When we first moved to Tennessee, our realtor told us that if you're looking for a classic lunch spot in Columbia, you've got to try "Jumbo House". Was that a good recommendation? Let's first start by acknowledging what Jumbo House is NOT: It's fair to say, Jumbo House is not for everybody. This is not your $15 dollar gourmet burger eatery that you can order from an app. It is not the cleanest or shiniest establishment. But I would argue that it intentionally offers something different to its patrons. So let's talk about what Jumbo House is though: Jumbo House is a local mom and pop dive in the heart of Columbia that offers your typical fast food fare such as burgers, fries, nuggets, corndogs and more. It's priced reasonably when compared to the average drive-thru chains. Its aesthetics reminds its guests of a simpler time. It is the smell of deep-frier oils in the air and a greasy bag of fried food to share with friends and family. It's a beloved spot for some and a misunderstood spot by others. Ultimately, I say that our realtor was right and that everyone living in or passing through Columbia should experience it at least once. Those who know what they are signing up for when they visit Jumbo House are likely in for a good time. So, go grab yourself a Johnny Burger, hot fries and a cold drink and become a true Colombian. read more

It took 42 minutes to not get our food. i don't know what is worse, the service or the Disgusting, rude cashier. Lightbulbs out, mangled old nasty menus, floors filthy, bathroom was a murder scene, the restaurant smelled like a dump, the signage lights were all out. Lost our order after waiting for 30 mins . when we inquired about our order the cashier was so rude. Got our money back and left. 0/10 would not recommend . someone needs to report them to the health department read more

At my first visit to Tennessee in 2023, I had the Jumbo burger, fries and a chocolate milkshake. Soooo delicious! This visit, of course I'm having the same order. All was just as I remember it... sooo delicious!! The service was fast considering there was 6 of us ordering burgers, fries, and shakes. A friend of mine and myself celebrated "Galentine's" day on the 14th with a day off of shopping and lunch. We had lunch here, she had seen it on Facebook (she lives in M'boro) and I had seen it a few times b/c I live here now. We decided to have lunch here. It is small, only about 5-6 places to sit inside with tables outside as well (but it was a bit chilly that day) This place was packed from about 12-2! I mean filled to the gillls!! I got the medium sized cheese burger with onion rings and a coke and my friend got the small cheese burger with fries. There are only a few ladies working in there and they were pushing the petal to the metal. It was delicious. I find myself craving this now. It was served to our table (we snagged one) in a plain brown paper bag piping hot. The onion rings were out of this world and so was my cheese burger. Please be patient and kind to them if you go there as they go as fast as humanly possible to keep up with the demand. I am definitely going back soon to get some take out. I wish they had a printed menu to take with you, next time I will take a picture of the one on the counter so I have it for future orders. I loved this place. We have dined here for over a year now. Everything is affordable and delicious. This is a go-to place for a good hearty burger in the Columbia area. I love the livers & gizzards, corn nuggets, burgers, fried chicken, and chili dogs. Service is always great. Just be patient with your order. It will 100% take a while to get your food. (15-30 minutes wait) Ps. If you have plans to go somewhere after dining inside, you may need to spray a perfume or Febreze on your clothes. You know what I am talking about? I pass by here often. Never had a desire to go in, but I was hungry and curious. First and last time. This place is so run down , stunk, every single surface- counters, walls, floors, tables were absolutely filthy. Filthy hvac vents with dirt and mold hanging over cooking areas- As someone with 20 years of restaurant experience I kept wondering why then Maury County Health Dept hasn't cited / closed them down. I have been to Jumbo house on and off, but not recently for what used to be their fantastic roasted chicken that era has ended. It was dry. You could tell the chicken was old because the bones were black and it had no taste and it was overcooked I would not recommend it for the chicken anyway. read more

This is where the locals go. It belongs to the locals. I am not a local, but I found them on Yelp and was just passing through. I was in the mood for a good cheeseburger. The menu has a few different iterations of the cheeseburger, they have a sign that breaks down each one w/ a name. I went for the double cheeseburger - which she said was the most popular. Got small onion rings, small fries, and fried pickles. Someone told me to get the shake - you can mix flavors - I don't think I had the capacity to take that challenge on. Here's where the breakdowns starts. I got there and they were not busy, so they were nice. But then the 4pm rush comes in and all of a sudden there were 5-6 customers in line. The staff gets stressed out and it soon becomes disorganized. Yelling insues, and I'm waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting (keep in mind it wasn't busy when I ordered). I'm soon observing customers who came in after me getting their food first. Oh gee whiz. So I go to the counter and ask, apparently there was another order w/ my first name they got mixed up, but a lady in the back yells at me "here's your ticket we got it!!!". So I oblige and take a step back. I wait a few more minutes and I finally get my food. The double cheeseburger - they gave me extra onions like I asked (bonus!) but it was overcooked and dry, I was not impressed. The fries and onion rings were nearly cold, so I only had a couple of each, I did not feel like complaining. But the fried pickle spears - those were piping hot, and they were crispy good. That's what salvaged this from becoming a 1-star experience. It's apparent when they get busy they become disorganized and execution is compromised. So if you want to eat here I'd go when it's not busy, get the fried pickles, and that's about it. The burger didn't taste anything special - and like I said it was overcooked. Had the great southern hospitality service when I put in my order, but it declined when they got busy. read more

To the lady behind the counters response " I just works here" maybe a better answer should have been 1. We don't feel like serving you! 2. Were so busy we ran outta food! 3. I've driven by this place several times. It's always busy. If I guessed, it's because their service is so poor. There were several disgruntled people waiting on the day of my visit. I waited a very long time myself. When I asked about my order, the young girl who I was talking with basically ignored my inquiry. I asked for a refund and was immediately given my food. It was not good. I had a very typical burger and fries. The burger was average at best and fries are downright terrible. Soda mix is bad. I also don't get a great feeling about the cleanliness of this restaurant. We all have bad days and I felt for the staff but I will never be back. read more

I visited the restaurant to pick-up some burgers last Friday night. The restaurant was packed with customers dining-in and picking up orders. I was impressed by how quickly the line went and the staff were so pleasant, even though they were slammed! Their busyness didn't affect the quality of their food at all and my delicious burger and fries was well worth the wait. Family-owned, classic Diners like these are a dying breed. You really get a sense of the past, when you step inside. The interior of the space strikes the perfect balance between vintage fun and rustic flair. I can't imagine a better environment for enjoying a hearty burger and platter of fries. Other customers there raved about their homemade milkshakes. Today we choose Jumbo house for a late lunch at 2pm. I will preface this with that we have eaten here a few times before today. Lady at the counter was emotionless & rude- along with her inattentive staff. It took 1 full hour for us to get our food, which was given to us incorrect. We had ordered 6 burgers. It took an additional 20mins to fix one burger. We are huge supporter's of small business- being one ourselves. But im shocked this place is still open - it needs a visit from the health department. Seats and table were sticky and the venting on the ceiling literally had years worth of dust and who knows that else on them.
