    This restaurant was recommended by a few people. I'm glad we listened. They are known for their cochinillo. It was among the best things I ate on this trip. As I write this review I'm licking my chops. The pig was moist and tender and full of flavor. It's so soft they don't need a knife to cut it, they use a plate. One pig serves 6 people. The croquetas were also delicious. TBH, nothing we ate disappointed. I also recommend ordering the Autor. It's a wine that is only sold here at the restaurant. Service was great.

    Latent Review. If you are going to eat suckling pig, this is the place to go. You need a reservation. Decor is upscale. Food and Wine Service is top notch. They present the whole suckling pig to the table and then using a thick plate, chop it into portions. It's quite an event. Suckling pig is delicious, melt in your mouth goodness, skin crispy and an absolute delight. This is the place to eat this dish, a full measure above Casa Botin. It's worth the 30 min high speed train ride from Madrid to Segovia. Besides, there is quit a bit to see in the town, walk and build your appetite. They have their own farms and winery. The restaurant is frequented by Spaniards and a few tourists in the know.

    Visiting from Florida and Wales. This was truly refreshing culinary experience with very professional friendly service by L. Raul. We shared the Ensalada Siglo 21 amongst 4 adults. Was an experience of a salad! Also shared three portions of Cochinillo Asado and had a wonderful late lunch washed down with 3 bottles of wine, and finalized with two delicious desserts. Their menu is very extensive. The dining room is very classy inside. Truly a high-end experience at a reasonable price. Thanks Raul & the Jose Maria team.

    Made a reservation ahead of time, and there were no issues with getting seated. They give you a complimentary dish of mini toast with bread/jam to get started. I got the cochinillo (roast suckling pig), and my boyfriend got the pulpo. The cochinillo was incredible!! So tender and juicy! The meat was sitting in delicious juice, so every bite was heaven. The pulpo was disappointing though. It was the driest pulpo I've ever had. We got the ponche de Segovia for dessert, which was solid.

    The roasted suckling pig didn't disappoint. The skin was crispy and meat was tender and moist. At €30, you get a healthy portion. Even though it's delicious, It's a lot of pork to consume for one. I would get more variety for the table to try different items. Interior is very upscale and modern. Service was very good. I would suggest making reservations. I emailed restaurant the morning of and they responded within 5 minutes and was able to fit us in. We all agree the pork lived up to its billing. It's definitely a must try.

    The cochinillo is on standard. Phenomenal meal and professional staff. The decor is traditional, neat and clean. We had judiones, callos, crowuetas, cochinillo, cordero and natillas. Great food. Great restaurant!

    Best conchillo in la plaza mayor! Or say people say... honestly, pork is pork and it's all good to me, but we had to try this place out since it came highly recommended and had a gang of people waiting outside! Sunday in Segovia is kind of bustling. Apparently a few years ago it was dead, but now it's a weekend spot for people escaping Madrid and/or tourists visiting the Roman Aqueducts and the Alcázar! Quite a feee gars and everyone sells conchillo and poncho segoviano. I really like this sport :/m-) and I think the family that established this was extremely well respected in this community. We know Spain (especially Madrid) loves pork! And conchillo is a speciality. It's basically a young suckling/ pig (less than 15 days old) and roasted to crispy perfection! It's served with bread and some au jus. It's basically carnitas. At this spot you can dine in OR like us.. order at the front bar with the other zillion patrons, and try to find some book, cranny, ledge to lost up with your food. Yes - you may have to stand while you drink sangria and eat tapas ! I'd also like to recommend the paella for the sheer fact it was SOLD OUT by the time we got there. Other eats include : calamari (side is some mayo stuff ... ugh, what's with this love of mayo in Europe??)

    I had the Castellón soup and the suckling pig. The soup is like the spanish version of the French onion soup without the cheese. The pig was tender but I cannot say I was wowed by it.

    Appetizers we had the liver and bread that's on the house which was really good! We also had the cured salmon on bread which was amazing! Dessert was the cheesecake which was tasty, pretty, and overall just delicious. Ok, I will be the first to tell you that the cochinillo is good. It is a tender, fully roasted pig, which is very tasty. However, I don't believe it lives up to the hypee. Come here to experience this experience - it also isn't that expensive so why not! But it won't be the best thing you've eaten in Spain.

    Located in the heart of Segovias really bustling downtown area, its known for its suckling pig. Suckling pig is a big deal in this part of the country and if you come here you have to try it- nope you gotta put politics and food thoughts all away! I tried it - it's amazingly delish - but for my meal, I went for the pork medallions instead. Mostly because They weren't looking back at me while eating! We were a group of nearly 50 and we took over a large dining room. Service was outstanding anyway but truly noteworthy with ALL of us! Food was nicely prepared and presented. The medallions were superbly prepared and seasoned and the veggies were crazy fresh. Perfect portions too. The house red wine was bottomless and a nice accompaniment to my meal. I don't think anyone left hungry or disappointed.

    While the place is packed in a bit touristy, their famous suckling pig is definitely a reason to come and visit. Highly recommend making a reservation in advance through texting them on WhatsApp, which makes things a lot easier. We ordered the suckling pig for one instead of the entire tasting menu, knowing that we're probably not going to be able to finish it, and I have to say the dish for one is really fit for two so I'm glad we made that decision. Also got a regional dish, made of tripe, snout, and shank. Definitely an interesting dish, but I would not recommend this for the faint of heart. Much appreciate how their menu was marked clearly for allergens, and was able to accommodate for a gluten-free meal, including gluten-free baguette's. At the end, I was even able to get a very tasty gluten-free cake which they called the tart, and it was quite good. Look forward to coming back with more friends next time, preferably six of us, so we can get an entire pig to ourselves.

