L5 was a subcontractor on my backyard pool project. They were brought in by a tier 2 contractor who did not tell me. It was for a large patio around the pool. The main person on the job, Isaiah, was rude and was over his head. Concrete pours are a one shot experience. The surface had puddles, and was extremely rough. The umbrella holders were crooked and the handrail holes were out of place and had to be redrilled. When Isaiah would leave his lead guy would spend the rest of the afternoon on his phone. They would work a few hours and then discover they needed more coumpound. At the end, when I asked them to fix a deficiency they wanted to charge me. Maybe they are good at rock pavers, per their website but they don't do patio slabs. read more

The bidding process Let me just start by saying that I reached out to 4 landscaping companies for bids. Its a time consuming process, but I wanted to get pricing and get a feel for the company. The process itself was painful. 1 never called me back, 1 never showed up, 1 took more than expected to get me the estimate back and said the work would take 3 weeks to complete. K5, was referred to me by an acquaintance, and they actually came in cheaper than the competitor, completion time of 1 week, and had the quote back to me within a few days of walking through. Isaiah was a good note taker. Throughout the process, we made some minor changes based on feedback but they really stuck to our budget, and documented everything in the invoice for transparency. The crew The crew was amazing. They showed up on time and left on time everyday -- no half day or short days. They were courteous and they checked in with me for the little things and made some professional suggestions (It did help that I was working from home during covid). Open to feedback (hopefully I didn't annoy them) and extremely communicative. Quality We already had turf, and they did a good job of protecting the turf. They definitely did some quality work, these guys work hard. They did NOT cut any corners. As part of the process, they told me to check out the lights as night to make sure the setup was good. they missed a tree landscaping light that was already existing, and they had to get some tools to fish out the cable under the turf and connect, and then the next day there was another light they missed, and the had to find the cables to fix the existing lighting with the new lighting. They were very receptive to the feedback, and were like "no problem, we'll get if fixed". Work they did included: restucco our old brick wall landscaping lighting, including fence lighting remove existing landscaping, including 2 palm tree stumps level ground Install weed barrier, river rocks, drought tolerant plants moved plumerias DG (decomposed granite) & drainage propane hose under the DG for our firepit filled in gaps with cement in the existing rock (please note they did warn me that the color wouldn't be an exact match) If your thinking about doing a bid, definitely include these guys. I'll check back in a year, and update this based on how everything is holding up. read more

Although Isaiah was super friendly at first when he came out for the quote, I asked him if he could seal the decomposed granite with a stabilizer spray, but he insisted that if it was compacted right, there would be no need. As you can see by the pictures, that is not true. I then asked him if he could come back and fix it. At least refill and patch in the holes. He emailed back and we set a date and time, but HE NEVER SHOWED UP. Then I emailed him back to see maybe we can reschedule, but he stopped replying to me and that was that. My backyard still looks like this and is getting worse every time it rains.... I'm not one to write angry posts, but this really got me angry. I would NOT RECOMMEND him. read more

On one side, the wooden fence was being placed on top of a retaining wall also being built. This review isn't about a project since we never even got to that point. Isaiah came out to my house and I shared with him our general thoughts on what we wanted done with our yard. He took some measurements and told me he'd be in touch. Well I never heard back from him. I followed up via text, email and phone but never got a response back. No idea what happened (hopefully he's okay!), but from a potential customer experience, this was pretty bad. No sweat off my back though since there are plenty of other contractors in the sea. A year ago I hired Isaiah to fix some irrigation issues we were having and do some planting in the backyard. The irrigation work was done well enough, but the planting was terrible. He promised me a fast growing and spreading ground cover, and a year later it looks awful and there is less than 50% coverage. His crew also took out a fully producing, but overgrown lemon tree that I did not agree to and the fruit trees they planted instead have not grown at all in a year's time. He also planted two avocado trees, and one of them is thriving, while the other one is basically dead. They are both on the same irrigation system that he originally installed, and I followed his feeding/fertilizer recommendations. When I asked him to come back out a year later and take a look at both the fruit trees and the ground cover, he missed the first appointment and was a no-show no call. He did come out the next day but basically just shrugged his shoulders and said that what he is seeing is acceptable and how he would have expected it to look. He said he would ask about the avocado tree from his "expert "and also would get back to me with an estimate to replace a sprinkler valve. I have not heard back from him yet, but at this point I would rather hire someone else to fix the work. From the attached pictures, you can see why I am extremely unhappy. read more

