The response was immediate, and Mark came out promptly to assess the work. The quote for trimming the front yard tree and cabling two large trees was very reasonable. Scheduling was easy and quick, and communication throughout was excellent. They even sent a crew ahead of time to clear the snow around the trees at no charge -- such a thoughtful and professional touch. When I needed two large trees removed from the side of my home a neighbor recommended K&J and I'm glad she did. Firstly, they answered the phone when I called! Amazing. Go elsewhere. Didn't cut down trees per the contract. I was told I didn't have to be on site for them to return and cut the pieces into the agreed upon, manageable sizes. When workers arrived, I was leaving for work. One of the men told me I had to be there to show him what to do. I walked with him into my backyard and he proceeded to ask if I was married, where my husband was, what my name was, am I single, etc. Never once asked me to point out the very obvious work to be done. K&J Tree Services We chose K&J because we prefer to support local businesses. We contacted K&J to remove a sizable limb that broke from a tree and lodged into our chimney, and to cut a fallen tree into logs and remove it from our property. Their specialist came to our property to view the scope of work and provide a proposal. To access the chimney, a tree in front of our house that provided us significant shade and privacy, needed to be trimmed. We specifically said that we did not want any extra branches cut off other than the bare minimum to do the work, and K&J agreed that only two (2) branches on that tree would be changed. One would be cut off and the second trimmed back approximately six (6) feet. The agreed proposal included these elements: *removal of one (1) branch of a tree that would allow the K&J truck access to the side of the house near the chimney; the branch was also touching the electrical feed from the road in front of our house *cut back one (1) branch by approximately six (6) feet to allow their truck access to the side of the house *cut a fallen tree into logs and remove the logs from the property *clean up debris from the above work K&J did NOT execute their proposal. Specifically: *Relative to the key agreement to NOT cut branches unnecessarily, K&J cut off eight (8) branches in their entirety, stripping that side of the tree and virtually removing any shade or sense of privacy to the front of our house *Debris was not removed from the side of the house where the logs were placed temporarily, and debris was not removed from the back yard. We called K&J to address the situation and, one week later, we were told that the extra limbs were cut because they (the branches) would pose an issue to the electrical feed wire "in the future". This was not discussed when we met and not in the scope of work proposed. The decision to cut eight (8) branches was done arbitrarily by K&J. The conclusion is that, if you care about the landscaping on your property and prefer to work with a company that lives up to its commitments, we would highly recommend that you engage a tree service other than K&J. read more

This company is awful. Debris was left all over the yard. The equipment tore up my lawn. John, the stump grinder contractor, left a massive piece of the stump he had to chainsaw off and a ridiculous amount of shavings. It took multiple efforts to address these issues with the office, then I watched the truck that came out to survey the damage drive into my mailbox. They sparsely planted some grass seed and picked up the massive chunks of torn up lawn. The large piece of stump and shavings were left for me to deal with. It took several hours for me to clean up all the shavings from the stump grinding, I had to move the top of the stump myself, and a good portion of the stump that was ground remains. Could not ask for better service, my neighbor used them to remove cut trees in her back yard during the removing of her tree's they broke my fence, they were right on top of fixing what was broke , so I decided to do business with them I called spoke to Jess who was wonderful, she let me know they would repair the fence and she worked with me to have them come to trim my tree, excellent price and 3 very hard workers, shout out to Wayne , Nick and Lorenzo you guys were amazing !! My wife and I own a home in northern Hamden that was hit hard by the May 2018 tornadoes, and these guys cut a pathway through utterly impassable roads and knocked on our door at 8am the next morning to help clear our driveway. And through all of our interactions with every one of them -- the estimators and the on-site crews and the folks answering the office phones & emails, all working 100 hour weeks for more than a month -- we experienced nothing but professionalism and exemplary work. They did crane-based & climbing work all around our house, in tight and dangerous places, and executed everything absolutely flawlessly. Their office folks were excellent at dealing with our insurance company. We hired them directly later that year to remove a large tree that developed a dangerous lean after the tornado, and our experience was equally as positive. I have used K&J on 2 separate occasions and they were fantastic in both instances. I have several huge old maple trees on my property. On the first job, they trimmed up several of them and on the most recent job, they took the largest one down; it was massive. Everyone who came to work on my property was professional, top-notch, friendly and respectful. The guys working the chain saws and other equipment are amazing. Many of these trees are very close to my home and I never worried about damage; they know what they are doing. My lawn suffered greatly from the trucks and equipment - big ruts everywhere. K&J took care of everything! All debris was removed, the ruts were filled in with soil and seeded. One of my shrubs was destroyed, and they replaced it. K&J is a great company! read more

For the most part I was very happy with K&J Tree Service. The gentleman who came out to the house for an estimate was very punctual, helpful and professional. The crew showed up on time on the date scheduled and continued to show up bright and early the next 2 days. Then when it came time to pick up all the wood their guy came sooner than I was expecting and had to come back 2 more times to complete the job - even after hours! All the men involved were very friendly and hard workers. Even the girl on the phone doing the scheduling was very friendly. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because there was a fair amount of damage to my lawn where some of the trees came down. But I realize some is to be expected. read more

