Good option if you're looking for a themed cake for a celebration. I like how our cake wasn't made with fondant. A lot of bakeries use it to get the design that customers want but I personally find it very hard to stomach because it's very sweet and artificial tasting. Rather, our cake was decorated with a yellow cream that tasted much better. Other than the design, the cake tasted pretty plain, having a taste similar to other Chinese bakery assorted fruit cakes. They did include this gelatinous/pudding-like substance in the cake though, which was a pleasant surprise. I got a chance to look at the designs of some of the other cakes that were made here and they are definitely top notch. The location of the store is a little out of the way but if I'm ever in need of a well-decorated cake for a special occasion, I'll definitely keep this store open as an option. read more

Was looking for a birthday cake for myself on my home from my birthday dinner with family. So Junction Cake Box was nearby and decided to try it. This bakery is run by Asian people, though I don't know if they're Chinese or not because they spoke a dialect I was not familiar with. ANYWAY, I bought this very interesting cake with fruit and pudding on it. I was like, "pudding?" It was a reasonable price ($18) for a 8" cake/dome. So obviously, because it's a dome shape cake, there isn't any room to write "Happy Birthday", so they gave "happy birthday" stand thing with candles and cake spatula. The cake itself was good. Soft and light (like any other Chinese bakery). So while eating it, I was wondering where the pudding is. It was in between the layers of cake, cream and fruit. I wouldn't say it's pudding, I guess it was a more solid form of pudding. It's very subtle. I really like the cake! Definitely would like to try their other desserts/pastries. I didn't come in here for cake, and for some reason I had it in my head that this isn't an Asian bakery, oh but it is. Compared to other bakeries I've been to out in California and Chinatown in NY, the pastries here are very reasonably priced! At that point I was like oh ok, I'm not expecting much from how these buns taste, but I picked up my favorite (the pineapple bun) and the bread was super nice and fluffy! The impressive thing about this place was that there were two varieties of the pineapple bun: the flakey crust of the HK version as well as the Taiwanese(?) one, better known as the melon pan. I'd ordered two custom cakes (monkey and ping-pong) for my dad and nephew's birthday. I had been in contact with the manager via email and we had been emailing back and forth to get the details down. On the day of the pick-up, they took the cake out and opened it. To my surprised, instead of a monkey and ping-pong cake, we got a sheep and dragon cake instead. I called the manager and told them that they had messed up and asked for an explanation, to which all they could say is "Sorry, we'll pay better attention next time." What boggles my mind is that I was very clear in the emails, always saying "monkey" and "ping pong" multiple times. There was even a time when he responded back asking why I kept saying monkey and that he thought I had wanted a sheep cake and I responded saying no - I want a monkey cake instead. I was in a bind. My dad and nephew's party was in 30 minutes and the cake wasn't right. The dragon cake I could get away with but for my nephew, the sheep made no sense since it was a monkey-themed party. I asked if they could at the very least remove the horns from the sheep and try to make it look like a monkey and they said "No, it wouldn't make the cake look beautiful" After a lot of back and forth and them admitting that they messed up, I asked them what they could do. I wasn't going to pay full price for custom cakes that weren't correct since it's not what I ordered. But I needed cakes for the party. They said they would give us a discount. What they said next just completely boggled my mind. Their discount was that they would "fix the sheep cake to be a monkey cake, leave the dragon cake as is and that we would pay FULL PRICE for them to do this" I'm not sure what kind of discount that was but I told her that was literally a slap in the face and I was very offended by it. I didn't have time to keep arguing with them so I told them I wasn't going to take the cakes since they weren't what I ordered and they weren't offering any feasible resolutions. Don't get me wrong. I wasn't expecting the cakes to be free or even that steep of a discount. But since they messed up on the order, they never did anything to resolve the issue or provided a discount to take the cake - which they messed up on and wasn't what I ordered - to help the situation. I'm happy to pay full price for the cakes, but for what I ordered. For anyone ordering here, I would be careful and make sure they completely understand the details that you're ordering, to make sure there aren't any mix up. And even if you did that, I wouldn't be confident that it would be right. read more

In any case, I was not sure how the cake would turn out but boy was I and my guests truly impressed when I served the birthday cake. The ordering was done via text using pictures and words. A nice Asian bakery with an Italian/American twist on junction blvd?? You can count me in! So far I've had their pineapple buns, red bean sesame balls, red bean bun and their tiramisu cake on more than one occasion and all were delicious. I've purchased the tiramisu for different celebrations and they were more than happy to add the little touches I needed to the cake. If it were not for my mother once bringing this cake to a holiday party I probably would have not tried a typical Italian dessert at an Asian bakery. I know I know, shame on me!! But I have learned my lesson! All the cakes look beautifully made, and if the other pastries are any indication of how great this bakery is; then I am almost positive they must all be pretty darn good. Oh and they also have adorable cupcakes and bubble tea that I do plan on giving a try in the near future.