    Very delicious! If you plan to dine here, I would make a reservation because it tends to get quite busy. Segovia is famous for its roasted suckling pig, and the portions here are very large, juicy, and tasty. I would recommend taking a look at their "creative new dishes" section of the menu. If you plan to split the bill, let the waiters know ahead of time -- we did not and he had quite an attitude about it. Additionally, the waiters can be forgetful and the food takes a while to come out. However, it was a nice dining experience overall. I would definitely recommend dining here if you are in the area. For reference: a single person's portion is €27.00 and if you get an appetizer or a salad, the single portion is good enough to feed two.

You are served an ample portion of the ribcage. At this age many of the small ribs have not calcified, so they are tender to chew. Succulent and delicious. Tripa are also cooked low and slow so they melt on your tongue. Sauce is majestic. Our waiter was very cordial and we took his advice to close with the ponche, and we were very glad we did. A soufflée with a wisp of orange zest in the ice cream was the perfect closer. Bravo.

Duque is unique in its heritage, its ambience (indoor, white linen table cloths, nicer dresses wait staff), and the offering of the traditional suckling pig. We made reservations and due to a goof on my part we had to delay it a day. They accommodated without a problem and communicated through email. That said, we ate at around 2 pm and I don't think we would have had a problem if we just walked in without a reservation, but this probably depends on the tourist volume and season. My wife and I ordered the large beans and the suckling pig and salad. It was A LOT of food. We really enjoyed the large beans and the traditional cooking approach using a pork extras broth. The suckling pig lives up to its reputation. The meat was super tender and the skin was very crispy. My wife and I couldn't eat all of our portions, but what we did eat was fantastic. We also had the beer and it was quite good. We ended the meal with coffee, which was very good. We did not eat dessert but it looks like they had some good ones. We probably stayed there for about 90 minutes, which was a nice way to take a break from the beautiful but dominant sunshine. This was probably the most expensive place in Segovia to eat, but we thought it was a great experience and value. As a final thought, we didn't do a very good job as English speakers trying to communicate in Spanish, but with context clues and their willingness to talk a bit in English we managed.

Fortunately, I was able to stumble upon La Bodega del Barbero, who offered a much more affordable option for me. The restaurant was very much a hole-in-the-wall. During lunch hours, it wasn't completely packed with folks, and part of it may be due to it being so tucked away. It is a small restaurant with limited seating for large groups and a bar area, and is away from the bustling streets of Segovia. At 15€, I was able to try out a roasted pork leg with fries, a nice glass of refreshing Tinto de Verano, delicious potato pie, and some toasted bread. The pork took 20 minutes to prepare, and it came out absolutely juicy and delicious. I was taken back by how large the portion size was for the leg- perhaps they were accommodating for my American self. Overall, really enjoyed my lunch here and am glad I was able to drop in for a taste of Segovia.

That said, for me, it was one to try and not sure I would order again. The Turbot was excellent and was enjoyed even if it wasn't a filet. Ponche Segoviano for dessert was also recommended-looked good but no room. Service was okay. Again, they were quite busy so some delays. Overall, looks like the spot in town for Suckling pig/Roast Lamb and a few interesting creations.

On our recent visit, we were welcomed by Alberto Cándido, the 92-year-old son of the restaurant's renowned founder, who proudly showed us the medal he was given by King Juan Carlos I, which passed on the title of Mesonero Mayor of Castile after his father's death. We were seated at a window table in the beautiful Álvaro de Luna salon to enjoy delicious entrees of Grilled Sea Bass, Battered Hake in Salsa Verde, Pork Snout with Mushrooms and, of course, the famous Cochinillo Asado. Paired with a delicious house red wine and followed by slices of rich chocolate cake and apple pie, the meal was outstanding, as was the service. It was a privilege to eat in this amazing restaurant and to meet the scion of the family dynasty that maintains the culinary legacy of Mesón de Cándido to this day. A highly recommended experience if you're ever in Segovia -- and well worth the quick train ride if you're visiting Madrid.

The map from the tourist's office is not drawn to scale! We finally came across this place and were won over by the fixed lunch menu. For the first course, we could choose between a lentil salad and carbonara spaghetti. For the second course, we could choose between cured ham and stewed peppers or meatballs, both served with a side of fried potato slices (not quite like American french fries). For dessert, we could choose among flan, chocolate cake with cream, cinnamon custard, and rice pudding. For drinks, we could choose a bottle of water of a bottle of wine! All of this for €10, tax included! My mom and I were incredibly grateful that our waitress knew a decent amount of English (I had whipped out my iPhone to Google translate the menu). We both ordered the lentil salad, which was tastier than both of us had expected. My mom ordered the sliced ham and I ordered the meatballs, both of which were saltier (prompting us to drink our fancy glass bottle of water) than expected. The meatballs were tastier than the ham in my opinion, but the stewed green peppers that came with my mom's dish were the highlights of the meal! For dessert, I chose the rice pudding while my mom chose the cinnamon custard. Hers was better than mine since it was not as sweet and the flavor wasn't as overpowering, but I wished I had ordered the flan and she wished she had ordered the chocolate cream cake hahaha!
