Great location just outside of the Amtrak station, whether it be for a quick snack, drink, or darts. If passing by on the lakeshore limited you will have an hour break and I highly recommend walking across the parking lot and saying hi to June. Fun and relaxed atompshere makes a great break in the middle of your journey. Don't forget some dog treats for the very sweet JJ. Skittish but loves a scratch when in the mood. read more

Fun bar that was converted from a Firehouse. Friendly bartenders and a good selection of beers on tap and in the bottle. Great place to wait for a train! Did not try the food, but the couple next to me seemed to like their burgers. Will certainly stop here next time I'm in Albany. read more

I feel ashamed. They've been open for five years - and maybe it's my fault for not noticing earlier, or that the construction project at the station has revealed this small gem of a dive bar. Here's my normal process when I'm waiting for a delayed train, or I show up at the station way too early. Go to the cafe, buy a beer while other people are all buying soup or coffees, sit at the coffee bar and drink that beer while reading a book. Feeling slightly awkward to be in a coffee shop/cafe environment with my beer. Now that I know about June's, everything is about to change. They have local beers. It's a pretty open space that opens up to the outside which is perfect on good weather days. They have a small dive bar menu with fries and other quick snacks. Ordered some fries with our beers - they're basic but good. Came out hot and fresh. What a perfect little snack before trekking to another location. And something to help pair with my beer. This will now be my go-to waiting place before a train ride whenever I have time. read more

Recommended by folks at Amtrak station (behind restaurant) when my train was delayed...had June's Big Angus burger...very good - cooked the way I wanted it, though I wished they would have toasted the roll. I'm guessing they just opened due to the limited menu - more of a bar than a restaurant. No fried foods on menu, not sure if by design or not...side choices were potato salad, mac & cheese or chips...chose chips which came as crumbs in the plate! That's my only complaint. read more

Don't waste your time. My Dad and I tried to eat here unsuccessfully. He is 82 and has trouble chewing so we hoped they had chili or sour but both are seasonal so he ordered tuna. I ordered roast beef but they said they only had tuna, turkey, and corned beef so I asked for turkey and a Coke to drink because they didn't have Dr Pepper. They brought me a funky tasting Coke and then told Dad they ran out of tuna. Hardly room to park either, but then again I can't imagine why they need much with their ineptitude. read more

Layover on the Adirondack: Its cold as you step off the train at the Albany-Rensler Amtrak Station, athough not as cold as it was when you boarded in Montreal this morning, eight hours ago. You have 30 minutes, you're hungry, and you could use a beer that doesn't cost eight dollars per bottle. So, you go up to the station, and look around, a bar catches your eye, the word "Bud" screams out in lurid neon glow. What the hell, you tell yourself, its the only bar in eyesight. Its an interesting place, carved out of the remains of an old firehouse, a wall made of the glass door which used to enclose the garage. Its eclectically decorated, false flowers on the back-bar, a giant metal key on a wall, low lighting, a photo-wall dedicated to 9/11 and the New York Fire Department. Music blasts. Three people sit at the bar, tended by a lone woman. You explain your situation, ordering a cup of chili and a Ithaca Brewing "Flower Power IPA" (a much better option than the Rebel IPA listed on the board). The beer is cold, the pour good, and its satisfying to drink in a new city, one which you'll probably never go back to again. The chili (4$) is just chili, a little thin for your taste, although there's plenty of meat to go around, and a healthy application of some Franks Red Hot and a liberal dosing of oyster crackers keep the couple of beans floating in the tomato-based broth company. Everyone is friendly, they talk to you about your work, about the train ride. They bitch about the weather, talk about their children, prophecy sybalistically about the Yankees, the Mets, the elections. You put on your hat and leave, everyone says goodbye, that they'll see you soon. You make the train, and glide through the mouldering ruins of post-industrial America as the sun sets, a bead of honey descending under the horizon, bathing the clouds in gold, drenching the snow in blood. read more

