Really good quality food and tea, which I love, but what makes this place stand out so much is how lovely all the people who work here are, when I am on queen and need a tea, I will always go here over any other coffee shop in the area because the people are always so sweet. One star too many! Ordered a crepe with Nutella and strawberries. While waiting, I looked around and the place is a disaster ; Food on the floor, place us disgustingly dusty, no organization or flow to anything they do. I watched her make my crepe with no gloves on after she had wiped them on her apron. She had a piece of paper towel in the container of butter and began to use it to grease the flat top. By that time I knew I was not going to eat whatever she made. I got my order, opened up the crepe to see the strawberries were very rotten. How do you serve rotten food to paying customers? I don't know how these people pass the city food inspection? Think about that next time you go there to eat.... read more

Delicious crepes! Nice place for a chat and a coffee. Not accessible (2 levels with bathrooms upstairs, and a concrete lip at the entryway) but two tables at the entrance are reserved for strollers/elderly/infirm, which as a stroller-haver I appreciated! read more

I often hit this spot for lunch when I am down in the beach. IT has everything I could want in a nice meal. Fast courteous and GREAT food! Now as if that isn't enough to make you hightail over there immediately it fits nicely in your (don't spend the wad) budget. Nice for beachers and visitors alike! THEY even have a reward card for coffee, at a time when most coffee shops ditched them and hiked their prices(not saying whom just sayin), Well worth the pop in, mark my words! * ask about their HOMEMADE chicken pot pie....amazing!!! read more

I popped into Juice & Java, one of the few places left on queen street east between Kenilworth and Glen Manor (seriously slim pickings..) to get a toasted bagel before work. I ordered right away and waited over 10 minutes. When I opened my 'toasted' bagel at work, I found soft, soggy damp bready buttered pieces of bagel. It was NOT toasted at all, but looked and tasted like it was put in the microwave. For the cost of 2.10 and waiting over 10 minutes.. (the cook, made 2 sandwiches and another order while I waited for my bagel.. & then gives me a crappy bagel with attitude when I asked if it would be much longer...)~ This was a crap experience! This place is lucky to be alive in business and I'm sure it's only because there's no competition. Anyone looking to open a decent place in the east end of the beaches will make a fortune if they do it right. This place is a hands down no. I will never go back. read more

We were looking for an independent coffee shop after our walk on the beach. We found Juice & Java. Went in. Looked pretty cute - big menu, lots of choices for tea and coffee and the even had a crepe menu. Our order was taken by the owner and our drinks made. We grabbed our drinks and walked up to the loft area and passed by the crepe spot. The floors were filthy, garbages overflowing, food and refuse on the floor. I thought - hmm... someone will be sweeping that up soon... Went upstairs. More garbage and food on the floor, tables not wiped and just generally kind of felt disgusting. We ordered a mixed fruit crepe - I wish I had taken a picture of what was supposed to be in it - but I didn't. I do know it said strawberry, blueberry and mango (and other fruit) and apple sauce. We got apple, banana and strawberry with some kind of sweet squirt of glaze over the top. No blueberries, no mango. I don't mind - they just should let you know in case the reason you are ordering it is because you love blueberries and mango!! The crepe was good, the chai latte was good, the coffee was fine. My husband used the mens room and said it was dirty. Hand towels on the floor, none left in the dispenser. They do have an air dryer so he could dry his hands. So on my way out I discreetly spoke to the owner. I said - 'You've got such a cute place here, great menu, great food, but it's totally filthy' He said 'We've had 1,000 people in here today, I can't keep up with the mess." Really? If you sold a minimum of 1,000 drinks you can at least hire someone to clean. The sink was full of water and dirty dishes. The counters were full and messy and probably dirty. I mentioned that he had only 8 reviews on trip advisor and 4 of them were complaining of the lack of cleanliness. He replied 'I've only been on trip advisor for a short time - they just signed me up' Weird - he has a review from 2012... Anyhow - I would love a local, small, really cute coffee shop like this to be successful. But not if he can't be bothered to spend the money to hire someone to clean. His excuses were lame. My local Starbucks sees more people than this cafe and they keep it clean. In the restaurant business you can't be too busy to clean. Only too lazy or too cheap. read more

Very healthy food here, and a hidden inner area to relax in. It was very unexpected. Very nice customer service as well.

Rather mediocre coffee and pastries. Tables and counter aren't very clean. This place could be much better.