K & J Tree Service..... Came out to our home (Dan, Arborist) within 24 hours to give us a quote, we had received via snail mail a $600 discount coupon. LOL, we received the coupon and needed tree work done! Do they have ESP? Dan schooled us on our tree(s), btw he is so knowledgeable, ask the questions you have and he will answer. Our Maple and White Birch were trimmed to perfection. Our Maple trimmed away from our house. Then the Birch, last winter (Feb 2018) took a toll on her, the wet snow caused one of her limbs (she has three) to bend over into the frozen snow. We went out to save her by breaking the snow and release her limb, but this Spring she showed signs of her damage (no leaves on her outer branches). We had a neighbor that thought is was a disease, but once we spoke with Dan, he assured us that is was the frozen snow. All in all our experience was the best with K&J, we highly recommend them. We were given an estimate which we agreed to after someone came to survey the job, and we signed into agreement. On the day of the job, only half the crew arrived, and they arrived an hour late, and from the time they arrived it felt like they tried to negotiate increasing the price or else refused to do the work. Even before seeing the job area, the crew grumbled about how this was out of scope from the agreement. I tried calling the office manager a few times while the foreman was upset about the job and that he needed more equipment. My phone calls kept going to their answering service without responses. For an hour and half, their crew sat there in front of my home, refusing to begin work because what they thought they were going to do as written in the agreement was not what they expected and they did not have enough crew and equipment to move the trees while they did their job.. They blamed the person who came to provide the estimate that he did not estimate correctly and told me I had to talk to him. When he called he acknowledged all sorts of excuses and said that K&J Tree Removal was canceling my agreement for no apparent reason, and that they were sending their crew to another job... I was disgusted, specially after I took time off from work and now we are delayed by 3 weeks and our landscaping bushes that were to be planted after this tree removal job are going to die because they cannot be planted until the trees are removed. What a dishonest, irresponsible and unprofessional company... crew blaming the person who came to survey and provide the estimate, and office staff cared less and says hey your agreement is canceled. If you see their flyer in the mail, please toss it and save yourself losses and plenty of aggravation. At the time of providing an estimate, they come up with all sorts of promises about being a large company that has the right crew and equipment, when in fact it proved in my case to be untrue. They did not have the equipment nor the crew to handle even this small project. What they do have are false promises and plenty of glossy flyers. What I still cannot understand is why the foreman who was sent with some equipment and crew was trying to estimate the job when he was sent to do the job based on the estimate and signed agreement. And by the way, they have penalties if you did not inform them three days before the job, however they consider they can cancel on you on the day of the job and tell you that it should have cost more. They were my second highest quote so there was no way I was going to pay more, at the last minute as I have quotes from other companies that quoted below them. read more

These dudes took care of some pretty big and intrusive trees in our yard recently and did a fantastic job. Didn't get charged extra for dealing with moving snow and they cut pieces into firewood-sized logs (we will need to split further, but knew that going in). They were even awesome enough to move all the wood together from multiple trees, so we don't have to go all over yard to collect stuff to split. Price was competitive and they were really quick once they got to work. My daughter had a fun time watching them cut the whole tree, since they have a lot of mobile equipment. Will be calling them again since we have a million trees in our yard. We caught them during a sale in the winter and got a pretty good deal. The other thing that I liked about this company was they called to ask me if they could come earlier than we had originally scheduled. This ended up working out particularly well for my family. Had a bunch of trees to cut down on the property. Very quick and responsive estimate. It all goes down hill from there. Scheduled service date for 2 weeks down the road. On the day they were supposed to arrive they came late, therefore not done in time. Very poor communication between the people on the ground and the office. Told different things by different people, resulting in us unable to have them finish the work for over 2 weeks. Then they have different people from cutting crew removing the trees. Initially we were thinking of keeping some of the wood for firewood, but we changed our minds before they even came to cut any trees. We spoke with the office 3 times to say we wanted all of the wood removed, they assured us it would be, but of course it wasn't, had to ask the crew back again. When they were onsite my husband went to talk to the driver, I guess he was annoyed that he had to come back and ignored my husband. So unprofessional. When I spoke with the office about this they said they'd "talk with the driver", so really nothing. So all in all it took ~4 weeks for all the work to get done from first cut. I realize this was a big job, but seriously, 4 weeks?! Poor communication, no one knows anything and delayed response during work. But they are very good about collecting payment, calling everyday now since work finally completed. read more

The guy who did the original estimate was very professional. After contracts signed, they came a couple of weeks later. Snow was still on ground. They did not use any mats or plywood! Their trucks were stuck in my yard and made a huge mess! They left it for weeks! I called and sent emails and asked to put hay down. I was reassured they would be back to clean up the mess when thaw was over. They left tree branches sticking out of ground, a piece of plywood they had taken from my back yard nailed to fence laying face up with nails sticking out. They left sticks all over my deck and threw some of the other limbs over the fence to my neighbors yard. They broke solar lights, a ceramic garden frog and my daughters handprint stone! They asked to get paid and I gave them 1/2 and told them when they finished they would get the rest. Well finally last week they came to clean-up and reassured me they would finish cleaning after I gave them my cc. They didn't even bring enough dirt to cover ruts and holes. They just threw seed over roots and ruts! My husband called and the owner came out and my husband showed him not only in our yard , but my neighbors yard. He said they were done and thats how they left it! AWFUL! Do not hire them! My husband said , he was going to cancel cc payment and the owner said, I guess I will see you in court. I was looking to get tree removed, only access was from neighbors yard. K & J were the most expensive of all quotes, but during consultation dan promised me how respectful they would be of the yard. He said they had these diamonds Matt that would prevent tires from going into the yard, the trunk would be cut down in sections, and this would all be done within a few hours. He also stated that they leave the yard better than it looks when they got there and they don't take payment until the job is done. The tree was cut down, they laid no diamond Matt in my neighbor's yard, the entire trunk was cut down in one swipe and laid diagonally across my neighbor's yard, then they requested the money and left. My neighbor is wondering why there is a large stump laying across their yard and when I called back to wonder why they didn't take it they said it would be another day before they get it removed. The yard is a mess and I'm frustrated as well as my neighbor. I would not have used these guys if they set proper expectations, said whatever it took to make the sale without actually doing it. read more
