That being said, 4 U Nails & Spa in Cresskill NJ is a winner. The place is surgical clean and orderly. You never see a speck of anything, they are rabid about cleanliness. I get my gel mani done once a month and when I say it lasts -- if my nails didn't grow as quickly as they do (I think menopause sped them up lol) I could go even longer. But at 4 weeks, the grow-in is obvious and I don't like the way they look. I don't get them done because they are wrecked, I get them done monthly to change up the color and be pampered a bit. Funny story: last Saturday I was getting my gel mani and looked down the line and saw every client had picked some shade of pink. I had earlier switched my choice from a gorgeous turquoise to an OPI pink. We all laughed that it was the last mani of Summer. Come Fall, the colors are killer: deep metallic wines, sapphires, jades, the mattes are also stunning. Now I think I will go every 3 weeks, just to try all the colors. The technicians are friendly, but don't expect deep conversations; some aren't conversant in English, but all are stunningly polite. Two TVs are usually showing food network or animal planet, which is just fine. I leave my phone in my purse and just enjoy some quiet time. Pedis also last a long time, and the leg massages are wonderful; I just don't get them as often as my mani; maybe I should. Not the bottom of the pricing chain. The gel mani runs $35, and I tip 20%. But, you get what you pay for. And 4 U Nails delivers every time. Call and book an appointment.

Just a heads up, they don't do acrylics or very intricate designs. I always call to make my appointment and the owner, Joanna, is very accommodating. She's squeezed me in last minute with no issues. I don't recommend coming as a walk-in because they are usually booked. The best nail techs are Joanna and John. I usually go to John. He's gentle, has good attention to detail, and works efficiently. He doesn't rush and ensures I'm happy with my nail length, shape, and color. As a client of over 5 years, I've had a mix of good and bad experiences with other techs. Some are more experienced than others. My biggest pet peeve is getting my cuticles cut, so once that happens... I lose my trust! I'm not as picky with my toes, so I'm happy with any tech doing my pedicure. The ladies are really sweet and make my feet look ~pretty~ The quality of their nail products are great. After removing it, the technician spilled an entire bottle of dark polish over my clothes and shoes, damaging expensive items. As I stood there covered in polish, with my clothes ruined, the manager would not even make eye contact. No one apologized, acknowledged the damage, or offered to reimburse me. I've since tried to contact the owner and have been given the runaround. This is penny wise and pound foolish. An apology and reimbursement would have gone a long way. Instead, they've lost a loyal customer.
