I have eaten here three times in their new location. Shrimp and Grits first time and it was one of the best I have ever had! Today had their Chicken Fried Chicken special with Mash Potatoes and Gravy with green beans. Was fantastic. Service is great people are incredibly friendly. I now find myself coming up with excuses to drive the hour drive to come to Florence and eat here! Great prices! I think the Shrimp and Grits was just under $10. read more

Fantastic fresh home cooking - quaint casual ambiance. Note you order at register, sit anywhere, and food brought to you. I tried shrimp and grits - huge serving with tender shrimp, wonderful bacon, and grits were creamy & cheesy! Delicious and filling. Really delicious meal with a friendly staff. Very clean and spacious! The chicken tenders were the most tender I've ever had with a thin coating that wasn't salty or spiced. It was perfect melt in your mouth with Cole slaw that was also tasty. Husband had the crab cake sandwich which was also excellent. Planning to stop by again for sure. read more

Went today and the food was okay for the price. Had the blue plate special which consisted of meats, 2 sides & a biscuit. Cole slaw was tangy, the crust on the chicken fried steak was good and the meat was tender. The rice and fresh butterbeans were not what I was expecting for this to be a southern restaurant. Tasted nothing like the butterbeans that I grew up on. I've had better butterbeans out of a can. The biscuit was the best part, IMO. The service was good and the restaurant clean. I liked some of the food. The collard greens were salty but i think it was because of the bacon. The seafood chowder is REALLY good i loved it! The customer service was really good. The biscuit was also really good. The fried shrimp was amazing and the fries tasted really. The rosemary pork chop didn't taste like rosemary it tasted like salt. read more

If you're looking for damn good home cooking then look no further. We were passing by enroute to FL and stopped based on other yelp reviews. Take my advise and place your order online before you arrive, it will be ready and waiting for you when you get there. The Cheeseburger is better than anything you can make at home - not too greasy and cooked just right with lots of melted cheese oozing from underneath the bun. The Mayberry Sandwich is the bomb, so says my husband. Although we didn't order a slice of pie I'm willing to bet they're amazing too just by the look of them! read more

We were in town for a birthday celebration and stayed close to this eatery. It was a cute little place that could easily be passed by. So glad we didn't! The food and hospitality was so enjoyable. My family raved about everything we ate. We loved how caring everyone was and even the owner stopping at each table to chat with all of the customers. Where off I-95 there is a bevy of fast food chains a mile down the road is this gem, an undeniable 5 star place, there is the epitome of southern cooking from a northern point of view. Ended up gettting the blue play special for $7.99 with a sweet tea for an extra two bucks. The special was fried pork chops and even though I'm not a fan of pork chops I knew these would be good. They were fabulously battered and fried. Got kids meals two of chicken fingers w mac n cheese as well as the hot dog. Would opt to not get Capri suns next time but all and all a good experience. Really delicious fried chicken, shrimp and grits and fresh ice tea. Also, the White Russian pecan pie was great. Little things sometimes matter, and I really appreciated that they could change around the order a little to accommodate my eating preference. So we are on a trip back home to Florida from PA when we decided to spend the night in Florence, SC. We had the famous "I dunno, what do you wanna do" conversation about dinner. The wife suggested Julia Belle's. I'm glad she did. We went in and ordered and were greeted by the staff with friendly smiles and a great atmosphere. We got our food and it was great. AND...my son ate the chicken and said he LOVED it. Myself and my son are super picky about what we eat. And for him to say that says something about this place. I saw the great granddaughter of Miss Julia Belle cleaning the windows and then making sure everyone was happy. She then came over, asked what brought us in and once we told her, she said "Thank you for making us a part of your (our) trip". That, to me shows that she actually cared about why we were there. Legit the best "roadside" food we've ever stumbled upon. Less than a mile off the highway and I would drive much further if necessary! Great service and atmosphere. Stopped here for dinner on our way to Florida. Great local place! Everything fresh and produce is right from the farmers market which is next door. Love that we were able to sit outside with our dog. Try the pork barbecue egg rolls- delicious! My son had a cheeseburger, my husband the low country boil, my daughter the fried chicken and I had a hamburger special with fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese. It was all so yummy!! After scrolling the yelp reviews looking for a lunch spot, we stopped here as it sounded like we could get a quick lunch and some southern cooking. Cute little place - 5 or 6 tables inside and some outside seating as well. You order at the counter. Menu on the wall. Turned out to be a little disappointing. My husband asked for the pulled pork sandwich , which they didn't have that day.... I asked for the seafood chowder (shrimp, fish, & corn) which they also didn't have. I ended up with a fried shrimp sandwich with cold slaw on top , which was just ok - needed sauce of some kind. Husband ended up with a burger which was nothing special and a little over cooked. Service was very good and all were very friendly....maybe we just hit it on an off day. read more

