We met with Paul from Out-Back Turf because of his high reviews from Yelp. We also received pricing from other contractors, but none held a candle to Paul. He must have shown us 20 different grass samples compared to the others who showed us 3 at most. Paul gave us locations in our area where he had worked so we could see his product. We decided to hire Out-Back because of Paul and his low pressure approach, honest answering of questions and the down to earth impression that we got of him. He wasn't out to sell us, he was out to help us decide on the best path for us. The crew began our back yard on a Wednesday morning. I did not meet the crew until that afternoon as I work early. Each one of the men came up to me and introduced themselves to me. They had obviously worked hard that entire day, but were polite and excited about the job at hand. These same guys continued the work on Thursday also. Each afternoon they cleaned up after themselves and left the area free of debris. On Friday afternoon I arrived to about 7 workers finishing our project and Paul working along with them. I was so very impressed at the amount of work they got done in such a small period of time. Even after a very long day of work, the crew was joking with each other and chatting. They obviously enjoy what they do and working together. The install is PERFECT! Even better than I had imagined. They did everything they said they would do and more. They blew off our entire property, even areas where they didn't do an work. They took all the debris and left the area clean and beautiful. After dealing with many different contractors over the last few years, Paul and his team are a breath of fresh air! Honest and quality! I felt comfortable and assured after speaking with him that they had a superior product,price and warranty. The crew showed up on time and did an excellent job. The neighbors have all complimented us on our new yard. Each step in the process was carefully done from the removal of the old grass , leveling of the dirt to the carefully laid pavers. Paul and his crew at Out-Back Turf Co. did a great job with our front and back yard. We had synthetic turf installed in the back, and a dried river in the front. Unlike other companies I've gotten qoutes from (4 in all), Paul was the only one who suggested incorporating some synthetic turf in dried river to make it look more organic (and it really does!). Paul was also the only one who didn't simply want to cap off all of the irrigation system where the synthetic turf was installed. This allowed me to rinse off the lawn with the sprinklers if my dog peeped, pooed or got dirt on it. It is no wonder why the other companies promised job completion in as little as 1 to 2 days. Out-Back, on the other hand, finished the job in a little over a week, and we are all the better for it. He was meticulous and paid great attention to what and how things were done. In fact, when it came to the turf, Paul did most of if by himself. If you are having a hard time getting a hold of him, he is probably busy doing the work... I scheduled a date and time with Paul to come out and provide me an estimate for my yard. When I ended the call we both confirmed that they will be at my residence Thursday, 5/14 at 5:00PM. I had the pleasure of working with Out-Back Turf when they built the new turf field at the Alpine Elementary School. This was a difficult task that Paul and his crew tackled with ease. I have had Paul and his crew of pro's out to my house 3 times now to do different turf areas for me, and they are always top notch. They recently put in a 50 foot putting green for me that looks so real, my kids keep asking if it is real grass! There are so many good things to say about Outback Turf that this review could be boring, but I will hit the major ones: Paul and his team are meticulous, and have a great attention to detail. I have had a couple other companies do turf for me, and they never pay attention to the small things that make turf look and feel great. In addition, Paul listened to what "I wanted", and made it work and all the while turned my ideas into something really first class. If you have had a mediocre or bad turf installed, you know what I'm talking about, bad seams, lumps, the black matting showing, areas of turf not tacked or nailed down properly. Paul examines every area of his work (and his guys) and makes sure there are no mistakes or anything missed. His crew actually complained Paul is "too" meticulous- hogwash!! There is no such thing, and that is what makes these guys real pros, the kind of contractor you hire more than once because you know he's going to get it right! And here is the best part: They are professional and clean up after themselves (how many contractors leave a huge mess and don't clean up? Most, if you have had any work done, you know what I'm talking about...) You'd never think this was such a big deal until you sink your life savings and hard work into your house, and then have a contractor leave a huge mess because they just don't care, it's not their house! The owner Paul Dyke and his crew are hard working, honest and genuinely focused on providing the best result. They removed about 2900 sq. ft. of old live turf that was gopher infested and dying from lack of water. What they installed looks natural, doesn't require much maintenance and best of all needs no water. I got many quotes from other turf companies all of which sent out a sell's rep who knew nothing about the installation process. I had already ripped out the old soil, installed new drainage, and installed the base material myself. I just needed a turf company to come in and install the weed barrier and artificial turf. All of the other companies had their fixed per square foot price not even recognizing that I had already done more than half the work. Paul from Out-Back Turf Company was the owner and lead foreman of his crew. He recognized the work that I had already done and gave me a fair price for what was left. I wish I could give negative stars! This guy gives contractors a bad rap. Not only does my turf have sink holes the seam is jagged and totally noticeable. Paul patched in an area with turf that doesn't match the other turf he installed. He said he would come back and fix it but needed to collect a check. Guess what.... never heard of him again. He won't answer my calls so then I texted him... he said to "F off" and he would only come back if I pay him more money. After measuring his turf that they installed I found out that they also charged me for 60 more sq ft than I received. Looked him up on the CSLB and he isn't licensed anymore and someone is going after his bond. read more

So, I don't know what kind of work they do! I read a lot of positive reviews on yelp & requested a quote. I did not hear back from them. I looked up their phone # and tried calling. The message I got is that the phone # had been changed and the forwarding # was unknown. I went to their website and found another # which said to call the original # I called. I e-mailed them twice - and I have never heard a peep. They may be very busy this time of year - I imagine all the turf companies are - and I noted in the emails, request for quote, etc. that my backyard area was only 250 square feet - so maybe they only wanted big jobs - but IMHO their customer service sucks.
