The surf and turf dumplings were recommended to me. Big thumbs up for them. So rich with flavor. The rolls were big and a great variety and creativity. Loved them all. Good service too. The issue is at this price point, that's not who we're comparing Feng to. This place is trying for a fine dining experience. The quote from the "About Us" section on their website is as follows: "Feng Chophouse is Downtown Hartford's premier dining experience. Each time we set our table we invite you to join us for the refinement of fine dining and the flare of a modern casual environment." When evaluating with this as the baseline, Feng Chophouse unfortunately falls well short of that goal. First, the good, the service was very helpful and attentive. Patient when we were a bit slow making our initial selections but always available when needed and helpful when we had some concerns. We started with some nigiri appetizers. In our party of 4 we tried the wagyu, otoro and uni nigiri and all were good. I personally had the otoro and thought it was excellent. We also did the bone marrow. Unfortunately one member of our party has celiac and I asked if they could ensure the bread came on the side, however it was on the plate with the marrow so the risk of cross contamination was high. When I pointed this out, they offered to remake but we declined and said we'd just share it among the three of us without celiac. Unprompted, the waiter offered to reduce the price of this item which was appreciated. My wife and I both had cocktails, she picked something off their specialty list, I believe it was a cherry blossom and I just had an old fashioned. Both cocktails were very good as well. Now, for the less than stellar part. For the main course my kids split a dry aged NY strip, my wife had the sea bass and I went for the lamb. We asked for both the strip and the lamb to be medium rare, however the steak was a bit more towards the rare side with a very steep gradient from the outside to the middle where it was almost raw and the lamb was a little more than medium, approaching medium well. Unfortunately this left the lamb a bit dry and while the flavor was good it definitely took away from the meal. The kids found the strip a bit tough and stringy in some parts and my wife found the sea bass underwhelming. For sides we had the mushrooms (very good), baby bok choy and the brussels sprouts (both of which were decent but not noteworthy). It was a decent meal, but at this price point and with this level of expectation setting, decent is a bit less than we were expecting. All in all, I didn't hate the experience and again I want to emphasize that the service and the appetizers were quite good, but the mains left a bit to be desired. We probably won't be back next time we're in town.

If you're new to hot pot, I encourage you to try it out…read more I came here with three others on a snowy weekend. All of us have lived in China, so this was a fun time for us. The menu is online, viewable by scanning the QR code in your booth, and at the end then you pay at the cashier not through the website. We each ordered the mini hotpot with two broths and got a table full of meats and veggies and even ordered a second round of meat (in hindsight, that was too much and we weren't able to finish it all). The sauce bar was fully stocked, and the ingredients were fresh. The bowls and spoons were a bit hard to find though and I had to ask for a staff member for help. The fruit bar was a bit empty, but there was enough for a dessert. The wait staff was very friendly, though they kept forgetting to refill our water, and we kept asking them about it. Overall, a great experience!