What a treat! Heading up I-95 we decided to stop for lunch. We love finding something other than fast food. JBs was delicious! We ate inside. Tables were separated due to Covid-19. I had their fried green tomato BLT and my husband the Carolina shrimp sandwich. Both were perfect. And cheese grits as a side most satisfying. Each employee we were involved with were super nice! They seemed to take pride in their job. They checked to see what we needed and cleared our plates and exchanged niceties. If you find yourself near this Florence exit, you must stop in! Wonderful find conveniently located off I-95. Very interesting and affordable menu that the hospitable owner has collected over her travels around the south. Right off 95, we stopped here on the way to Savannah. Beats any fast food or gas station offerings. The woman working were all very sweet and even offered to make the cabbage side without bacon since I don't eat meat. We got the friend green tomato BLT, saluted cabbage, MAC and cheese and salmon cakes and all were excellent including the biscuit that the blue plate special comes with. Only wish would be that they stop using styrofoam cups but I forget how it is down south with it everywhere. Definitely a breath of fresh air on 95, will stop back on the way home! read more

Going south on I 95 through Florence SC I checked Yelp for a place to eat. This place had the best ratings of any thing in the area. So when checking in to a motel, I asked the clerk for a good place to eat she said Julie Bells was excellent. She was right, good home cooking at a good price. Great little restaurant right off Rte 95. Very clean and staff was so nice! We had the fried chicken dinner...I had coleslaw (yum!)and Mac & Cheese as my sides. Mac and cheese was a bit salty for my tastes but flavorful. My husband had the sautéed cabbage with bacon bits and sweet potato waffle fries and enjoyed both. Great Family atmosphere, the staff are super friendly, and one of the owners came out to greet us. My boyfriend ordered a second helping of the squash casserole because it was so damn good. The Fried green tomatoes were crunchy and perfectly seasoned, all you could ask for. If you're up for dessert, the White Russian Pecan was A-maxing! Wish I could rate less than one star. Do not get your hopes up for a "scratch-made buttermilk biscuit" because you're getting a cheap brown & serve roll. So many menu descriptors that it took me back to the late 80's. The vegetables are obviously frozen just by looking at the snipped green beans and the mashed potatoes were clearly not mashed in-house. I saw a person from the back carry in what appeared to be pre-cooked mashed potatoes in a plastic bag. Yuck! The lemonade is visible that it wasn't from squeezed lemons so it must've been "from concentrate." My dessert tasted just like box cake mix that a 12 year old can bake. Also I saw the gray haired woman behind the counter scratching her long hair and a few minutes later she grabbed a piece of skin off of the previously fried chicken sitting under a heat lamp. You can't miss her because she's running around screaming orders like a chicken with her head cut off. When she's not doing this, we noticed her blabbing to another couple while they sat letting their food get cold. My wife got the shrimp and we saw the cooks carry in bags of frozen shrimp so she lost her appetite. Be prepared to step back in time 20+ years and expect much less than what you read in other reviews. Very outdated and nothing is "fresh". I think people give 5 stars just because of it being a barn close to a farmers market.. even though these vegetables probably came in cans, frozen, or pre cooked. read more

My siblings and I stopped here for lunch during our road trip back to RI. Immediately upon entering the restaurant, we were cheerfully greeted by the owner, who explained the menu and that day's specials. I ordered the fried catfish, with baked beans and home chips. The food came out in less than 10 minutes and was very hot and fresh. Everything was delicious! During our meal, the owner came to our table to ensure everything was good, needed drink refills or anything else to make our meal enjoyable. I was able to try my brothers fried pork chops and my sisters chicken and waffles, both which were delicious as well! The only downside is that I am over 900 miles away, so I won't be able to try the other menu items. Definitely recommended! read more