Can we talk about this place for a second? Former firehouse ? - awesome. Right next to a sorry train station? - amazing !!! I was passing through on a trip from the west coast and was told that we had an hour to kill in Albany! Luckily I stretched my legs enough to find this gem. I had an hour layover and that was just enough time to meet some locals, have a few locals pints and take a delicious sandwich for the road. If you find yourself waiting for a train in Albany then do yourself a favor and skip the corporate atmosphere of the train station and get a nice helping of local business. June herself was there and she was amazingly helpful and very friendly. The sandwich was great and a much better option then that crap Amtrak passes off as food. The bar had a cozy feeling as the jukebox was cranking Pearl Jam and the locals seemed to be on a first name basis with each other. One regular even thanked me for my business as I was leaving. I will stop by for a pint whenever life finds me in this part of the world. read more

Wonderful people working here. Friendly, prompt service and tasty cold beer. What's not to love? My wife and I each had the burger, which was quite possibly the best burger I've ever had. So juicy and tender and it almost fell apart in my mouth before I bit into it. Great fries and a pretty decent beer selection helped round out the meal to make it perfect. Will definitely be making a stop here every time we take the train in. read more

Finally, somewhere other than the train station cafe to cool your heels during a layover (or while waiting for your ride). The beer selection is quite reasonable. The ATM is surprisingly non-price-gougey, and the food I had (split-pea soup) was surprisingly good. It's a bit drafty and a fry-oil smell drifts in from the kitchen. I wasn't as blown away as some reviewers here, but I certainly wouldn't hesitate to go back. read more

We needed a quick and close place to stop between our train ride and 3+ hour commute home. I'll preface this by saying that I am a picky eater - I like veggies and am not a big meat eater. However, I love breakfast. Everything else on the menu was pretty much a sandwich of some sort (it was st. Patrick's day and we were offered CB & cabbage). Hubby and I both got breakfast sandwiches= eggs, cheese and a meat on dry bread. They were pretty good-nothing special, no home fries or anything with them. I pulled out most of my fatty bacon. Total was $8. We had water because there was no iced tea or lemonade- they had a bar as well as soda and juice. Decor was a bit odd- I expected more charm for an old firehouse. Only one female staff there who was nice and attentive. Most likely will try someplace else with a more varied menu next time. read more

The entrance to the parking lot of the post office was closed and I wasn't sure if the other one was open, so I pulled into the parking lot with one car in it to literally walk to the mail box and drop a letter in it. I didn't even have to go inside. I was screamed at from a woman inside the building that I cannot park my car there because it's a business. I've driven by there many times and always wanted to try it. Now I won't bother. read more

Got a couple rounds for my g/f and I and they had no problem with us getting some Greek food fro Anton's delivered to satisfy our picky vegan and organic dietary desires. I'd typically start with a bunch of stuff about how much better this place is than the train station to wait at, how unusual it is to find a place that is 1/2 way decent right across from a station, and how nice it to find this place, but that would totally miss the mark. I would come hang here if it was nowhere near the train station, this would be my neighborhood bar if I lived anywhere in a 20 mile radius. Great combo package of spacious, unique, and well built out old firehouse, spot on kitchen, people that know how to use it, and Frankie as the consumate barman - Chill and charming, very hospitable, good stories, solid dude. We intentionally missed our train to catch the one after so we could enjoy some more conversation, and the sheer pleasure of tossing back one more round or three inside the firehouse with the side of the building open feeling the night air and good company. Looking forward to meeting June herself on the next trip or sometime. If my dad were alive today, I would totally take him here for some beers. He would love it too. And I lied, we didn't intentionally miss our train, I just thought that sounded pithy for a review. We did though intentionally stay for an extra hour and half after getting off the train before heading upstate to "start" our vacation. June's was a great Trailhead to launch off from and a proper way to start a weekend for sure. read more
