I've heard so many great things about Jupiter so when I was in the area for the Bay Area Book Festival, I knew I had to try it out. It's located right in downtown so close to Bart and there's also lots of street parking around. Super easy to access. We came in for an early dinner on a Sunday evening. Signs said to "seat yourself" so we walked around the patio to find a table and enjoy the nice weather. There were a lot of people there but we were able to find seating quickly and there was tons of seating inside. The patio is so spacious and I was loving the decor. I just know it looks extra amazing at night time with the string lights and a fire pit. A perfect date night spot. Each table has a sign with a QR code so you can order and pay right on your phone via Toast. They also have their staff walking around so you could order with the staff as well. I got a strawberry jam cider ($5 half pint) and I appreciated that they offered different sizes. This cider was really good and if I were hanging around longer, I def would've gotten the larger size. As for food, we opted to share the Mediterranean salad ($12 small) and get a pizza (half Juno/half xanthia - $25). The Mediterranean was good esp if you like artichokes and feta cheese. The Juno pizza was our fav. I usually don't love jalapeños, but it worked really well on this spicy pizza. I thought I was going to loveeee the Xanthia because of the potatoes and garlic. But in my opinion it was just ok. The potatoes were kinda bland and I feel like it could've used more garlic and bacon to really take it to the next level. Jupiter has been around for a long time and is consistently a solid spot to grab dinner before a show or to catch up with some friends. On our most recent visit we stopped by for dinner before John Legend's show at the Greek. We walked in around 6pm, their outdoor seat is first come first serve and we luckily snagged a table for four right away on the patio. School was out, so maybe that's why we got so lucky. It definitely seemed a lot less busy than I'm used to. Between the four of us we shared a small Mediterranean salad, large Eutropia pizza, and large Gaia pizza. This was the perfect amount of food for us, we had about 3 slices left over at the end. Food was great, service was nice, and there was live music which was a nice bonus. read more

Though it was a bit salty and had me reaching for the water glass a couple times. The pork riblets sauce was great, however they were a tad dry and wasn't the texture I had in mind for bbq pork riblets. Ambiance is nice and we were seated on second floor. I've been coming here for almost 20 years and I've never written a review! It's one of my favorite places for pizza and beer in the entire Bay Area! The pizza is great (lots of choices and interesting toppings, relatively thin and very chewy crust) and there are quite a few nice appetizers. Their own beers are quite good (the Hefe is one of the best I've ever had in that style and their XHP is an excellent lighter IPA kind of thing) and they have a nice selection of other local beers. The service can be a bit hit or miss, but the outside area is lovely. read more

The food here is fantastic! Especially the pizza. The prices are honestly pretty fair compared to what you are served. This place is known for their beers more than the food, but I would take kids here on a weekday night or weekend lunch. Their outdoor patio seating is very aesthetic. The only "problem" I had with the place was that my fork was dirty when first recieved (had some sort of leftover food on it), so I was concerned about the sanitary aspect of the place. But I asked for it to be replaced and that was that. The ordering system of the food is completely digital for the food- they have a QR code for the table, you place the order and pay through the phone. This was our first visit to Jupiter for dinner. Since we had a rather large party, they were only able to accommodate seating for us inside. This being said, I want to plan ahead next time to try to sit outside since the outside seating looked beautiful. We like the fact that we could order half and half pizzas for an affordable price. So we ordered three half-and-half pizzas. All of us really enjoyed our meals, we also ordered a large beet salad and bruschetta to share. The salad had nice touches like goat cheese, two types of beets, and Mandarin oranges with candied pecans tossed in the bowl. I didn't eat any of the bruschetta, but the kids devoured it. For the half and half pizzas, we ordered a Half Andromeda and half mercury pizza, a half Cassiopeia and half IO pizza, a half Eutropia and half Xanthia pizza. The girls shared the half Andromeda and half mercury pizza and they loved it. I was glad that my niece was able to take it back to her dorm to snack on later. Our teenage son had a half Cassiopeia and half I/O pizza. He really loved the IL pizza side better but said that the Cassiopia was OK because all the flavors of it were really mild but he would prefer ordering a different have pizza next time. As for the pizza I ordered, it was the half Eutropia and half Xanthia pizza and I think next time I would love to get a whole Xanthia pizza to eat all by myself. The Eutropia side was OK but the Xanthia side was just too delicious so it made it hard to want to finish the other side. Blondies used to be our go to pizza spot in Berkeley but now that they're gone, Jupiter is such a nice upgrade from our former pizza travels