I absolutely loved the food of this restaurant. If purely judged on the food I would give this place a five star without any hesitation. However, the reason for my low star review is that there were a lot of flies in the restaurant. They totally ruined my dinning experience, and for an indoor restaurant that's just not sanitary and unacceptable... I had flies diving into my soup and my pudding...how the heck can I eat them after... Pest control is 100% needed.

Amazing typical lunch for Segovia. The white bean soup was awesome. Actually everything was amazing

Segovia is a much smaller city with rich history. We had lunch at this restaurant per recommendation from our tour guide. We had cochinillo (roasted piglet) to share. It is the local dish since they raise a lot of pigs in the area. We also had the Judias soup. It is made from the local beans which resemble Lima beans but slightly bigger. It is made with local sausage in a creamy broth. We also had grilled octopus. For dessert, we had the Ponche which is made with marzapan, powdered sugar and flambéed. We sat outside on the patio overlooking the city and the mountains nearby. The dishes are simple and make sense since the city depends on its agriculture. I definitely recommend these dishes to help you understand some local history while traveling in Spain. As always, visit and form your own opinion.

A super local experience, great servers, beautiful view and restaurant since 1939, food was just delicious, sopa de mariscos, merluza a la vasca, y el cochinillo simplemente perfecto....highly recommended prices are right..

Came to this restaurant due to a recommendation by local. Supposedly this restaurant gives you the best overall deal for suckling pig. You get white beans soup, suckling pig, dessert, wine and bread for around 30 euros. I think my parents said they paid the same amount for just the suckling pig at a different place when they visit Spain last year. The food is amazing! My favorite is the white beans soup. The beans were huge and bursting with flavors. The suckling pig had a crusty skin and tender meat. It was really filling so I was quite full by the time dessert come. They gave us an entire bottle wine for 3 people. The waiters were kind and we were happy with the service. When you do outdoor seating, you get a good view of the city.

It's one of the most famous restaurants in Segovia with the specialty of Cochinillo Asado. As we visited Segovia the restaurant was in the major street that we passed back and forth to exit and take the tour bus that took us to this ancient and beautiful city. It was approaching 1:00pm and our luck that the restaurant was open for lunch as many others were closed until 2:00pm The Cochinillo of Segovia is unique in flavor. It tasted better than the one in Madrid, at least I thought so. It's Roasted with Potatoes, but the juices in this dish were abundant and very tasty. A big chunk of a round loaf of bread was served with our meal. Everyone got into the dunking the bread into the juices of the roast. Gambas Soup was a rich cream almost like a bisque. The Castilian Soup-Garlicky, Bread, Ham, Egg. Another dish to dunk big chunks of Bread. Salmon a la Plancha( Grilled) was another dish we tried. Desserts: Natillas Monjiles con Florón is Custards with a Cookie on top y Tarta Helada ( Cream Cake)

Absolutely beautiful Spanish restaurant, with real linen table clothes and a wonderful view. Service was very friendly and efficient considering the language barrier. The pig suckling was delicious with crispy skin (potatoes were ok) and oxtail was delicious! Did not find this place very touristy at all! Would return if I lived nearby.

Me and my family left Segovia very dissatisfied because of this place. This restaurant is a tourist trap. I'm starting to question the positive reviews it's gotten. There is no way other people's experience have been much different than ours. At 35 Euros for a soup, 1/4 cochinillo, sangría and desert this is NOT cheap in Spain by any means. You can find the same combinations in Madrid for half that price. We thought we were paying for a top culinary experience. It was not! The cochinillo barely had any meat. Nothing. It was only skin, head and bones. No meat. Avoid this restaurant. Find something else as far from the center as you can. And to the people of Segovia...shame on you for allowing this type of scam in your otherwise beautiful city.

When I go back to Segovia this will be my first stop. I found their food to be superior in taste, quality and uniqueness of preparation to any other restaurant in the area. Given that plus really great friendly, helpful and polite service, I'm giving it Five Stars. I opted to have the whole leg of duck which came perfectly done, crispy skin smothered with a rich full bodied brown sauce; a true culinary delight.

