Just stopped here for lunch on our way driving down to Savannah and it was a perfect lunch stop! Locally owned with fresh home-cooked food, it was a fast but delicious stop over. Even better, the prices are more than reasonable! I got a fried green tomato BLT, a side of mac-n-cheese and a drink for less than $10! Definitely stop here. My husband and I were driving back from Florida and hoping to find some local cuisine during our one night in South Carolina. I researched dinner locations on the road and we ended up at Julia Belles. It looks likes a fast food restaurant but don't be fooled. There were lots of great menu options (great appetizers) and we ate well! Even better was the service - the best I've had in years! The young women that took are orders and served us were wonderful - welcoming, friendly, and attentive. They each stopped by our table numerous times to check in and make sure we had everything we needed. The owner than came over and we had a lovely chat. I feel like I made lots of new friends. A great experience after a long day on the road. This will be an annual visit. read more

Driving up from Florida after being evacuated due to hurricane Irma during our vacation to Florida we found Julia Belle's Restaurant! This gem was THE HIGHLIGHT to the "#worstvacationever" ! The hospitality alone would have earned 5 stars! All were warm, embracing, informative and entertaining! Delightful conversations! And then there was the FOOD!! Absolutely unbelievable! Every bite full of distinct flavor and texture! Fried fish lightly battered crunch on the outside and beautifully moist on the inside ! Grits which had texture and bite full of corn flavor! Biscuits which tasted like mom makes! A chicken sandwich moist and flavorful on homemade bread! AMAZING! And then there was desert! Make it a stop and see for yourself! THE BEST!! read more

From the road, this place looks a little dreary, but inside is some of the best southern food I've had. Don't hesitate to stop in. The fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, pork chops, and mac n cheese were all top notch and priced very reasonable. Stopped with my family on the way to Florida. We got the blue plate specials and fried chicken and then ate outside in the covered seats. It was delicious and a very unique ambiance. We found this restaurant on Yelp. It's in a little strip mall, but the food was extraordinarily delicious. The ladies at the counter were super friendly and helpful. The restaurant was clean inside and had tables that are spaced apart. The manager was also walking around the restaurant, making sure all the customers were happy. And we were! The barbecue egg rolls, shrimp sandwich, and fried green tomato BLT were all yummy. The kids loved the kids meals but said they green beans were too salty (the adults thought they were fine!) Stopped in on 4/16/22.... had a great meal, staff was beyond friendly... tried to leave a tip, and was shocked when I was asked not to since the owner took ALL TIPS!!! (there was a tip jar). I noticed an abundance of cameras all around the dining area. I was heart broken that I couldn't tip... but, I will be letting the labor board know about this bs. Julia Belle's is an all around excellent example of southern hospitality. All of the food was delicious and we were greeted and checked in on frequently throughout our meal by the owners. The shrimp and grits, roasted cabbage, and white russian pecan pie were the standouts of the meal, but everything we had was delicious. It's clear they take great care in ensuring the quality of all aspects of their restaurant: food, atmosphere, cleanliness, and hospitality. Eating there felt like sharing a meal with family and old friends, even though we didn't know anyone else there! We'll definitely be back the next time we drive through South Carolina. p.s. - If you like cabbage you MUST get theirs. It is smokey and perfectly roasted. The cabbage enthusiast of our group said it was quite possibly the best cabbage he's ever had. read more

I'm posting this based on one visit, which I don't prefer to do, however, based on quality for price with this type of home style cooking, I can't justify another visit yet. It could easily have been a bad day, but the portions were small compared to places in this same genre nearby. I wasn't impressed with the food either though. It tasted as though it had been pre-made and was kept warm too long- so it was dry. I can say that they appear to be moderately frequented by guests as I pass by their new location en route the Starbucks it is located near, so there must be some draw to it. I have never seen it crowded though. I just haven't quite found the positive here yet. I plan to revisit and update this review hopefully soon. Let's hope for better results! The food is not 5 stars. But the overall experience is. The people are nice and friendly. It cost a couple dollars more than McDonald's and takes a half minute longer to get fed. And it is fun! I did not like the White Russian pecan pie, but someone else did. The fried pie no one liked. Good chicken, good catfish, good sides. They had a weird waffle with chicken in a peach sauce that someone in our group went crazy for, I didn't try that. We will be back. read more