to Berkeley. Solid 3.5 stars We went here to eat before watching a concert at the UC theater. Thankfully there was no wait on a Wednesday night - Although the patio was actually quite full so I can see it being busy on weekends. The patio was actually quite beautiful with a lot of greenery and some redwoods in the back with patio chairs that you can sit near. You order with a QR code on the table and they have runners that bring out the food to you. The runners were all really nice and gave us all the extras that we needed like toppings and napkins. There's a good beer selection as well so you can have pizza and beer (which is the perfect combination!) We couldn't decide on our pizza so went with half and half a meat pizza and a chicken pizza (Eutropia and Gaia). The Eutropia is more traditional and actually more flavorful than the Gaia. The pizza was a good size but a little pricey at $25; enough for 2 people to devour. I did read reviews that sometimes the pizzas are hit or miss in terms of how they are baked; thankfully our pizza was baked very well that day! read more

Was craving pizza and beer a few nights ago so we made our way to Jupiter. Street parking is always available around the University area, I parked a few blocks away so I could get my steps in. They had plenty of outdoor seating and our table was away from most others which was nice. The outdoor space was lively and did fill up shortly after we arrived. Side note to be extra cautious on the stairs, while we were there, two different people fell at completely different times! Due to Covid, Jupiter now has a mobile ordering system which means no more waitstaff, only "food runners". The host seats you (not taking reservations so first come, first served) and you scan the QR code at your table to place your order online. You are required to enter your credit card information when placing the order. If you forget to close your tab, at the end of the night, Jupiter will close it and automatically add a 15% gratuity. Beware that after you place your order, you SHOULD NOT close the tab/browser on your phone. I accidentally closed it and I could not recover it. The manager (who was nice about it) had to print the bill and we paid the old fashioned way. FYI, I think they may be no cash right now. We started with the beer and cheese fondue which was good but not great. For drinks - my friend had the sour stout with zin grapes which was indeed very sour. I ordered a half pint of the imperial stout and a "taster" of the SuiCider which is a mix of a few ciders - I combined the two to make a Snakebite, it was perfect. I appreciate that there are options for half pints and tasters. The price of my drink came out the same as it would have had I ordered a full pint to begin with! Bring ID because they do check when the food runner delivers the drinks to your table. After the fondue and drinks arrived things slowed down quite a bit. We inquired of the staff and they said that the kitchen had gotten really busy all of a sudden. My friend got the Juno Pizza and I had the Galileo. This is such a cool bar and from what I hear a true UCB hang out institution! They do have indoor and outdoor seating but the outdoor seating is miles better and be sure to head on outside for a better ambience. They have space heaters and a fire pit in the middle but we did get a little chilly. They have live music on weekend nights and the band takes requests which was pretty cool. We tried a bunch of their beers and our favorite was the Nitro stout! We also got the Elote pizza and this was delicious, I can come again just for this pizza all the way from South Bay. Typically, I don't go out of my way to leave a bad review, but after visiting Jupiter a few times over the years, I'm 100% certain this place will never receive another penny of my money or my time of day. Yesterday, I went to Jupiter with some colleagues of mine and was already pretty apprehensive about it given previous experiences, but I went against my better judgment and was not surprised about my experience. When we arrived, the host asked us did we want to sit indoors or outdoors. We decided outdoors initially and he let us know we could grab our own seating. To our disappointment, there was none available. FYI, the wait staff's interaction with you from a customer POV is to bring you your food/drinks (that you order via phone - not through your "server"). When I asked a nearby waitress if there was any seating, she told me I had to find my own and "good luck." We didn't end up finding any seating outdoors so decided on a table by the window indoors. When we got there, a woman brought us water and quickly walked away. No straws. Before I drink water, I inspect the glass and honestly didn't even have to look too close. I saw lipstick stains on my water glass, which disgusted me. I brought it to the server's attention and they brought me a new glass of water without any sort of apology or acknowledgement of wrongdoing. We ordered elote salad, the Aries, and whatever the pizza is with the artichoke (not coming to mind because it was barely memorable). We also ordered a few beers and for myself wine. We received the elote salad without any corn. My wine glass also came with a lipstain on the glass. At this point, we had been okay with their subpar waiting performance, but this indicated an issue that crossed the server, bartender, and cook's domains, highlighting a culture of subpar performance and general