It was creamy, with a delicate orange flavor from orange peel, and a wonderful combination of cinnamon forward spices. It came with a scoop of ice cream which was good. I think they could lose the ice cream and serve more pudding, but I guess the ice cream would be nice on a hot day. My husband had the regional, marzipan heavy dessert and loved it. On our recent visit, we were welcomed by Alberto Cándido, the 92-year-old son of the restaurant's renowned founder, who proudly showed us the medal he was given by King Juan Carlos I, which passed on the title of Mesonero Mayor of Castile after his father's death. We were seated at a window table in the beautiful Álvaro de Luna salon to enjoy delicious entrees of Grilled Sea Bass, Battered Hake in Salsa Verde, Pork Snout with Mushrooms and, of course, the famous Cochinillo Asado. Paired with a delicious house red wine and followed by slices of rich chocolate cake and apple pie, the meal was outstanding, as was the service. It was a privilege to eat in this amazing restaurant and to meet the scion of the family dynasty that maintains the culinary legacy of Mesón de Cándido to this day. A highly recommended experience if you're ever in Segovia -- and well worth the quick train ride if you're visiting Madrid.

A young man took our drink order - an excellent beer selection - then a young woman came to answer some questions and to take our order. The food was served in the perfect sequence and in a timely manner. All dishes were very tasty and large portions. Starters were a pumpkin & carrot soup along with an avocado, grapefruit, corn, hard boiled egg, green salad. My husband and I shared both with him eating the egg so the salad was now vegan. Mains were the veggie lasagna for him and tofu & spinach spaghetti for me. Both served hot and delicious. I liked the tofu grilled on my pasta. The service was impeccably attentive. When it was time to cut the roast pig, the owner, Jose Maria appeared. We were gathered around to watch him deftly cut the pig with a plate into several servings. The cuchinillo was perfectly seasoned. The skin was thin and crispy and the flesh was moist and melt in your mouth tender. Everything we ordered was delicious! Later on, Jose Maria came to our table for a short chat and to indulge us with a few picture with him. This was a really special experience.