We were in Florence for about 2 months for my job. We finally made it to Julia Belle's on our last night in town. Service was outstanding. We were greeted by the owner and she first asked where we were from and what brought us to Florence. She also explained how they started the restaurant. Our server came over and took our order. I highly recommend the alligator bites and cheese spinach dip. I had the Low Country Boil and it was good to. Basically the SC version of a Cajun Boil but not as spicy. If you are in the area stop by and take a break and enjoy some good SC comfort food. read more

My husband and I were driving from nyc to Orlando, and happened to see the sign for the Pee Dee farmers market. While there we noticed Julia Belle's restaurant had lots of cars in the lot. We took a chance, and it was one of those moments that make a road trip worthwhile. I had the chicken in pastry. OMG delicious and hubby had the fried pork chops with slaw and beans. Great food. I spent a day in Florence recently and wound up looking for a place for some real South Carolina home cooking: not a national or regional chain, not fancy, not a place I'd feel awkward eating alone, not, not, not, not. Was fairly resigned to just making sure I ate something, anything before bedtime. But when I came across this place, it was a lock: daily specials that change, varied southern specialties, offers a set lunch / cafeteria-style blue plate special (mark my words - if a down-home, down-south restaurant is hanging its financial survival on a very limited selection of menu items each day it's because they're PD great), plus their menu includes items more sophisticated or complex than your average hole-in-the-wall soul food dive. Really enjoyed my visit, from menu, actual food served, all the way to service. Would visit again in a heartbeat if in the area. Spent 30$ on a meal, an app, a tea, and a couple of extras to enjoy later. **Though I don't usually review this sort of spot after one visit, I'm doing so to document the impact of one fairly off-grid tourist, traveling without family, just to make an HB2 related point** read more

We stopped in on our way to Richmond from Florida. My husband got the Mayberry and I got the fried green tomato blt. While my blt was good, his pork chop sandwich was amazing. So amazing in fact that I dreamed about it all week and we planned our trip back to be able to stop here for lunch. Definitely got the Mayberry today and my husband got the country fried steak. Will have to find more places north of Florida so I can have an excuse to stop here again. read more

And it of course pleases the owners and staff at the restaurant you go to because of the YELP app. We checked this out when we started our yearly journey to Florida, about 15 hours ago, when we are already thinking about food to eat for dinner in Florence! We checked into the hotel, walked the dog, then rushed over to Julia Belle's immediately! Easy to find, really a delightful little restaurant- exuding Southern Hospitality and good home cookin! We were greeting like we were friends and it was relaxed and comfortable right away. We were told the specials for today and we ordered Southern Fried Chicken! 2 sides and unsweetened iced tea! 10 minutes later the food arrived and we were giggling like crazy, we were so happy to have this amazing looking meal to eat! It was HOT and crispy and cooked perfectly. It was more than I could eat, but lucky for me my husband can always jump in for clean up! I enjoyed every bite! The sides were good, we had green beans with hot pepper sauce, Beefy baked beans, fried potatoes and coleslaw (Savannah's). Now I must confess that even before we ordered dinner, we saw their dessert board! PEACH COBBLER! Slam dunk! We almost ordered 2 but we are not piggies! So we ordered one and attacked it like it was the last meal for both of us! All the staff at Julia Belle's came and talked with us, they could not have been any friendlier! This place is great. I only have three stars because it could use a few tweaks. We each got the sandwich special of the day. Today it was the pepper jack burger with homemade chips for $7.99 and a side of fried green tomatoes $2.49. The lady at the counter was lacking in cheerfulness, but the owner came out shortly after we sat down to wait for our food and was extremely friendly. She made sure we knew about the free WiFi and thanked us profusely for coming in. Our food was brought out by another lady and she was extremely sweet and friendly. The food looked great. I was put off by the 4 half dollar sized slices of fried green tomato...for the price it was kind of sad on the big plate they served them. Our burgers were delicious and well seasoned. The buns need help. They are nice buns but heavy. They were soft and fresh but were thick and dryish. Brush those buns with a light coat of butter and toss them on the grill to warm and toast and they would make a perfect burger. Request this if you order the burger and you won't be disappointed. Not far from i95 at what we typically find to be the cheapest gas exit on our frequent trips between nc & florida. The building doesn't look like much, but the food is amazing and the staff and owner were very friendly. I had the crab cake which was probably the best I've ever had. My husband has the chicken pastry which was also very good. They were very accomidating to the foid choices of our picky prescjooler. Save room for dessert! The white Russian pecan pie and fried fruit pie did not disappoint. We look forward to going back again! read more
