We hired Groundworks to install an earth anchor system to stabilize our foundation. What was supposed to be a preventative foundation project turned into a prolonged, incredibly stressful experience involving property damage, delays, miscommunication, and an ongoing dispute over compensation.
The project was originally scheduled for March 30-31, but the work ultimately extended from April 1 through April 24. Throughout the process, we experienced repeated issues, including a no-show and scheduling miscommunication, significant disruption to our property, and equipment becoming stuck and sinking into our yard. Long metal rods created access issues around our garage and deck, and damage occurred to our deck, driveway, and other areas of the property. Our internet cable was also pulled during the work, which was especially disruptive while working from home.
We were left dealing with damage that required professional assessments and substantial repair estimates. Our deck repair estimate alone exceeds $13,500, and our total documented repair estimates exceed $70,000.
What has been particularly frustrating is the handling of the situation after the work was "completed", meaning they pulled from the project and tried getting out of there as quickly as they could. Despite our documentation, photographs, repair estimates, and communications regarding what occurred, the insurance adjuster handling the claim has valued the damage at approximately $11,000. That figure falls drastically short of the documented cost of repairs, and our efforts to have the offer revised have been unsuccessful.
This has become far more than an inconvenience. We are now left trying to resolve a substantial property-damage dispute while facing the prospect of significant out-of-pocket costs to restore our home and property.
We hired Groundworks because we wanted to protect our home's foundation and address concerns before they became worse. Instead, we have spent months documenting damage, water seeping in, obtaining estimates, communicating with management and insurance representatives, and trying to obtain a resolution that reflects the actual cost of repairs.
I understand that construction projects can encounter unexpected challenges. What matters is how a company handles those challenges, takes responsibility, and works toward a fair resolution when a customer's property is damaged. Based on our experience to date, we are extremely disappointed with the outcome and the lack of a satisfactory resolution.
I would encourage anyone considering Groundworks to carefully document their property before work begins, photograph the entire work area, get all project details in writing, and understand how damage claims will be handled before signing a contract.
We are still seeking a fair resolution for the damage to our property. As of the date of this review, this matter remains unresolved.