Greetings! I had just purchased a home that needed some hardscaping. I found K5 on Yelp and am so pleased I hired them. They did all the demo of an existing pergola and storage shed, jackhammered the existing eyesore concrete, then poured, stamped and sealed all new cement. They even built our new gazebo. K5 has upgraded our deck and outside walkway. The quality of the work is amazing. Isiah and his team certainly go above and beyond to provide exceptional quality, down to the last detail. We live in an older home. so as the progress progressed it became obvious that the scope of what was needed would need to expand. Isiah was so helpful in finding solutions and making suggestions that we never would have considered. He worked on our house with the same care that he would have used on his own house. There have been more cons than pros working with K5 Landscaping. Pros: fair bid, friendly to work with. Cons: lack of attention to detail, damage to personal property (i.e. hose, tree, garden box during demolition), never received check as promised for damaged hose, payment check was cashed before completion of project, lack of follow-up regarding some issues, employees arguing with one another while I was working from home, and significant delays. As you can read from other reviews, there is a lack of follow-through once the project is in process. The communication started off great, however, as the project was nearing an end the communication also dissipated. We had several issues during the project such as irrigation issues that could have been avoided (see picture) and the decomposed granite not being compacted well... it is like walking at the beach with your foot sinking into several areas of the decomposed granite because they did not compact it in layers as they mentioned would occur. We also have a tree that had its roots chopped off during the DG installation and is now slowly dying. I have attempted to reach out to K5 several times since they cashed my check without completing the project, and have received several different dates that they would come by to address the issues. It has been almost six weeks without any resolution, as the response has been that they are busy with other projects but I also was told through text that I was "first on [his employee's] schedule when he comes back." The gentleman who completed the paver patio was great to work with and put a lot of time into the project. My experience was far less than ideal and I would not recommend them when there are so many other companies available. Your project will not be a priority, it will just be one amongst many projects that they will try to complete. read more

NOTE: I did not utilize K5 landscaping services, this is only a review of my interactions with the staff. Isaiah was very friendly and quick to communicate when I requested a quote. We set an appointment time, however no one showed up for the appointment. After 30 minutes, I sent Isaiah a message and he contacted me directly. He said he could be there a different time which unfortunately did not fit in my schedule. I asked if we could set up a new time and have it be firm. I was told that "things come up" sometimes. While Isaiah was very polite and I'm sure K5 services are great based on the other reviews, I can't recommend a company that cannot follow through on a scheduled appointment. read more

When it came time to landscape my backyard, I reached out to yelp to see who and what was out there. I wanted a low maintenance, drought tolerant space with room to for my kids to play in. K5 was among the 6 contractors who came to scope out the yard and provide me with quotes. I took note of each contractor's feedback and questions and I felt it gave me an advantage on how each one responded to my requests and ideas. Isaiah was the 3rd guy to come check it out and he instantly gave out a good vibe. I carefully watched how he measured out everything and actually provided some cool ideas I hadn't thought about. We chose K5 and couldn't have made a better decision. He provided the best all-around, realistic quote and with a timeframe we couldn't budge on. Our son's 5th birthday was soon approaching and needed the yard completed by then to host it. He finished ahead of schedule, didn't cut any corners, and went the extra mile. K5 transformed our hideous yard into a beautiful gathering space for my kids to play in and enjoy. I have no doubt I'll be calling K5 again to do our front yard when the time comes. read more

Well...I made an appt for estimate on their website and got an email and text confirmation. The day off appt Isaiah didn't show up. No call no text no email. I reached out to him and he did answer the phone and told me he was not going to make that appt because he was tied up with a pool. I say okay, when can you come. He said Saturday at 2pm. 40 minutes before 2pm Isaiah texts that he is at his sons scrimmage game in Santa Fe Ranch and won't make the appt. So unprofessional. read more