disregard. We brought the wine glass and elote salad to the servers attention and she brought back another gentleman who at least seemed sincere in wanting to offer me a cleaner glass. As far as the salad, the server gave us a cup of corn on the side. By the time I received my second glass, I immediately inspected it and found another lipstick stain. I showed it to my colleagues because I couldn't believe it. They agreed, I hadn't even taken a sip, wasn't wearing lipstick, and that the glass had come this way. I walked straight to the bar and let the bartender know I wanted to speak to a manager. They let me share my experience before noting they were the manager (which I didn't care for the whole undercover manager trope thing, but that's for another essay). Initially they asked "are you sure that's not from your lips?" Like, please be for real and don't gaslight me in front of my face. I know genuine concern and I know faux concern/defensiveness. He kept telling me how busy they were and how he needed to make other peoples experience better than mine (as if that would make me feel better when it really completed the souring). Instead of offering to repair, the manager asked what would I like for him to do. Ummm, maybe comp the meal or the drinks? I asked if he could do that and he told us he would come over to our table to give us a formal apology. He never came. I closed our tab and we left. Jupiter has awful customer service. I will never step foot into that establishment again, it's too many minority owned businesses out here to support and give money to instead of spending money at Jupiter's. Consider this a warning, but hey if half washed glasses, incomplete orders, and awful customer service are your jam, I would definitely go to Jupiter. read more

Jupiter is one of my favorite places to go have some food and drinks at in Berkeley. It's very centrally located in downtown Berkeley, right next to BART and the Target. The entrance is deceptively small, as it has an enormous patio area behind the building that also winds along the side and goes pretty far back, so there is ample seating room available! Especially in the warmer months, this is one of my favorite patios to go have some pizza and beer on. There's indoor seating as well with an upstairs and downstairs area, although the beautiful back patio is my favorite. Service tends to be rather quick and friendly, and they use a mobile order system where you just order the food and drinks on your phone through a QR code on the table, and then they bring it out to you. Although the pizza can sometimes take a while to make and be brought out, I've found it to be quite efficient and they're very accommodating with any requests that you may make. Besides, at least it's always hot and fresh once it does come out! For food, a lot of the pizzas seem to be space themed with their naming, being named after the moons of Jupiter. Get it? Cause the place is named Jupiter? I think it's cute! My favorite pizzas so far seem to be the Cassiopeia and the IO. I love white sauce pizzas, and these two are absolutely sublime! My partner tends to prefer the Cassiopeia one, which has chicken and bbq sauce on it, but I also absolutely love the IO, which also has chicken and then comes with pesto and olives, among other things. Both of them are very fresh and delicious. All of the ingredients complement the piping hot and perfectly baked pizza perfectly! I don't care for super thick crusts, so I like the way they make the pizzas here. They also have plenty of IPAs and other beer and wine to choose from to accompany your pizza. I just wish you could order a pitcher to share with someone or a few people on the weekends! They'll only allow pitcher orders during the week. Either way, I really enjoy coming here for the deliciously fresh pizza and drinks. Put that alongside friendly and efficient service and a beautiful outdoor patio area, and it's definitely one of my favorite spots in the area. I have to recommend! read more

Jupiter is an absolute fantastic place to grab a pizza, either to go or for dining in in which you can be seated inside as well as outside in their 2-story restaurant/ beer garden. The beer garden is delightful and nice to look at in the evening with the decorated lights and ambience. The staff were very friendly and very helpful, Ones you can have full on conversations with and get an honest opinion. I live in Southern California so when I tried this place, I made sure to go again before heading back. Delicious. Good toppings to sauce to crust ratios. It wasn't super thick, light and airy. They have appetizers, salads, and build your own pizzas as well as specialty ones, which were very good. I've tried at least three different ones and none of them disappointed me. You can go halves on pizzas when it comes to toppings if you want to share or try more than one. They have alcohol, parking can be limited because of the area it's in so just be aware, but there are parking garages. If you haven't tried this spot, a lot of the reviews here are good for a reason. read more

