Oatmeal cookies and lattes
Ashley M.

We have a zoo membership and I'm a big coffee fan, so on my last visit, I decided to try Jungle Java. I was greeted by a friendly staff member who was very helpful with our order. I had a regular latte that was good, but not great; it was a bit bitter on the front end, though it improved slightly as it cooled down. I also tried an oatmeal cookie; it had a nice flavor but was unfortunately a bit dry. We were able to find a table and chairs nearby even on a busy weekday, which was a plus. I'm still undecided if I'd go back for a second round.

Located in the Zoo park have to say pricing isn't too bad . Coffees are not too bad here . I also had oatmeal cookies and those were yummy ! I would recommend buying a coffee here is you need your caffeine fix to keep walking !

It was good for zoo coffee! I'm happy they had non-dairy milk options and a few syrup flavors too. The baristas were very nice and the drinks were made pretty fast.

It's decent coffee and it's not from some premix like some of the other coffee carts at the park. - The San Diego Zoo has NO stevia available, anywhere. Bring your own.. - I prefer Nestle Coffee ( across the way, close to the exit).. - Cold brew now available. - Your biggest enemy here might the long slow line.

I loveeeee the zoo we are member but the Java hut is SO inconsistent. I ordered the same drink one early afternoon one later in afternoon 3 hours apart, different workers. First order spot on thank you. Second order, horrible wrong drink, and looked at me like I was nuts for asking for my correct drink. This coffee stand is always inconsistent unfortunately. When the workers are good the coffee is good

Needed a caffeine kick to get our trip to the zoo started. Ordered a double espresso and got 10% off with our zoo membership so it came out to a little under $4. That's average pricing for a double espresso. It tasted ok. They had sugar, Splenda, and sweet n low. I wish there was a brown sugar or sugar in the raw instead. Service was quick and friendly.

Jungle Java is located close to the Safari Kitchen quick service dining. Both are conveniently locate across from the exit and at the end of the Monkey Trail. My dad and I wanted some coffee and a quick snack before beginning our long zoo day. Compared to Disneyland where they take advantage of not allowing guests to bring their own food and overcharging up the ass, the prices here don't seem too exorbitant and are comparable to Starbucks. My mocha was about $4 and a single was like the size of a grande mocha. My mocha was a bit watery with lots of big ice cubes but c'mon, this is a zoo concession stand! Not expecting some artisanal high quality beans here. Their cookie was surprisingly chewy and had some decent sized chips for $3.69. It's almost like Starbucks pricing except the pastries they sell for that amount are just a bit bigger. Even with the watery mocha my drink and the cookie were enough to get me through the day.

I saw an IG reel about Morning Dew and made time on a weekend to go, as it's a bit out of the way…read morefor me. The road to Money Trees was somewhat chaotic for me, but I am glad I got to try this unique drink. Ultimately, I would rate this a 3.5ish for me, but I do tend to round up for small businesses. My tip for anyone reading this review is that the hours are not exact on any site I checked. Since Morning Dew is run by one person, I definitely understand that it's more difficult to start precisely on time. I would advise either clearer communication of daily hours on their IG, or to simply come by later to give them some cushion for set-up. I ended up waiting an hour from the listed opening time for the owner to finish setting up. Thankfully, there were plenty of things to do in the surrounding area, and I took a nice stroll, popping in and out of shops in the area. Morning Dew is located in Jaguar Paw, which is a bar at night. The space is super cute and the menu has many unique drinks that tempted me, but I ended up going with Money Trees, which has pandan and banana. I have never had a banana-flavored drink before but I saw a lot of hype around these types of drinks, so I wanted to give them a try myself. It was pretty pricy but as a sweet-treat advocate, I wanted to try something new. Upon first sip, I was hit with strong pandan and banana flavors. There was a slightly astringent aftertaste from the banana, so I do feel like the flavor is from real fruit and not artificial syrup. Unfortunately, it was not my favorite drink as I think I prefer more matcha-forward options. It was also a bit thinner than I prefer, so it felt like a banana juice. While I am intrigued by some of the other drinks on offer, I do not think Morning Dew will become part of my regular rotation. Between the prices, location, and hours, this is definitely a special occasion, friends-in-town type of spot for me.

