Incredible and pure bar experience. Cash only but worth it as their drinks are strong and fun times and new conversation abound. This space is a long running space and knows what it is and thats why it should be and is celebrated.

The oldest gay bar in New York City! "A historic gay bar, Julius' started in 1864 and became a renowned headquarters for the gay community." It's bigger than you think, love the ambiance and the old photos of famous ppl on the walls. Tried the Dyke Beer (naturally lol) which was pretty good. Food looked/smelled good, but didn't try any... maybe next time. Would def recommend as a quick stop for drinks + vibes during your night on the town.

We all know the Stonewall Inn as the site of the riots that kick-started the LGBTQ movement in 1969. In recent years, it has become more a tourist attraction, especially among out-of-town families looking to Instagram a "gay bar". However, just around the corner in a relatively nondescript building at West 10th and Waverly Place is a true gay bar. In fact, it's New York City's oldest gay bar having been established as gay in 1966. Inside it was full of regular locals with only the occasional appearance of a tourist, I.e.,if you don't count me and Jamie W. We didn't feel like interlopers though thanks to the been-there, done-that humor of Andre, the deadpan bartender, and the royal presence of Simone (photo https://yelp.to/4m9rPOTT68). We discovered Simone was featured in the 2022 book, "Legends of Drag: Queens of a Certain Age" which we ordered from Amazon right after. She regaled us with colorful stories of the West Village, while Andre poured us $10 cocktails, a Tequila Sunrise for me and a Maker's Mark & Ginger for Jamie (photo: https://yelp.to/glBTqXaTpj). We could see coming back and hanging out here a lot longer like a gay Norm and Cliff. Gee, as if you didn't know Vera was just a beard. COCKTAILS - 4 stars...certainly potent enough and well priced AMBIANCE - 5 stars...a truly authentic gay bar with history and special guests like Simone SERVICE - 5 stars...a friendly bartender in Andre TOTAL - 5 stars...truly gay RELATED - Exploring NYC's dining and drinking scene? Intimate dive-y cash only gay bar! Met up a friend here to catch up and it was definitely the right place to listen to jukebox tunes and have a cold beer to cocktail! Service was great! Servers were attentive and made us aware of the cash only policy and ATMs.

Such a great classic burger, I love how late the kitchen stays open and this burger just hits the spot.

The vibe there is incredible and we did have a great time plus the waiter who took care of us was such an adorable man and took time chatting with us etc and that was really appreciated. Also they don't get a cocktail menu by hisself but they can do mostly any cocktails which was really awesome

We love this place!! We started visiting over the last two years and have to check it out when in NYC. Such a cozy and friendly neighborhood bar. We adore Chad who is the sweetest and most welcoming guy here (and overall a gem). The services is always spot-on and the food is also really delicious. We always enjoy Julius' martinis along with their burgers, fries and mozzarella sticks. Such a great spot, now a historic place and the oldest gay bar in NYC. We can't wait to go back and see Chad soon!!! He's the best!!!

My boyfriend loves this place, and we came here a couple weeks back with a few of his friends from his NYC days. It was fun, loud, and absolutely perfect. I especially love the graffiti that covers the walls - everywhere, even the bathrooms! If you look up "dive bar" on Urban Dictionary, I guarantee you that Clockwork Bar will show up. That's not to say it's a bad thing - far from it, actually. However, just know that it's not a place to bring your parents (unless of course, they're punks from the 80's themselves!). Despite the "rough around the edges" look, the bartenders are awesome and friendly. Boogie is the man - he took care of us all night, and he's great. Clockwork is definitely a unique and off the beaten path bar, but a must visit for any unique night out in NYC!

It appears to be a local pub with no outdoor seating, a laid-back vibe, and affordable drinks. I liked that the atmosphere was chill, it wasn't bright (which I like), plenty of seating/stools and a good place to drink and wait until your lunch or possibly dinner reservations are ready.

I actually brought the bartenders birthday cake from Sant Ambroeus that night, which makes my experience last night even funnier in hindsight. I've noticed over time that some of the bartenders here have a habit of being incredibly friendly to men and noticeably less pleasant to women. Whatever. I'm there to have a drink, not make friends with the bartender, so I've never thought much of it. But last night was genuinely bizarre. I was ordering my fourth round of drinks and, as I had been doing all night, left a 20% tip on my tab. Unfortunately, I was using a card I rarely use and it didn't have enough funds to cover the entire charge, leaving a whopping $6 balance. Since I'd already tipped on the original transaction, I didn't add another tip to the remaining $6. Didn't think twice about it. When I went back for my fifth round, a grown man, probably in his 40s or 50s and wearing what I assume were Halloween-colored contacts, decided to confront me about supposedly not tipping him ALL NIGHT. I explained that I'd been tipping 20% on every tab and that the only charge I hadn't tipped on was the remaining $6, because I'd already tipped on the original bill. He continued to insist I hadn't tipped him or "his colleague" once. Then came my favorite part... He told me that if I "can't afford to come here, I shouldn't come." Sir this is Spring Lounge I genuinely couldn't believe a grown man was trying to lecture me about my finances over a tip on a $6 balance, especially when I'd been tipping all night. And to be that condescending to a 24-year-old woman over something he hadn't even bothered to verify is just embarrassing. The funniest part is that I still left him a 30% tip after he spoke to me that way. Apparently I can afford to come here after all! I understand that bartenders deal with rude customers and people who don't tip. I also understand that tipping is important. What I don't understand is the need to humiliate a paying customer over an assumption that wasn't even true I think some of the staff here have confused being a little rough around the edges with having a personality. There's a difference between a classic NYC dive bar with attitude and a middle-aged man being unnecessarily nasty to a young woman. One is charming. The other is just tacky. Anyway I won't be rushing back. Plenty of bars in New York where you can get a drink without having to defend your bank account to a man in Halloween contacts.