Jupiter is a fun and popping place in the heart of Berkeley! There's many things happening nearby that easily makes this a nice place to hop to in the middle of a fun day or evening out. It's pretty busy, so getting a reservation is recommended! They have nice and good food, and really fun space-themed drinks. The prices are a little steep, but you also pay for the experience and the vibes. The outdoor area is super nice and the employees are kind and attentive. They had a variety of options for beer and a decent selection of pizzas to choose from. We were a party of two and opted for the Half&Half pizza option where we got to choose two different kinds -- we picked half Gaia and half Circe. I personally liked the Circe because it was full of flavor and packed a bit of heat, but thought the Gaia was bland and flavorless. My partner, on the other hand, enjoyed the Gaia because the Circe was a bit too spicy for her. Came back in April 2023. Still just as great as ever. Whenever I'm in the Berkeley area and I can't decide where to go for dinner, I know I can rely on Jupiter to give me not only great food but also great and fast service. My waiter was super cool! I think one thing that stands out from my Jupiter experiences (I think I've come here 4 times by now) is that the service is consistently good. The waiters are quirky and charming, and fairly quick with their service but not overbearing (some places can be...) Here's what I got: Xanthia pizza (again) - delicious as always. Love the thin crust and the toppings. Chicken Wings - it was okay. Wouldn't get it again. There was decent meat on the chicken wings, which I always look out for. But the marinade was kinda plain. Not bad, but not good. The ranch was yummy! But I feel like it was just a meh item. Bread Pudding - mm mm mm! I love bread pudding, and I love bread pudding when it is done right. The bread pudding had that caramelized sweetness, and the whip cream was yummy to dip it into. Good portion for two people. Would get again! We also got a couple tasters of ciders and beer. It is decorated quite nice and I enjoyed the experience. Since it's open seating, it can be a little awkward waiting for a table to clear and for a server to clear the table. But after that, the ordering process is straight forward. We came on a really busy day so our food took quite a while but it was great! We hated a half and half pizza - gaia and juno. Service is really good and folks are attentive and super friendly! We came when it was raining and we found one of the few tables that were covered so keep this in mind if it's raining but you don't want to be indoors--there's options but obviously limited. Not their fault, that makes sense for outdoors and I appreciate that it was still accessible! The pizza was soooo good!!! Price is fair, and the crust is VERY GOOD! We came here for dinner and a drink after a conference one evening. Overall we had a good experience, the outside patio was a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a meal, we sat next to the fire pit and enjoyed some live music. The food was really good, we got the Mediterranean Olive appetizer, the Mediterranean Salad and the Triton Pizza. It was all delicious and there was plenty of food to share. My only complaint with this place is that you sit down and order on the app, which doesn't usually bother me, but because of that I felt like no one ever came over to check on us. We had never been there before and had some questions but no one even came to the table. We ended up ordering and they dropped off the food, left and didn't come back at all. I've been several times through the years and their atmosphere is definitely the main draw. String lights, lush ivy, open brick courtyard-- just a few things that add to the nighttime charm. Best for pizza and beer lovers. I am only 50% of that LOL. Even then, still a nice spot for any occasion from dates, to grad dinners, to family gatherings, etc. Their other eats are decently ok, pizza's obviously the more popular/superior choice (can be made gluten-free or vegan). First time coming here , and it's COVID . So here we go . This was the night before the mandated shut down in alameda county. Me and my friend decided let's enjoy some sit down food before we can't anymore and he recommended Jupiter . I don't know what the inside looks like but the outside seating area was cute ! It had a fire pit lit up and plenty of spaced out seating and heaters above the sitting areas . They're following protocol. They have the QR Code to scan to order your food and anyone can bring it to you . So you don't get a personal waiter or waitress . Literally anyone can bring your food once you place your order ( every worker had a mask ) Ok so now the pizza ! Can we say bomb af all together please !!! Great quality ingredients! You can either pick a combo or create your own pizza . We got half Circe and half Gaia which was everyone's fave ! The crust is very thin but perfect and still crispy! I honestly think I can eat a medium pizza to the face . The size that claimed to be large seemed like a medium I will note that . But besides that everything was yummy . Also they don't have regular soda ! They have local sodas from the Bay Area ! My husband went fishing in the Berkeley Marina with several friends this weekend and wanted to go to dinner after. They choose Jupiter restaurant for dinner. I was a little worried because he is diabetic and even though he loves pizza he isn't supposed to eat it. We were happy there were choices for him. Th they have a nice menu so you can feed anyone tastes. We ordered a great Caesar salad and some wonderful freshly made chicken kabobs. The service and atmosphere was great and the food was delicious. I recommend it also for the pizza. We didn't get a picture of the pizza because it was gone almost immediately.
