WANTED: a big strong man to help me speak to the "man" who messed up my car at Julian's Auto Repair in Newburgh and refuses to speak to me because I'm not a big strong man. BAD BAD BAD. A couple months ago, I was in a minor car accident through no fault of my own. I was driving home at night, someone was coming at me with brights on so I couldn't fully see, causing me to not see an object that was on the road in time to avoid it. The object ended up being a small boulder, which I hit and that messed up my car badly but somehow didn't total it. I got it towed, called insurance, and got the repairs needed done at Julian's Autobody on Broadway in Newburgh NY. A month later, I took my car to Stage1 Auto in Lake Katrine for a routine oil change and they kindly asked me if something had happened to my car recently. When I explained my accident, they took me to my car to show me I had a very loose wheel bearing (which meant that my tire could fall off at any given moment). They advised me not to drive the vehicle and kept it overnight to inspect it. Upon inspection, they found that my axle (which helps secure the wheel bearing) was shredded up and broken. They said that something like this must have happened either because of my accident or, more likely, during repair, as my insurance assessor would not have overlooked it. They advised me to contact Julian's to let them know about the damage and give them a chance to right the wrong. I also contacted my insurance who made the same suggestion. When I first called Julian's, I spoke with a representative who, once I started explaining my situation, became very rude and spoke to me in a way that acknowledged any possibility of accountability for the situation. The rep suggested that I bring my car back to them in Newburgh from Lake Katrine (about 1 hour) so they could assess it, and if they felt like the damage was caused by them that they'd happily fix it. I told them that I was advised not to drive the car for fear of losing a tire, to which they responded "well you've been driving it and it's been fine." I also asked what would happen if they didn't feel like the damage was their fault, to which they replied "then we'll figure something out." I was not trying to risk my life by making the drive to Newburgh and not trying to bring it there only to get told I was out of luck AND be stranded in Newburgh, and when I expressed this to the rep he said "well I dunno what to tell ya." At this point, I told Stage1 to order a replacement axle and make the repair for me, as I had been missing days of work and needed my car back. The following day, I decided to call Julian's back to speak with the shop owner but wanted my insurance to be on the line as well to offer insights. We called together and spoke to the owner, Al, who immediately met us with an extremely hostile "what the hell's the problem?" . As I began to explain the situation, he cut me off multiple times but finally suggestedI bring the car down for them to look at. When I, again, mentioned that I was uncomfortable driving it down, he also asked me "well it's been fine, hasn't it?" When I mentioned my lack of trust in his shop, he then offered to have it towed down. I told him that had someone offered to tow it earlier on I would have done so, but that I already gave Stage1 the greenlight to fix it because I couldn't miss work anymore. This was immediately met with both yelling and cursing and the statement "nah nah, sweetheart, that's some bullshit. I assume you don't know anything about cars so lemme teach ya something." He then accused Stage1 of just wanting work and trying to make up problems to get my money, that it definitely wasn't Julian's fault and there's no way to prove that it was, that (again) "this was bullshit", and then he hung up the phone on me and my insurance agent. My insurance agent and I agreed that this man had absolutely no respect for either of us, mainly me, and we were appalled at the confidence he had to make such defensive, aggressive and sexist statements to a customer. At this point, my car is now fixed. But I am extremely disheartened by how long of a journey this has been, by the total lack of accountability by Julian's AND by the inexplicable rudeness and aggression of everyone I dealt with there throughout. What I want is the following: I want Julian's to AT LEAST pay the $250 for the new axle I got (preferably I'd ask for $350 on top of that, which is what it cost for the wheel bearing and realignment, but I can't see that happening). And I truly believe I need a "big strong man" to physically come down to Julian's in Newburgh with me to speak to this "man" in person so that he can't bully me. I have never called any person or business out online like this but am feeling really disheartened and angry that Julian's got my money in the first place, made me spend more later for their mistakes AND were just really aggressive and horrible about it. read more

I needed an inspection done immediately and all local area inspection services asked me to schedule an appointment for next week. I called Julian's and they were able to schedule me in shortly before they closed on the same day. The mechanics were pleasant and owner cordial. This is the worst experience we have ever gone through with our car. The apartment complex we live in Orchard Hills Landing ( DO NOT RENT THERE) called on Christmas eve and have our car towed because it was parked in our next neighbor parking space, but mind you, nobody lives there, it is an empty unit. The tow guy came, got our truck. 10 minutes later, I call the tow guy and he says he will call me back. My husband is already at their location waiting for this guy to come and give us the car. My husband is at their gate for an hour meanwhile I keep calling their number and nobody answers. I tell my husband to come home because it looks like nobody will give us the car, since the guy was not answering his phone. I call again after another hour and put my husband on the phone. Tow guy screams and cusses at my husband and that was that. So all of this happened Saturday, Christmas day around 3:30 pm. The business was closed over the holiday so not only nobody was there to give us the car, but we could not get it until yesterday, Tuesday the 27th. And to top it off, guess how much they charged us for tow and for storage that we did NOT want since we were there to pick up the car right away? guess how much? not in your wildest dreams you could not guess. Drum roll: $700!!! yes, seven hundred dollars!!! There you have it!!! this is Julian's Auto for you. I always knew that tow places are despicable and they charge you and arm and a leg because they know you need your car, but I have never not once in my life heard of any place charge this much. My husband went to this place on Monday and the staff was just celebrating there and of course did not want to give the car until yesterday. My husband ask them at that point how much they think it was going to cost an approximation, and the guy there told him $250, only to come next day and charge him $700. What a nice Christmas gift this is, wouldn't you say? Please PLEASE do not do any business with this place, horrible staff, liars and just criminals if you ask me. read more

We recently needed an exhaust repair on a 10 year old Subaru. After several estimates, we called Julian's and the entire experience was a pleasure. From the first contact (Jessica) was both friendly and helpful. We arrived there late on a Sunday afternoon and they took the car into the garage for the mechanic to work on the next morning. As promised we had the car back on Monday after lunch! The owners Al & Rich have a top-notch business and the best staff. I would return there again if I ever need service/repair and I want to mention that it was fair and affordable as compared to many places that I had visited.