I own a small condo in the San Diego area and getting pavers has made my outdoor space beautiful and functional. I came across Isaiah during the apex of our COVID-19 crisis who was friendly and approachable. He was happy to help me even though my patio space is less than 400 square feet (a deal breaker for most other landscaping contractors). After the initial site visit and quote, my project was completed within a month. James Rice was the foreman who managed my project and he was knowledgeable, considerate, a good communicator and very polite. He and his associate Brandon were both considerate of my home and in the wake of COVID-19 were responsible about wearing masks and being conscientious about social distancing. I engaged K5 to build a 12' long block retaining wall as an enclosure for a orange tree I wanted to plant. This was a small job and I was told from the git go that they would have to work it in to their schedule around other larger projects. This was fine with me, they could not come as originally scheduled but contacted me to let me know of the re-schedule time and date. The work was completed by two men in one day which about what I had expected. Workmanship is good, new soil behind the retaining was was properly mixed with native "soil". On the whole a most satisfactory experience. read more

think twice before using this company!!! we asked if Isaiah could replace our old French doors and he said no problem. when they got delivered we found out that he had measured incorrectly and delayed the whole project. when he finally got the size correct he tried installing the doors. I don't think he had any idea what he was doing. one of the doors began falling off recently so I looked and wouldn't u know it he (Isaiah) used 1/4 inch screws in all 24 holes to secure my doors. rookie move. no wonder they were falling off. I had to replace both doors with proper hardware. people need to know the truth. please be very cautious!! and yes he did leave a mess with pictures to prove. read more

I have seen walls like ours done wrong so even when they are still new, they are cracking and look terrible, but Isaiah explained why those walls were done that way (poor workmanship and process) and built our wall the right way so we won't have those issues. I don't typically write Yelp reviews, but I feel like I owe it to others to write one especially because I found K5 landscaping here on Yelp. They had great reviews at the time, so I thought I'd give them a call. In November 2019, I called & set up an appointment for an estimate; had a date & time scheduled, husband even took off work to be here for it. K5 landscaping was a NO CALL NO SHOW, even after I texted them if they were still coming. I finally got a response hours after the apt & they had said they were sorry something came up, etc., etc. I know stuff happens so we rescheduled. Isaiah, the owner, came out the next day to give us an estimate. We were very pleased and taken aback by how nice Isaiah was. We decided to hire them for irrigation and drainage for a backyard. *When they started on our project, they brought a trench digger in; they ended up breaking our fence board & even cutting into our internet wires--which my husband & I told them to be careful with just seconds before. We then had to get our internet provider out to fix it. During the project, Isaiah came up with extra costs, such as adding an electric outlet (these things should have already been on the estimate). He placed the sprinklers so high that our lawn mower couldn't go over them. When we called for him to come lower/change them out he kept scheduling a day with us & then being a no show. He also installed sprinklers so close to where we told him we were extending our driveway, so now I'm just watering our drive way. He gave us some 360 sprinkler heads & some that don't even fully rotate. When they placed the drain on our side of our house they didn't dig down deep enough so after the rain storm THE VERY NEXT DAY the drain rose up from the ground & was uncovered. He didn't even slope the dirt where the water was to drain, he said "we didn't pay for that." Again, in order to have him come out we had to schedule & he kept being a no-show. Also, during our payments to him he lost one of our checks somewhere, we had to call & cancel it. Our project wasn't complete with him until end of January 2020. It should not have taken that long. Just a month ago we contacted him to see if his estimate for a retaining wall we originally got a quote for was still good. He replied "you should have taken my last offer ;)." Apparently he misquoted us the first time and now wanted $3k on top of his previous quote for the wall. I recently contacted Isaiah to come out and adjust some of our sprinklers since we're now done with our entire yard. He blew me off by ignoring me & then when I reached out again he said he was too busy. This guy doesn't seem to guarantee his work. The only reason why we hired him in the first place was because he seems to be so kind...so be aware! Also, it seems like he's been getting more negative reviews since 2020; if I were to see the negative ones when I was looking last year I would NOT have hired him. read more
