I was on the book trail and had been to Dragon's Lair Books and More, which accidentally put his initials by Austin Books and Comics, so I was treated like I was crazy and had already been to the head store. That's why they call the store at the front. You have to be aware that they have four separate stores instead of one with four different departments. If you aren't and ask questions as I did, you will be treated as though you are demented. The tone I encountered was condescending at best. The manager, a woman, had no problem with their behaviour. She is okay with discriminating per age against customers. These employees are proud to make it clear that first-time customers and anyone over 40 are not welcome here. All customers should be treated with courtesy, regardless of age or familiarity with the store. If you are not familiar with the store or are over 40 they don't want you to shop here. I'd like to know how old the owner of this store, which is for some reason, made up of four little stores in the same location, even is. read more

Day 2...quest for Black Panther (Marvel Comic books) for my nephew for his birthday. Thus, I landed at Austin Books & Comics. My first impression...wow...this comic bookstore is super well organized. Large font hanging placards make it very easy to peruse rows of comics, graphic novels, and collectibles. The prices of the comic books were reasonable. One of the highlights of my visit was finally finding Black Panther Marvel comics after being on the hunt for them. Austin Books & Comics had a solid selection, making it clear they care about stocking both popular titles and meaningful characters. Seeing Black Panther prominently represented felt especially rewarding, and it turned my visit into a successful and memorable one. In addition, one of the sales representatives pointed me to the Black Panther section of comic books. Today, I learned that most comic books come out about monthly and they come in a series. For Black Panther, they had 4 comic books in the series. Now, I need to consult with my brother to determine which ones I should purchase for my nephew. From the minute you walk through the front doors you know you've entered an inclusive and loving environment. You don't even have to be a major comic nerd like my boyfriend to feel the warmth and sincerity from the folks who work here. It's clear that for them it's not work but a labor of love. Every single staff member is super knowledgeable about everything from mainstream to the most obscure. The store is immaculate. In fact like that old saying, "you could eat off the floors" immaculate. It's a big and spacious store with lots of room to move around and not be on top of other customers while browsing and perusing. They carry recent issues for all of the popular comics as well as indie comics, lgbtq comics, graphic novels, etc. The back issues section is pretty extensive too. You're bound to find what you're looking for and if not, they can order almost anything. Really nice selection of collectibles, figures, and POPS. This is a great place to get lost for a few hours...or to buy your dog Krypto gear since he is his double after all. read more

I like this shop there's a huge selection of books and comics. Unfortunately I couldn't find what I wanted but you know that's just the game we play looking for specific comics. Handful of people working in here they were nice and helpful . Even pointed me in the direction where I might find something I was interested in. There's a lot of cool stuff in the shop. This store is located in a very small strip center, but don't let that fool you as it is very spacious inside. I would estimate it to be about 3000 ft.² or more. The only drawback to this place is the very limited parking spaces out front. There are tens of thousands of comic books on display. Everything is very well displayed and merchandised. They also have T-shirts, action figures, and books. If you have some comics to sell, they may purchase them, but call first to see if a buyer is available before you arrive. I was hoping to get some more info from the staff on a comic book series but when I asked the guy who was stocking the shelves he blew me off pretty rudely. It's pretty easy to find a comic book store pretty much anywhere now a days, however it's not super easy to find one as big, stocked, and awesome as Austin Books & Games. From the second I walked into this store I was completely overwhelmed with the amount of awesome that was in front of me. This place has an insane amount of comics from all time periods to chose from, from Archie, Superman, and Ghost Rider to The Flash, The Walking Dead, and the Fantastic Four. What really impressed me was the insane toy collection that was towards the back side of the store. They have a ton of glass cabinets full of models (mostly marvel and DC stuff), and next to that there are a ton of different racks with in package toys such as Batman, X-Men, and and the big box Marvel collectibles. This store is insane, plain and simple. The selection here is unmatched in the area and I can't help but give this place five stars for being such an amazing shop. read more

Wow! This store has a huge layout and several aisles of comics, manga, and kids' books. I didn't have a long time to go through everything but it was definitely quite impressive and the employees were cool to deal with as well. If I had any issues I'd say that the little parking lot in front is not the best but there's some more parking around the corner by the gaming store. read more

My two boys (age 8 and 6) have gotten into characters and comic books. We live in Elgin, and there is zero selection around. So after looking at a handful of stores in Austin, we picked this one. And we couldn't have picked a superior store. They had an almost overwhelming selection of books and comic books, and while I am not super into them, both my boys found many of interest. The staff was very helpful friendly, they helped us find some Godzilla books for one of my sons. And speaking of Godzilla, right next door is a toy/model shop that is FULL of anime, pokemon, Godzilla, ect. Awesome little run of stores. We will definitely be back! read more

