We love Juniors Comics! It's our local, neighborhood, south Austin comic and card store. This place has been around for a LONG time. I've hung out a hand full of times here with my husband and have heard stories of kids coming in because their dad has been coming here since he was a kid. There aren't many place left like that. Juniors does different card game tournaments that my husband will go to some times. They have a huge selection of all the card games and of course comic books. Everything is organized alphabetically and it's fun to just peruse and discover new things. If you've never been in here I would definitely recommend stopping in and checking out this place! The owners are usually always working. They are knowledgeable and can help answer any questions or help you look for that certain comic book. read more

This is the only comic book store I care to ever go to. I go here for Magic the gathering. The store is smaller than some in town but the atmosphere here is un-matched. You can always count on funny jokes, good people and everything you would need in a local comic shop. I've gone to other places to play and honestly the other shops in town are filled with small kids and people who wouldn't even get the jokes that get thrown around at Juniors. In my book Juniors comics is as good as it gets for comics and is top notch for card games. read more

I've been in here exactly twice. Both times were in search of certain issues of Stephen King's Dark Tower-The Gunslinger comic series. I'm not into comics, but I have a friend who is and didn't have a good option to buy comics where she lives. Again, given that I'm not into comics, cards, or games, I'll concentrate on customer service instead of merchandise. There was a five-star experience, where they had what we wanted and gave a sleeve for it, and another one-star experience where the owner was there, the item was out, and the only service she could provide was to say "Keep Checking Back With Us". Right after I have a life I will. It's a pretty popular place, just not my kind of place. I'll average the one and the five for a three overall. read more

Exactly the type of comic store soon to become extinct in this decade when comics get downloaded every week to your Apple iPad. I only walked in because the wife was at the fabric store. I mostly buy trades now, but probably would have purchased a few issues of the latest Marvel event . . . if there was any organization to the place! What I could see of the new release table was in shambles and disorder. Hint to the owners: Don't have nerdy little high schoolers blocking your only aisle playing video games! Imagine the worst things about a hobby store: dusty shelves. Bad lighting. Employees who don't know their stuff. Customer base being almost exclusively made up of the owner's friends. Feeling unwelcome when you walk in the store. That is how I feel about this place. I have found some rare pieces here, but more often that not, have felt unwelcome, and worst of all, when the owner is not in the store, the employees have had to call him to find out how much something costs. Generally speaking I have been unimpressed with this place, as Austin has so many better, cleaner, and more knowledgable comic/game shops. read more

We always prefer to support local business, but it's a shame that the locally owned comic book store closest to where we live is the lamest in town. The few times we've been in, the owner and likely only staff member has been less than helpful, if not down right rude. The most recent trip and final nail in the coffin was when we went in the morning a particular comic was being released and asked if it was in stock. Not looking up from the screen, he says that it was, but he needed to see if he had enough to cover his subscribers first.. We sat....waited....he continued to play his game. :( Pretty bad business to not only not order enough to cover a handful of walk in fans beyond your regular subscribers, but to keep a potentially paying customer waiting while you finish your video game - Ridiculous! read more

DC fortnite zero point issue number 1 $4.99 to $5.99 at all comic stores here in austin but he was charging $19.99. Crazy!!!!

Everything one could imagine that could go wrong, short of a fire in a comic shop, is embodied at Juniors. This store is literally a mile from my home, but I drive all the way to Austin Books because I have never seen a store which had so obviously given up. The proprietor had literally no idea what they had in stock, new comics were loosely thrown across a folding table, and older comics on shelves were bent. There's a sort of decaying feel to the place, complete with dusty 90's era action figures on pegs, models and figurines high up on shelves away from the customers which will never be sold, and posters for defunct collectible card games in the windows to keep anyone from looking in, I guess. During one visit, the employees never looked up from their tabletop game long enough to notice whether I was cleaning out the till or acknowledge my existence. There's a stereotype about bad comic shops feeling like someone's ill-kept basement, and Junior's is the embodiment of that brand of bad salesmanship in comics. I've been in there four times to see if I was just completely wrong about my previous visits, and every time I was just met with renewed disappointment. I can also confirm that I have never seen another shopper in the place. I have no clue how they stay in business. Maybe its a front or something? read more

I stopped into Juniors because I was stoked to find out I had a comic book shop so close to my house. But geez, this place was awful. The clerk seemed annoyed at my presence, and her (I presume) very young son was playing video games in the middle of the store and shouting whenever he killed a "bad guy." It was kind if unbecoming for a retail establishment. She seemingly didn't know anything about the products she was selling. I overheard her make a phone call in order to know how much to sell something for when a customer asked. The entire store was in disarray. The glass cases came off more like see-through storage cabinets. The shelves were dusty, books were stacked on top of each other like my bookcase was when I was 12, and they weren't organized in any sort of order conducive to finding anything specific. Want to find specific comics? Good luck. Their white long boxes were basically throw-away stock from Half-Price Books' dumpster, and were half-ass organized. Not only was this store the worst comic book store I've ever been in, it may have been one of the worst retail stores I've ever been in. I do not recommend this place. read more

I live near here so I was hopeful that it would be really cool, but it's a super small, cramped and the comics aren't very well organized. They had books piled up on the long boxes so I couldn't look through then very well. I've been in here twice and there's not really anyone in there. It's pretty dusty and it's not very well organized. I found a couple comics that met my interests but there's one copy of a 4th issue of whatever then you can't find any more issues of what you're looking for. There's not a big selection of new issues at all and they seem sort of a mess. I did find some comics that I liked the look of, but I'll buy those somewhere else. read more