This place was definitely a tourist trap and avoid. It is close to the aqueduct of segovia. The decor looks nice and servers were friendly. Items on menu if you order a la carte seem a little pricey than other restaurants i have been to in spain. We decided to go with the menu del dia. The pork liver foie gras was ok but salad was not good. When i ate more of the salad then i realized there was a dead fly on the egg and i pointed out to my server she just took it away without apologizing or anything. She brought out a new salad but at that point i was a little disgusted and i just told her to take just take it away don't even put it down. Next up my wife had the duck leg confit and i had the salmon. The duck leg was really salty and the salmon was not a filet so there were a lot of bones. Was really disappointed in this restaurant.

Staff were gracious and welcoming to two tourists. Cochinillo was sublime. Whole suckling pig is roasted so the skin is crisp on the surfaces, but moist and flavorful next to the meat. You are served an ample portion of the ribcage. At this age many of the small ribs have not calcified, so they are tender to chew. Succulent and delicious. Tripa are also cooked low and slow so they melt on your tongue. Sauce is majestic. Our waiter was very cordial and we took his advice to close with the ponche, and we were very glad we did. A soufflée with a wisp of orange zest in the ice cream was the perfect closer. Bravo.

Duque is unique in its heritage, its ambience (indoor, white linen table cloths, nicer dresses wait staff), and the offering of the traditional suckling pig. We made reservations and due to a goof on my part we had to delay it a day. They accommodated without a problem and communicated through email. That said, we ate at around 2 pm and I don't think we would have had a problem if we just walked in without a reservation, but this probably depends on the tourist volume and season. My wife and I ordered the large beans and the suckling pig and salad. It was A LOT of food. We really enjoyed the large beans and the traditional cooking approach using a pork extras broth. The suckling pig lives up to its reputation. The meat was super tender and the skin was very crispy. My wife and I couldn't eat all of our portions, but what we did eat was fantastic. We also had the beer and it was quite good. We ended the meal with coffee, which was very good. We did not eat dessert but it looks like they had some good ones. We probably stayed there for about 90 minutes, which was a nice way to take a break from the beautiful but dominant sunshine. This was probably the most expensive place in Segovia to eat, but we thought it was a great experience and value. As a final thought, we didn't do a very good job as English speakers trying to communicate in Spanish, but with context clues and their willingness to talk a bit in English we managed.

Fortunately, I was able to stumble upon La Bodega del Barbero, who offered a much more affordable option for me. The restaurant was very much a hole-in-the-wall. During lunch hours, it wasn't completely packed with folks, and part of it may be due to it being so tucked away. It is a small restaurant with limited seating for large groups and a bar area, and is away from the bustling streets of Segovia. At 15€, I was able to try out a roasted pork leg with fries, a nice glass of refreshing Tinto de Verano, delicious potato pie, and some toasted bread. The pork took 20 minutes to prepare, and it came out absolutely juicy and delicious. I was taken back by how large the portion size was for the leg- perhaps they were accommodating for my American self. Overall, really enjoyed my lunch here and am glad I was able to drop in for a taste of Segovia.

On our recent visit, we were welcomed by Alberto Cándido, the 92-year-old son of the restaurant's renowned founder, who proudly showed us the medal he was given by King Juan Carlos I, which passed on the title of Mesonero Mayor of Castile after his father's death. We were seated at a window table in the beautiful Álvaro de Luna salon to enjoy delicious entrees of Grilled Sea Bass, Battered Hake in Salsa Verde, Pork Snout with Mushrooms and, of course, the famous Cochinillo Asado. The map from the tourist's office is not drawn to scale! We finally came across this place and were won over by the fixed lunch menu. For the first course, we could choose between a lentil salad and carbonara spaghetti. For the second course, we could choose between cured ham and stewed peppers or meatballs, both served with a side of fried potato slices (not quite like American french fries). For dessert, we could choose among flan, chocolate cake with cream, cinnamon custard, and rice pudding. For drinks, we could choose a bottle of water of a bottle of wine! All of this for €10, tax included! My mom and I were incredibly grateful that our waitress knew a decent amount of English (I had whipped out my iPhone to Google translate the menu). We both ordered the lentil salad, which was tastier than both of us had expected. My mom ordered the sliced ham and I ordered the meatballs, both of which were saltier (prompting us to drink our fancy glass bottle of water) than expected. The meatballs were tastier than the ham in my opinion, but the stewed green peppers that came with my mom's dish were the highlights of the meal! For dessert, I chose the rice pudding while my mom chose the cinnamon custard. Hers was better than mine since it was not as sweet and the flavor wasn't as overpowering, but I wished I had ordered the flan and she wished she had ordered the chocolate cream cake hahaha! All in all, a charming place with good food at a merciful price!