The menu featured various matcha tea drinks which seems to be all the rage right now. The same seating arrangement of the bar countertop and tables across from it was available if you wanted to hang out and chill. A sign behind the bar described the ceremonial grade matcha that was used with the region of origin and the flavors imparted to the powder. Five different matcha drinks were offered along with hot and cold coffees and lattes. The top three matcha choices were priced at $8 each. I chose the Ordinary Pleasure which was the first one. Pandan sticky rice milk and mango puree were added to the matcha and topped with a salted coconut foam. I wasn't a fan of the foam, but the matcha flavor was intense and contrasted by the fruity puree on the bottom of the cup. The baristas were very focused with measuring the exact amounts for each ingredient in the drinks they were preparing. The matcha quality seemed to be very good based on what I tasted so maybe it's why the price was $1 higher than what I have tried elsewhere.

Food: 5/5 Drinks: 4/5…read moreService: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 I love the Dark Horse brand across the board, but the Golden Hill location has consistently been my favorite. The baristas are kind and efficient, and they remember my dogs which of course wins me over instantly. The location itself is super convenient: easily walkable, a fair amount of street parking, and easy access right off the highway. I also really appreciate that they have lots of outdoor seating and offer pup cups, so I feel comfortable stopping by with my dogs. I also love that they have a rewards program via Cash App/phone number/the credit card you use. It's especially convenient that this is all tracked digitally and automatically when you swipe your credit card. For drinks, I've ordered: The Champ (iced): 4/5 A very popular choice. I do enjoy this coffee and the honey flavor is lovely, but the cinnamon can be a bit strong for me. They use powdered cinnamon over the top, which from a texture standpoint isn't my favorite. I do find the cinnamon is less overpowering when this drink is ordered hot instead of iced. Salted Maple Latte (iced): 5/5 This is my go-to. Delicious, strong coffee without being bitter and very well balanced overall. The maple flavor doesn't jump out in an obvious way, but adds a subtle sweetness that isn't overly sweet or sharp. Interestingly, I think the 16oz is better balanced than the 12oz in terms of coffee/milk/maple ratios. Pumpkin Spiced Latte (hot): 3/5 I'm not the biggest pumpkin spice latte fan, so I wasn't expecting to love this. It does have a clear pumpkin spice flavor, but the texture coats the mouth a bit more than I prefer (likely from the pumpkin), which is part of why this isn't my favorite. For food, I've ordered: Vegan Donuts: 5/5 I thought these used to be made by a sister company of Dark Horse, but I believe they're now sourced from Nomad Donuts. They usually have 1-2 rotating flavors each day, and since the main difference is the glaze on top, you really can't go wrong with any flavor you get. The texture is closer to a cake donut. Super tasty and not too sweet. Almond Cake: 5/5 Delicious and decadent. Very light, sweet, and crumbly. This isn't something I'd get regularly since it's just a bit too sweet for me without feeling like dessert, but it's undeniably tasty. To summarize, this is a consistently solid location with great service, excellent drinks, and small bites that pair perfectly with your favorite cup of joe. This is my go-to neighborhood coffee stop.

Sadly the ice cream shop was closed when I came back around 2pm. I found that to be odd, or perhaps it was open~ it was dark and doors were closed. But anyways, thankfully, Dark Horse Coffee Roasters was still open till I believe 3:30pm! (I went on a Sunday). They have indoor seating and a big space outdoor for seating. We found parking on the street, no paying needed. They also have a bathroom, which is nice, but most people don't ask for the key (since it's essentially open, only locked when in use). The door is frosted and you can see the outline of someone as they stand near it. I think it could be a little more frosty! There were a lot of workers the day I went and they were nice. The prices were good for specialty lattes and the guy informed us that both sizes use the same amount of shots (2), the only difference is quantity of milk! I got a classic, $6, 12 oz Iced Salted Maple (S'Maple) Latte. It was good, but I wouldn't mind if the salted maple was more flavorful. It's quite subtle! The outdoor space is really great for meet ups with large groups of family/friends/work. I think this location is really lovely and would recommend people to come check it out!