My wife and I visit Austin Books & Comics as often as we can because of her undying love for graphic novels. Of course you can always buy books and comics for cheaper through online retailers but physically being at a bookstore is a whole different feeling, plus we like to support local - so places like this stick around for a while!! The store itself isn't huge but they make sure to fit in as many things as they can for customers to look through. Parking is easy, there is a smaller lot in front of the store but also a larger one around the back which is our usual go-to. Austin Books & Comics is constantly rotating in new merchandise and making sure they are up to date on all new issues and graphic novels. The staff is always friendly, always asking to help. Worth a visit for comic book lovers like my wife and even for non-comic book lovers like me :) read more

I have a soft spot for all the comic book shops in the area but Austin Books is my go-to and the purest in terms of selection. While many shops are split with gaming and may lean even more heavily that way, Austin Books is first and foremost a great comic book shop. On top of that their staff are welcoming, friendly, and make you feel part of the family. They are great with pull lists and recommendations. I can name many people here who I really appreciate and are extremely helpful. Having said that I have also had some of the worst interactions in all of my retail shopping life here. We loved this store, they have a huge selection of comics, books and collectibles. We spent probably a good hour roaming around and looking at everything they had to offer. We had a lot of fun taking photos with the giant Hulk and checking out their huge character collectible displays. The dude that buys the stuff, is a rude douchebag and needs to learn that when someone is there with a collectable, it is still that person's property whether they want to sell it or not. Not only was he condescending, talking to me like I was a 4 year old with no concept of the value of what I brought in, but he had the audacity to demand me to stop "messing with it" when I was repackage the statue of I planned on selling it. This was before any sort of offer or price was even discussed. It doesn't matter if I want to sell it, it's still mine until the sell is made. Until that moment, I'll do whatever the f*ck I feel like doing with MY property. It was then that I decided I wasn't selling it to him no matter what he offered. When I told him I no longer wanted to sell the statue, he stopped acknowledging me, and immediately walked away to sit at his desk. He completely ignored the other things I brought in with me, like he was throwing a tantrum because I didn't want to sell him that 1 thing. Dude is a f*cking as*hole who will not respect you. If you want to sell your comics or collectables, go somewhere else with someone who won't be a total dbag or throw a tantrum when you decide not to sell something. read more

Don't let outside appearances fool you. As some folks have already mentioned, this place is pretty big inside. They have a very large selection of comics, action figures, and tees. The POP! figurine choices are somewhat massive and when I was looking for Twisty from AHS, one of the employees really went out of his way to see if they had them. Unfortunately, they didn't but he gave me a head's up as to when I could expect them in which was very nice of him. Don't forget to take a picture with the Hulk in the back of the store! read more

HUGE. like donald trump huge. it's hyooge. you can easily spend countless hours in there :: great selection of back copies of older comics. i found some old issues of x-men, v: the final battle, indiana jones, and mr t comics. i was quite the happy camper! :: the people working there are really nice and helpful. :: LOVE their selection of indie graphic novels by people like adrian tomine, joe matt, julie doucet. Ok I admit I did end up picking out 3 very cool comic books. So fine - maybe I am nerd. This was my first visit to Austin Books and Comics and WHOA it was amazing! As soon as I walked in I was almost overwhelmed at the glory. I could probably spend hours and hours just looking through everything. There were shelves, drawers and walls lined with comic books. I really liked how in certain areas the employees had stuff that they recommended. As I looked around there was one employee that had recommendations that were right down my alley. Super helpful! I ended up getting 3 volume 1 comics. If they are good I will be back soon for the next volumes! Steve H. was able to find some Star Wars comics he had been wanting. He is collector or all things Star Wars. He is also the real nerd here. One tip here is that if you see a comic you are interested in and want to start at volume 1 you may need to walk to the back of the store and look for it alphabetically. Great prices on key books and nice selection (huge) on modern new releases. I found The Witching Hour 6 in the $3 box and told the counter/worker before checkout. He goes to look up the price (eBay) LOL and explains "it be around $60" Not in that Grade no... Could have been more considerate with my honesty. Manager kept telling me to pull my mask up when me and my friend were 30 feet apart from her. She seems like a single women. I would be upset as well. Usual Mask Nazi. When in ATX I go here. Just a PSA for my stalker. To the new dad that works there, you helped me out recently with INJECTION special GIANT-sized artist's proof edition. You were awesome and helped me find the cleanest/neatest/most pretty copy. I later traveled hours to get home and prompted chased a cicada around my house for 1 hour. My copy now has character. I don't know why I haven't written a 5 star review before for this excellent shop. It really is one of the best comic book stores I've ever been in and I have been delighted to see it's growth over the years! Their Free Comic Book Day is like a national holiday for us and I love this annual show of generosity and excited nerddom! They also have a life-size Incredible Hulk so that's always great. They have an excellent all ages section and a wide variety from superheroes to the most alt-comics. Super swell! read more
