I've been meaning to write this review for a long time, so here goes!
2 years ago, I found myself in the procession of a sweet but neurotic husky named Angel. She had spent the first 7.5 years of her life as a backyard breeding husky with no socialization or training which led to all sorts of issues: choking herself on a leash, severe flight risk, wetting herself when people came in the door, and severe separation anxiety which resulted in several broken teeth - just to name a few. After a number of different trainers, both balanced and pure positive, it wasn't getting much better. In our local husky Facebook group, whenever someone asked for training advice everyone always recommended K911! With this in mind, I went to one of their leash classes and with Katie's help, Angel was suddenly walking at a heel. I immediately booked a personal consult after that.
We began working with Jen to address some of our other problems and cannot even begin to describe how welcomed she made me feel. I wasn't judged or looked down upon. I was told multiple times by other people that I shouldn't have this dog (or any dog at all) because I was in college, because she was a rescue, because I lived in an apartment, etc. Jen showed me every respect of a real client, not just some 19-year-old college kid. That being said, these trainers will not baby you. Prepare to be humbled and to face some hard truths your relationship with your dog. As often we refer to this as "dog training," it's just as much about training the humans as well. But with an ecollar for crate behaviour and a prong for walks, Angel quickly became one of the best-behaved dogs in my apartment complex.
Other than being amazing dog trainers, one of the biggest things that made this team stand out to me is there dedication to dogs and their owners, not to money. Even after working extensively with other trainers (especially large conglomerates), I felt like a parking meter after I couldn't even ask a question unless it was in the direct setting of a paid private lesson. If there was no money on the table, you weren't getting any help. This is most certainly NOT the case with Jonas and his team. In fact, our first leash class with Jonas was part of a fundraiser set up to help a husky named Denali that had escaped their yard and had been hit by a car. Jonas not only found the dog but when Denali's family couldn't afford the vet bills, Jonas paid for Denali's care just so that he wouldn't be put down, and offered free training once he was better so that something like this wouldn't happen again. This was my first impression of K911! and they have only exceeded this impression in the following years. Just as training is a continuous process, these trainers continue to support me while I support my dog while not trying to nickel and dime me along the way. Not only do I feel valued as a client, but the fact Jonas and his team offer so much pro-bono work makes me feel even better about who my money is supporting because it goes back into helping others.
Angel and I owe so much of our relationship to Jonas, Katie, Kelly, Whitney, and Jen. These are probably the only people in Texas I would trust to handle my little nervous Angel. Just this last month, Angel boarded with Kelly while I went out of town. I got daily updates and pictures, and when I got back Angel looked calmer than I had ever seen her when coming out of boarding. For this team, there is no problem too big nor no task too small. I'll recommend them to anyone who will listen. read more
