JMBS teaches dance using an Arts Education standards and curriculum. At JMBS we identify and demonstrate movement elements & skills as well as use correct terminology. We teach choreography principles as students use dance as a way to create and communicate meaning. Critical and creative thinking skills are developed by involving students in problem solving during dance class. Students learn about various cultures, music, and historical periods and make connections between dance, other disciplines, healthy living, and how the body moves.
Our focus is on artistry, performing, and technique where students take ownership, make goals, and develop a joy of dance. Students work together as a team, and are taught to encourage each other and be happy for others in their dance goals. Students find and believe in their own unique creative expression. True self worth and a positive image are the outcome.
History
Established in 1994.
JMBS started out as as a small studio in Julie's basement and quickly outgrew the space. It is now located in Pleasant View, Utah and houses over 200 students.
Meet the Business Owner: Julie M.
Julies passion for teaching dance began at age 11 as a student teacher. When she was 18, she joined a performing dance company and also performed in community theatre, and WSC Theatre. At age 19, she opened her first dance school while attending college. She furthered her education at University of Utah, Ryrie Woodbury Dance Company, Royal Academy of London Accredited Teachers and holds a Bachelors Degree at Weber State University specializing in dance, technical sales, and family studies. Julie is on the staff at Weber State University B.I.S. Capstone Committee to help students in dance education. She also trained in a variety of dance forms including jazz, tap, modern, creative dance, character ballet, pointe, musical theatre and folk dancing. Julie continues attending master classes and dance teaching methodologies.
In addition to managing the studio, Julie creates curriculum, trains teachers, choreographs the JMBS Nutcracker, and is involved with artistic direction.