I doubt that those people that gave it 5 star review have actually ever been in this store. We went there is morning for the annual free comic book day and were shocked to see a 3 year old playing Hallo (or something like it). The kid was screaming each time he killed something. I thought about calling child services because I got the impression this kid does it 7 days a week all year. I brought my 9 year old with me and even he was horrified to see this happening. We picked up two comics and left the store as fast as possible. Seriously people, if you want to see your child succeed in life at least have them play some educational games. I will never bring my son there again. read more

This seems like an after-school hangout spot for middle and high school kids. The kid working there looked like he was in high school himself and was on the phone with a personal call the whole time I was there. It's true this place is dirty and unorganized. The type of place you don't want to spend one unnecessary minute in. Their new arrival shelves are badly designed with books facing out, but flopping over. They could take a lesson from Tribe on how to store these. On top of all this, they didn't even have the book I was looking for. Won't waste time here again. read more

I called to check a price on a box of cards . Old white lady that works there quoted me 80 dollars peer box she had 2 remaining . Knowing I was on my way soon as I arrived she ask me if I wanted the one or two boxes .I said 2 then she made up some BS that now there 95 dollars each . I didn't know this place was in need of my money they jacked up prices on the spot. will not recommend going here .i certainly will not be gong back read more

I've been coming to Junior's for years and I anticipate that if I have children, they will come here too! The owners and staff are amazingly knowledgable and helpful and Henry is hilarious to talk to. I have been going to Juniors for over 10 years and while these days they mainly concentrate on cards and graphic novels, but they do offer a comic pull service. So if are a regular comic collector Juniors will be happy to help you get your monthly fix. The only real problem with Juniors is that they have been squeezed into to small a space. If only their store were a little bigger it wouldn't be so crowed. read more

This is the best place in town to play or buy Magic. It has so much character, the employees and customers are always fun and friendly and it's always a blast. Henry, the owner, is just awesome. The prices are usually some of the best in town. They also carry the other CCG/TCG/LCGs like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! but I don't play those. I don't read comics but they seem to have a good selection of comics and collectible action figures too. read more

I have been in, and will have been in this shop one time in my life. This is the WORST shop I have been to in my entire life, and that includes over a decade and a half of playing Magic the Gathering across about 7 different states. The first thing to notice when you walk in is the horrific stench of a NEVER cleaned store that consistently has customers with horrific body odor. I have only ever been in one other store where this type of stench was noticeable and the owner asked the culprit to leave. The second thing you will notice is how disorganized dark, and dank this shop is. It has NOTHING to do with the size, everything to do with poor lighting and a poor set-up in general. Odd... The first two things you notice don't involve an employee.. That is because after being a new person in the shop you WILL NOT be greeted by the ONE employee/owner that is there. Not only was I not greeted, customers that came in after me were not greeted at all either. The only exceptions to this were regulars that the owner knows. Even still the employee will use profanity and vulgar comments with CHILDREN in this store. After I retrieved a card I wanted to purchase and had paid to enter a local tournament(which I had to call and get my DCI number since apparently he couldn't look it up like EVERY OTHER STORE EVER) I asked how much the card was and was replied with the amount. I pulled the money from my pocket and was told to leave the card there. I asked to purchase it and was QUESTIONED AS TO WHY I WANTED TO BUY IT!!!! Afterwards I was NOT sold the product even though I had cash in hand. I played one tournament here and am so VERY glad that a new store "Mage's Sanctum" is opening in the same plaza. Hopefully this will help to close this store and make the gaming community better. I would not go to Juniors... Which is oddly spelled Juniors and not "Junior's" even if I were offered a CASE of free MTG cards. I would say I was appalled by the customer service, but that implies the employee was there to be at your service at all. Worst. Store. Ever. read more

Apparently there's a reason I had never heard of this place. It's pretty awful. Besides having only a tiny selection of comics, the small shotgun style shop is a complete and total disaster. New comics carelessly scattered and piled on top of old comics. Endless piles of Magic cards everywhere with absolutely no organization whatsoever. It was like walking into a teenagers room minus the underwear on the floor. Just walking in the door was awkward. That being said, I was greeted after a moment by the employee and he asked if I read comics or played Magic. He seemed to lose what little interest he had shown me as soon as I informed him that I used to play the game, but that I hadn't for many years. By the way, I'm wearing a bright orange Aquaman T-shirt but I guess observation isn't a virtue for this guy. Anyway, I confirmed the obvious and told the guy that yes, I read comics, and was actually there hoping to find some old back issues of Wonder Woman. He then proceeded to tell me, rather condescendingly, "Yeah, she's a popular character.. but mostly only women buy that title. Ya know?" Kind of rude considering.. I'm a guy. Just what was that supposed to mean? A bit insulted at this point I promptly told him, "Well, I've been a fan and collecting Wonder Woman since i was nine years old." No comment. Then he turned on a video game and basically ignored me the rest of the time I was there wandering through the mess with a friend. Needless to say I didn't spend any money there and I'll never be back. Junior's seems little more than a hole in the wall place for high school kids to play Magic. Skip it. If you're looking for a great comic and game shop in South Austin check out Tribe Comics & Games. They don't deal in back issues, but it's super clean with a great selection and the staff are always awesome. read more
