The administration and staff at Gardner Heights has been amazing. I was struggling with the next…read morestage of life while working full time and trying to care for a parent with more and more health complications. After a stint in the hospital for dehydration and weight loss do to loss of appetite, Mom was transferred to Gardner for her short term rehab. It was then discussed and determined that she required a higher level of care than what I would be able to provide at home myself and the Administration assisted in completing the paperwork to transition Mom to a full time resident. Dreading the difficult discussion with Mom I got right to the point and said that I started the paperwork to keep her at the facility and she looked at me and said "Good, I'm happy about that." Even she realized that she needed the care she was being provided and accepted that she was in the best place for her and that is was not the same as her last 100 day stay at a different facility where all she wanted to do was leave. While the facility does show its age, you need to remember not to judge a book by its cover. The feeling that your elderly mother is happy and cared for mor than makes up for aesthetics.

He was brought there on a stretcher, but after two weeks of physical therapy, he was up and running again (ok, maybe not running, but he was walking again). I was impressed with the progress the staff made with my father's rehabilitation. My interactions with the staff were positive and informative. Calendars of actvities are readily available for all to see as visual reminders. Staff is often seen seeking out residents to participate and encouraging them to try something new. Registered dietitians meet with residents/families to ensure the dietary needs are met while there are 3 dining rooms in which to eat your meals. They also provide cooking opportunities for residents to prepare a special dish for their dinners. Energy abounds in this facility following The Planetree Model of care. Rooms are spacious and extremely clean. Wifi/internet is available to all. Visiting hours are 8 am to 8 pm and families and guests are encouraged to spend time with their loved one. My Father in law has an apartment in Independent Living while both of my parents now live in the Memory Care unit. So we've experienced two different levels of need based care. I've found that the Spring Meadows staffers are very good. The nurses, the aids and even dining room staff really seem to care about the residents and try to make the difference to keep them engaged and make sure they're well cared for. I'll also add that the office staff and the general manager coordinate very well with us, the family members, to help with the details involved of having an aging parent who needs the assistance of this kind of facility. They are always helpful and respond promptly if I call with questions or requests. It's been a blessing to have my parents be able to live at Spring Meadows and get the good care that they need.
