He was brought there on a stretcher, but after two weeks of physical therapy, he was up and running again (ok, maybe not running, but he was walking again). I was impressed with the progress the staff made with my father's rehabilitation. My interactions with the staff were positive and informative. I don't consider myself a visitor at this point, although I've visited friends I made among the residents two or three times a week for several years., I started gettig involved with Gardner Heights twenty years ago playing music for churches services with First Baptist Church. I even did a music service for a couple of years when First Baptist was between pastors. I've done a Men's Club, and book club, as well as Jerry's Place where I told stories, sang and played guitar and read short stories from my books. In the twenty years I've volunteered and visited friends, I have come to see Gardner Heights from the inside at all hours of the day and night. My wife Ruth spent the last three and a half months of her life there, and the staff couldn't have been more attentive and caring than they were. As soon as they bring back volunteers, I'll be one of the first to come. I've already given notice. :-) I've performed at several nursing homes in the area. Many are newer and more beautiful, but none could match the loving kindness of the staff and administration at Gardner Heights.

Calendars of actvities are readily available for all to see as visual reminders. Staff is often seen seeking out residents to participate and encouraging them to try something new. Registered dietitians meet with residents/families to ensure the dietary needs are met while there are 3 dining rooms in which to eat your meals. They also provide cooking opportunities for residents to prepare a special dish for their dinners. Energy abounds in this facility following The Planetree Model of care. Rooms are spacious and extremely clean. Wifi/internet is available to all. Visiting hours are 8 am to 8 pm and families and guests are encouraged to spend time with their loved one. My Father in law has an apartment in Independent Living while both of my parents now live in the Memory Care unit. So we've experienced two different levels of need based care. I've found that the Spring Meadows staffers are very good. The nurses, the aids and even dining room staff really seem to care about the residents and try to make the difference to keep them engaged and make sure they're well cared for. I'll also add that the office staff and the general manager coordinate very well with us, the family members, to help with the details involved of having an aging parent who needs the assistance of this kind of facility. They are always helpful and respond promptly if I call with questions or requests. It's been a blessing to have my parents be able to live at Spring Meadows and get the good care that they need.
