle eastern DNA and make me very happy! Every time I eat it, I am transported back to Iran and the Middle East with memories of meals with my famiy! I live about 20 miles away from their restaurant and love to find reasons to be in the area so I can get takeout! I always buy for a family that is 2 times my own, so that I have lots of leftovers that reheat very well for several days! I sometimes need to order extra pita - which is fresh, hot, and usually doesn't make it home on my drive back. That, of course can cause problems with my wife/family - so I get 'extra' for the drive of Route 422! We love the combo platters - and are partial to the Koobideh, Barg, Lamb Kabab and Joojeh. We often get a side of the hearty Koreschte Morgh or Cooshi (stews) for some variety. Our favorite side dishes are the shirazi and the Masto Kyar. The hummus and the Babaghanooj are very good but are full of garlic - which is great if you love that. It is a bit too strong for my personal tastes. Desserts such as Baklava and Katafil are also there along with homemade Persian Ice Creams. The restaurant offers counter service and utilitarian dine-in seating which is actually very typical of many restaurants in Iran - but is not the place for romantic dining, unless you bring your own cloth tablecloth, candles and soft music! I've been to a number of middle-eastern restaurants in the Philly metro area and have never found better food! So if you love Persian or Middle Eastern food - give Kabab Cafe a try - you'll be happy you did! For this type of place (i.e., speedy, non-table service at modest prices) the food was exceptional. Whenever I'm in the mood for a sandwich, this place will be at (or very near) the top of my list. From the moment we arrived, this place was bustling with activity, yet we were greeted with warm smiles, helpful suggestions, and delightful sights and smells - along with offers for small tastings to help us decide. We had the Doner Kabob and Lamb sandwiches. Sandwiches come with a side, so we tried the Cauliflower and Shirazi salads. Because the views of the side dishes were so inviting, we also ordered the home-made Babaghanooj (smoky and bursting with rich flavor). Everything was warm, fresh, bright and delightful... really good. Once again, I'm a bit ashamed to admit - I was a bit skeptical that this place warranted 4+ stars that other Yelpers have awarded to this restaurant... forgive me, please. I need to have more faith that my fellow Yelpers will steer me right. I feel like they need a 2014 update from me. I've been coming here for years ever since they started. I'll admit that I wish I could make it here more often. I've been here a couple of times this year though. What comforts me about this place is that the food quality has remained consistent from day one. The food I fell in love with on day one is just as good today. So much I would recommend. But I'm still hooked on the doner platter. Take the meat, wrap it in some lavash bread, dip it in the yogurt sauce, and experience heaven on a plate! Many other reviews have stated this and I'll repeat it. The family that runs this place are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. It's a tribute to them that every time I come here it's busy. They have a loyal fan base for a good reason. As a Persian food enthusiast, I was excited to learn about the Kabab Cafe. It seems like there is an Indian restaurant on every corner, but Persian restaurants are few and far between. It's not a fancy place, but it's great for a quick bite. I stopped here for lunch and got the falafel platter. The food takes a few minutes to come out but it's because they are making it fresh to order. No complaints with that! It's a large amount of food for $9.99 and I had to take some home. The falafel itself is fresh and tasty. I liked that it wasn't greasy. It comes with a heaping pile of rice, grilled pita bread, a grilled tomato and a side of your choice. I got the shirazi salad and it was good. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is the rice. It fell flat for me. I've been spoiled by flavorful Persian rice with tahdig. I usually get the Koobideh sandwich or platter or the Khoresht, but this time I decided to try the falafel. As with most falafels you have to eat them when freshly made so don't take this to go as they can get soggy (not the Kebab Cafe's fault). The falafel was delicious when eaten immediately when served - packed with flavor and not too heavy or greasy as some have reported. Some may find the dishes a bit pricey, but the food is always fresh and delicious. They serve the best fries and basmati rice, even compared to neighboring Indian restaurants. read more

I went here to Kabab Cafe. I wanted some good Iranian food. I only got the vegan falafel. It was pretty good.

We ate here a few years ago and it gave us terrible diarrhea. This past weekend we wanted Chipotle but it was temporarily closed so we gave them another chance since it was next door. Bad decision. The food was not good at all and pricey. The lamb was chewy, beef was too dry, rice was tasteless and the sides were not fresh. Worst of all, we all had an awful stomach ache again. Thank goodness we ordered take out to eat at home and the toilet is right here. The lady at the counter is rude and unfriendly. We were asking about the menu and she was very abrupt. Not sure if she's the owner but her attitude will definitely affect their business. We will not make the same mistake 3 times. read more

I stopped here for dinner while in town for business and had an excellent meal. The atmosphere is bright, clean, and contemporary. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I ordered a combo platter with joojeh and koobideh. Both were cooked perfectly and had excellent flavor. For my side salad, the staff recommended the cauliflower salad, which was very tasty. They also have an interesting selection of desserts that looked very good. Bottom line - excellent food, friendly staff, in a clean and warm atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit! read more
