Just a roadside heat lamp food joint. Reading the signs for the business I thought there was a full menu kitchen.

Very "okay," in other words, not bad, but not particularly good. Why? Everything I ordered was…read moreeither very dry or lacked flavor/taste. Ribs were meaty, but truly flavorless. The brisket was fatty and no char. The pulled pork was dry and lacked flavor. Even the Mac and cheese lacked a legit cheesy taste. The coke slaw was tasty and very good. Bread (a roll) was tasteless too. Nice size portions. Reasonable price.

I grew up on the original Dickey's Barbecue in Dallas, and always glad to find new ones. But this…read moreone, at the Road Ranger, is the absolute worst. No matter what time of day, you get the worst of the brisket-- all the fat, all the gristle, with the lean left on the board-- but only if you get that far. These people are ANGRY behind the counter. Today, as just the latest example, but it has always been a chore dealing with their attitude: It is just about Noon, so am expecting a line to order, but there is no line. I see the only visible employee is busy trimming meat, and wait at the "Order Here" sign. I am there five minutes, another person has come up to wait behind me. The employee never acknowledges either of us. Not a word is spoken. No eye contact made. The employee ceaselessly trimming meat--apparently on a phone-in order, and moves to the register, looks around, glares with clear disgust at the man behind me in line, and I turn to try to understand. The man behind me has given up waiting just as I turn to look, as he walks away. I turn back to watch the employee for signs of human interaction-- anything at all. Just then, a female employee walks out from the back, and says something to the angry guy up front, and he quietly responds to her. She walks away without acknowledging me, either. I am now amused by the skit-like ineptitude of this place and its employees. I briefly imagine the manager looking like a cartoon villain, and carrying a riding crop, keeping the employees locked up in a cage at night. But this imagined scene gets interrupted by the eye contact-- at long last-- of the angry man behind the calendar. He just glares at me, but holds the eye contact. Bemused grin on my face, I ask, "Am I missing something?" He answers, "I don't know, are you?" I answer, "Yes, I think I am, and whatever it is, I want no part of it." No one wants any part of this Dickey's -- not the customers, and not even the employees.

I ordered a queso and an adult drink she got a water. I allowed my 20yr daughter to have a drink of my adult drink. A waitress came running over saying in broken English ID ID!! I said I am her mother I am 50 and I am allowing her to have some of my drink. Another male waiter said Oh ok I understand and tried to explain to her as she did not appear to speak much english but she shoved him away like WHAT THE HECK. Next thing you know 4 ladies surrounded our booth saying they needed her ID. I said she is 20 and I am her mother the law allows me to let MY child have a drink of my drink. She states although the law allows, they do not allow that there and they needed to "confiscate" the drink. I understand that maybe their policy but the way it was handled was SO UNPROFESSIONAL. We just got up and left our food and everything.