Nice atmosphere, good coffee, nice people. But our omlette was really bland and tasted of frying pan. Only $7.99 and filled with nice fresh veg tho. Healthy enuf, nice presentation, just mediocre taste. read more

Worst smoothie ever!!! I asked for a Berry Mango smoothie with almond milk and I got a very weak tasting drink with barely any fruit and extremely pail in colour. I had trouble believing any berries were even used because the drink was so pale. Last time I checked strawberries were RED and mangos are ORANGE so why was my smoothie almost colourless??? I quickly came back with my smoothie to complain, and the response I got from the guy behind the counter was so disappointing. He shrugged his shoulders and said "sorry". Claimed he put berries in it and that was the end of the conversation. Didn't do anything to rectify the situation. For the hefty price that it cost, (PLUS TIP!!!) I was expecting a whole lot better of a response. Hell, a scoop of berries would have been enough. Worst customer service ever. Will never go back. read more

What makes Juice and Java so amazing is the staff. The staff go out of their way to make a customer feel special, whether it's bringing up my drinks because I have my hands full with my children or making my food quickly because I am in a rush...I get the best cappuccino from there! Also, I cant get enough of the delicious brie and apple crepe. My only criticism is that the staff work so hard to keep up with running the store and attending to the customers....i hope their work is appreciated because I know I do. read more

I've lived in the Beach my entire life, over 45 years, and the landscape of stores has changed quite a lot. When Juice 'n Java opened, I have to admit it's modern styling didn't fit right with me because I assumed it was trying to cash in on the popularity of the area and would be lacking the friendly, village vibe that makes this neighbourhood so welcoming. So I simply didn't go in for the longest time... turns out to be my loss. My wife and I have only recently "discovered" the charm and friendliness that the place has. The coffee is good, not afficiando level, but as good as a Starbucks or Second Cup brew. I take my coffee seriously, even roast my own beans, but I'm also content with a good brewed flavoured coffee once in a while, which is what I go here for. The fresh fruit smoothies we've tried have been really good. I'm pretty sure they don't bake their own pastries but the ones we've tried are of the quality you'd find in a bakery. We've had a couple crepes and they are good value, they make it fresh right in front of you and full of lots of stuff. Getting back to why it's a nice place, it has a warm feeling to go sit and read a book, do some work, or have a chat with friends. The upstairs is deceiving from below because it looks lke just a few tables, but when we went up the space opens up nicely to some booths and a large seating area. There is a "laid back" vibe there, not a "I want to be cool kinda laid back", but just a mixture of people enjoying a bite, a drink, or meeting friends. You can find a student on a laptop, moms meeting to chat, seniors laughing about old stories, or teachers from one of the nearby schools. And one of the reasons we are starting to go back is the service - genuinely caring. Sure, it's a coffee shop so don't expect fine dining attention. That they'll bring me my drink or food when there's a little wait is a nice enough touch. I'm pretty sure that two of the staff are the owners and they show the most hospitality, which percolates down to the employees. Last weekend it was busy inside so we sat at the only table left, a nice big newspaper reading table by the front counter. It was good to see the staff greet regulars by name, take the time to say more than Hello to the older folks, and even when the guy taking the coffee orders noticed a woman in line glancing back and forth at the bus stop (she was worried the bus would come before she got her coffee), he asked the people in line if they would be okay with her getting her coffee first. Like another poster wrote, it might be to our own detriment if it gets too popular. But then again, maybe other locals might read this and take a chance going in like we did, and they'll also discover a great place in the 'hood to go enjoy a bite and a coffee. This is my first posting to Yelp, I became aware of it because there is a sticker on the window next to where we sat this weekend. I hope it helps people when they're looking for a nice "local" place that is the kind of business that makes living in the Beach so wonderful. read more

Been living in the Beaches for 5 years - this cafe just keeps getting worse. My boyfriend and I go on the weekends for crepes because the guy that has been on crepe duty on the weekends creates amazing crepes. Always helped to substitute for the other shortcomings... They are always slow when you order a smoothie because the person making the smoothies is on cash. So if more customers comes in behind you, be prepared to wait...and wait... Today, crepe guy wasn't there. The ladies toilet was disgusting, complete with smears on the outside and toilet seat not attached. When I mentioned this to an employee (owner???) she said it was because they'd been busy. Well, they're always busy, so they should clean up once in awhile, maybe hire more staff with the enormous cash flow of a busy Beaches cafe. Busy as an excuse...interesting. They also provided cheap plastic forks to eat the crepes today which almost broke as you tried to pierce the crepe. Oh yeah: all for the bargain price of $40! But they were busy... read more
